You do know that the gods love to punish Demons?

Less punishment watching the game on tv this week.

My old man will get a call tomorrow, he supports Saints as he played with Eric "the tank" at Dromana.

i defied his best attempts to get me following the saints but he always said I was a bloody demon.

I fill you pain, as my old man was a Shockers member and never come to terms with me supporting an eastern states team. It did not help when I would ring him after we beat the Shockers and sing our team song. For some strange reason he stopped taking my calls after his team lost to us. Well someone has to support the lesser teams and I do miss the old man.

My brother in law, who is a Saints fan as well, did called to say that we are going down this week. The Saints are the Demons nature enemies so let the blood bath begin! Of course the Saints should be doing all the bleeding.

Update on generational supporting.

My Dad 95 this year has lost his passion for supporting the Saints.

It may be he has been enjoying lving with my sister and brother in law in Queensland for too long.

BiL is a great bloke but is a lifelong Pies follower my sister professes a liking for the Hawks. Dad would not like to cause any offence and is having enough difficulty keeping up with the nags he follows. With constantly following weather reports to schedule his swimming program and the opportunities the Queensland perfect weather allow thers just too much stimulation for him to be interested any more.

So I'm reassured as I hit my 70s that perhaps there's more to life than worrying if the dees forward structure is ok or if the mids need greater flexibility or even if Goody is the right guy.

While I can wile away hours trawling the many enjoyable, thoughtful and interesting threads in this site. I do miss the usual wit and philosophical insights which used to explode in this thread.

So  I can now understand given the old mans reaction that perhaps as we get older our ability to become emotional about anything let alone the fortunes of the demons will recede into meaningless while the price fluctuations of bananas can become all consuming.

i appreciate that such obsessions restrict contact and the general byplay that ha occurred for many years within this thread.

i am loathe to call time but the general paucity of aforementioned wit and philosophical discussion is leading to that conclusion.

dieter, it sound like your Dad is doing very well for someone of that age. I was at  a family funeral last week (a cousin of my mother's) for someone of that age, and it was hard to feel cheated on behalf of someone who had lived so long. Age doesn't always bring perspective, but it seems to me that this football thing has always been crazy, and that we enjoy it all the more so because of that. But there do come times when the silliness and froth of it all are laid bare, and it all just seem too trivial for words.

Best wishes to you and your family,.

I know how you feel dpositive. I am not far behind you.

Having watched matches to date plus AFLW I was looking forward to watching Dees prime time only to discover its live on NSW only.

And guess what

here in Murmungee I get My to cover from Shepparton.

My nearest neighbour across the paddock gets us coverage from Albury.

Hes a Collngwood supporter so no joy.

it would cost me too many beers to watch the whole game with him

Derwyane is unlistenable. Every action, no matter how ordinary or basic, is described using a superlative.

Alright to get back on track, how about the following. With the Dees 3-0 for the first time in yonks, if the Dees knock off Geelong to make it 4-0, we have a competition on this thread to find the best image with 4 bananas in it. If the unthinkable happens and the Dees lose, we have a competition on this thread to find the best image on the theme of "Hells Bells". If it is a draw, Redleg gets to make the call about what happens.

What say you all?

We will be lucky to be vaccinated by finals time.

We are always careful to sanitise and social distance. Masks when too close to unfamiliar people.

its all a debacle, just as likely to get hit by a bus as die from Covid.

i want front line workers and incoming tourists etc from overseas to be inoculated, tested and quarantined if required.

Me too but I reckon you will get the vaccine by June. I am hanging loose till then. I just stay away from crowds. Have no confidence on the Vic government controlling things when Aussies start returning from OS.

Its the most remarkable thing that Vic community has been so compliant with instructions, and on my trip to the footy round  one everyone was cautious. Still not really congested . Stay away from public transport and sit near friends you know are symptom free.

i think the vaccine doesn't stop the spread just limits the damage.

keep fit and be less vulnerable. I fear what might happen when winter hits an people are more vulnerable to cold and flue.

Getting my normal flu injection next week. Re  covid injections our clinic told us last week they have no idea when they will receive the vaccine or how much. A bloody shambles! Re the first game at 50% capacity and only 23k there you can spread out,  at 75+ that will be a lot harder. Good luck l will look for you in the crowd!!!!!!

Good news for one of my favourites.

"MELBOURNE rookie and surprise free agent James Jordon is poised to clinch a new deal with the Demons just four months after being delisted by the club. "

James Jordon (JJ), don’t remember him, did ever play a game?

4 to this point.

I see we have a New President!

But it should have been Uncle Bitters in the President role as his diplomacy skills would have us at number one AFL club in no time.
