I remember last pre season being a time of great change and hope. A new coach was being talked up as the next super coach. A high profile (the highest at the time) player defecting from the Lions and Dockers to come to the promised land. New resources being pumped into the club so that player development was assured. Fantastic facilities being better than previous premiers/grand finalist. A list of potentialled high draft picks. Previous coaches lamenting opportunities saying finals football was a given. A club profit used on front ending contracts. One of the highest sponsorship in the league

And...... all i got was, do i need to re live this year. its too depresing to reflect

You are not Robinson Crusoe mate

There are lot feeling exactly the same way

Doesnt bode well for the predicted massive changes predicted this pre season. Still i will get excited if the changes are made. Pre season is every Demons fan season given the recent results over autumn ans winter

And in pre season we don't lose too many games.

Easily the best time of the year for a dees supporter.

Between September and February we get new coaches, new facilities, new draftees all of whom are going to be world beaters and we cannot believe they slipped through to us. No one gets a serious injury and all last years injured are recovering well from their surgery and training the house down.

And as you suggest Redleg we are yet to lose a game.

Certainly the best time of the football year for me

Iconic Princess running at Geelong 3.15. May need the run. Coming back from injury. We will see. Ridden by, wait for it, Danny Nikolic.

Sunset Prince first start in the first at Tatura saturday.

How did Danny go?

He didn't fall off. She will be better for the run.

If we could expand the title of the thread to include no tanking we'd effectively hit two birds with one stone. That of AFL and Racing.

Pretty soon all would be left for discussion would be bananas.

Unless you are prepared to sign a stat dec i suggest you lay off the bananas

A Freo win today and loss to North next week could see them tied with the Blues going into the last round. If the Blues have a big win next week against GC, it might come down to us losing by a big margin to Freo in Perth as to whether the Blues make the 8. I would be praying for a Saints win over the Blues and if that didn't happen I would be happy to see us have a big loss to Freo, if it kept the Blues out. Freo still need to get the job done today of course. Could be an interesting weekend in the final round.

Thought you said we couldn't win the last two.

The only drawback there is that Carlton play after us - they'll know what they need to do. Still think Saints will beat them anyway.

I even have a sneaky feeling about Freo next weekend.

Problem is that Saints are considering putting Reiwoldt out for the year. That is a sign to the team that they have conceded and then the hunger goes for the players. Don't think they could beat Blues in that situation. Also Blues % will be so much higher than Freo next week after they smash GC. Only hope seems to be Freo beating North and then us.

I think North played a mini grand final last night and are due for a bit of a lull (Adelaide last night perhaps?) and Freo haven't been too bad in Melbourne this year.

I wouldn't put it past them. We'll have a clearer picture next Sunday night, but you're right - it'll likely come down to Freo needing to drub us to make it. Which is ok because they will.

Thought you said we couldn't win the last two.

Just a small amount of stirring Redleg.

I have been telling you for weeks we had third last locked in and nothing I have seen in the past month suggests otherwise.

Based on yesterdays performance I reckon the last two games will be 10 goal losses.

Our late President says we didn't tank and that no instruction to tank was ever given, but that rather we took advantage of a system, that he didn't agree with anyway. His captain concurs and said the MFC didn't tank while he was there, which was during the relevant period. We have heard another player PJ, say that we didn't tank. Our coach has previously said that he coached to assist the development of the club and in the interests of the club. He never said we tanked. The club was investigated then and cleared. Brock McLean never said we tanked but rather experimented. The AFL don't believe tanking exists. Surely this will end positively for us soon.

You would think so

However the way 2012 has played out I will be concerned until the result is known.

At least the media is on about Essendon and Footscray this week.

Is Melbourne FC bashing, waning as an exciting topic?

Is Melbourne FC bashing, waning as an exciting topic?

Well at least there is a bit more variety.

The best news from next weekend will be when WCE beat the Pies .

The knives will really be out then for Dawes and Cloke.

5 goals to Darling will probably get a fair airing as well!

Spoke to Rory Taggert last night. I just like this kid and have a real good feeling about him. He is tough, quick and an elite kick. Grimes agreed that he could be a really good player. Grimes is also a rap for Tynan. We might have grabbed a couple of good kids.

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
