On-field leadership is the glaring one. Ruthlessness. Inability to produce champions. Near enough is good enough mentality. These are things we need to address sooner rather than later or we're going to have another group of talented kids come through who don't smash through the glass ceiling.

 Surely, all in the goodness of time. We are but only in a developmental stage and as such apparently all accountability is off. Those pesky nasty media people aere always on our backs with frivolous expectations.

Thats as close to announcing sarcasm as i can for the cataract brigade.

I can only suggest to Brad that there are many supporters who along with elements of that same said media are tiring of this notion that were in some perpetual period of excuse.

I agree that there are too many excuses for this team, but I would say that the majority of articles about the Demons are not about our 'too easily satisfied' culture or our pathetic on-field leadership, but about you-know-who, and wether Connols and Schwab and Bailey are having Dawson's Creek style tiffs with each other.

So the journos have held a torch this year, but on the right issues?

I would say no.

Agree on this. I have no qualms with addressing on-field leadership, ruthlessness, mentality. And I've stated as much in the threads that address these aspects.

I thought you may have been alluding to other issues such as gambling, binge drinking - where I think the club is past that and are always addressing these temptations at an early age with courses etc.

addressing on-field leadership, ruthlessness, mentality.

Shame we dont discuss off-field "leadership, ruthlessness, mentality." a tad more around here. B) & look at ourselves first.

The mirror might just crack.

I think both Melbourne and Richmond supporters have had enough excuses about the team performing poorly. I will always support this team, like I have during this dreadful patch over the last few years. I have been dissapointed by a few backwards steps this year, but there have been some genuinely positive signs and we are starting to see the product of a list turnover in baby steps. Still need to weed out a few passengers before years end. I said it about a month ago, 2012 is our big year. Must make finals and must improve considerably on field.

I will not accept another "development year", even though I realise that a team is constantly developing to some degree. Our development needs to be about becoming better than the other sides, not trying to just be somewhat competetive against them.

Mate we dont have any "passengers" out on the field at this club the boys are busting their nuts out there. If you & others cant see that ... well what can I say.

The only passengers in this club wont listen to the facts, no they want to listen to the media & make them up.

So they and the media get it right at times ... wow! Good on them. But any body can make a 50/50 call then after the event ... say oh I was just being realistic, told you so.

It's statements like these that irk me. Be more accountable. Give an example, single someone out and back it up.

Throwing a hand grinade whilst running away, hoping you might nail several posters/club officials/players (or whatever-whoever you're referring to) without naming them is weak IMO.

totally agree. Another point worth mentioning is that alot of other teams in the comp are also in development mode (Richmond, Port, Lions, Suns, Crows, North, even the swans, bombers and dockers have tehir fair sjhare of youngsters). IMO it gets to the point where taht "excuse" doest wash anymore, becasue apart from a few power houses its a pretty level playing field. You'd hope with our crop of touted draft picks that we develop into one of the stronger etams sooner rather than later?

I sometimes wonder if the notion of "development" is but the comfy cushioned sofa upon which to sit when your arse has been spanked and kicked fron here to there as a result of inadequate performance.

I'll pay my respects in the sense that they have a crack, but there are certainly passengers in terms of players that don't belong on the train to premiership success. Be it too old, not good enough (or both), but we will see a continued turn over until we have the right list.

Interesting analogy:

The premiership winning train ought to be first class, no 2nds or Economy.(efforts)

I'm not here to start a flaming war with this individual and that. But High Tower just look around you .... see how people refer to our football club, our football department, our players.

At every opportunity they belittle, call them names, & want them gone without a second thought. WHY .... well that's up to them.

Yet when people want to continue to defend them ... they are "ranting" they are not being "realistic" ... people dont want to hear it because they wont face the facts. Our biggest problem is us ... actions speak louder than words, we do it to ourselves as a weekly event. Its 2011 you have to earn your stripes in the modern era of AFL football, you get nothing for free irrespective of your past.

IMHO this forum should and could be such a positive force for the Melbourne Football club ... unfortunately it nothing more than a hunting ground for the media to feed the "herd".

Our football club is busting its balls to move forward but it continually fights the mentality of the past. Our "history" stands for nothing in the wider AFL community, we are in a national game, we have to learn how to stand on our own 2 feet.

Sorry I dont want to have a crack & individuals ... its not my style, but occasionally I have no choice. Hope that explains my positions and "irks" you less. I think Demonland is a fantastic site & could be even better.

Some see a Glass Half Full...Some see it half empty.. In reality there is only a glass..and some water. The rest is perspective. Perspectives lead to opinions and a forum offers them a voice.

The demeanor of discussions here in many ways only reflects the success or woes of the club. There would be very little dissent if we were travelling well.

No problems football is a cruel game, I accept that, but until the player is no longer in the red & the blue sometimes you can never truly gauge who should or shouldn't be on the train ... IMHO my "job" is too support them 110% ... no excuses.

However, thats why I put my faith in our recruiting department, thats their job & a very fine job the do, taking into account we have 17 competitors out there all fighting for their own agenda. The rules are their to give all a fighting chance.

Ultimately we can only have 1 premier per year ... I'm a patient man. Our path is clear, the only thing that can de-rail our train is us.

Yes & No. If you are not growing you are dying.

For me the clubs "success" position is irrelevant, I just want to see us all give 100%.

No passengers.

There is arguing and debating your point by supporting it with facts, then there is flaming.

I know what you're saying, hence my point of view in the "Green on the Couch" thread. Perfect example. An interview which led to a thread of venting on our club and Brad himself. Read on in the second half of the thread and you get a clearer picture.

Fair enough. I just find if you have an issue, replying to their posts is more accountable and direct than posting something that could be interpreted as having a go at a whole range of posters that some of which may not be considered your true target.

I nearly rest my case your honour ... these are not MFC supporters ... they are keyboard heroes that have self interest at heart. They could cost us dearly in the end, might make themselves feel good but will it be good for the MFC ?

Seriously, they would never have the balls to come from out behind their computer and say half the things they do to the players faces, the football department & the club they pretend to support.

I have posted similar elsewhere, in terms of the nature of the train.

Well from the day youre born youre actually heading towards the inevitable death. Its the journey and way its taken that defines us all.

You can grow and die at the same time !!

We all want 100%... but it shouldnt require our desire it ought to be within players of this level already.

Why is success irrelevant ?? Its the goal of growing surely ?

No doubt about it the second part of the thread is encouraging in some parts.

Yip point taken. Just dont like to get into someone at times who has good intentions, you just tend to end up with ... you said this I want to nail you now. I'm not here to nail any specific person, I honestly do believe deep down their is some good inside. However, we live in the modern era of social media. We no longer live in a pub culture ... said today gone tomorrow.

lol... How do wwe cost the club..??

Use of a keyboard.. Is that not what you do ??

Id happily talk to anyone. Face to face..toe to toe.

This sort of talk is troll like honestly. Empty dares , redundant rhetoric.

The players have already got it ... you just cant see it.

IMHO success is not automatic function of growing. If you give a 100% and no success follows I can accept that. But when you look for others to blame ... the consequences sit fair and square on your shoulders.

Success is way more complex than that ... but disunity is death.

Arrogance is a slow death. Ignorance is a slow death. Lazyness is a slow death.

HO007, theres a big difference between supporting a football club, and taking it to a degree where you wont say a negative thing or challenge any aspect of the orginisation! (which is wherre you've ended up)

I pay my membership every year, i buy a few of those $200 scratch and win cards each year, i contributed to debt demolition, i go to games when they play in WA (or im in VIC), and i purchase merchandise too. I'm happy with the level of support that i show the club.

I also have no problems with anyone who challenges or even criticises elements of the club, especially on a supporters forum where you know its more out of frustration than anything, if they back it up. After all if people dont question the status quo things will never change (for the good or bad).
