    I'm also going to Launceston to try and get away from the Food channel. I've been watching it a lot ....all night.....I'm addicted...... and it makes me want to eat all the time.

    I'm turning into a lard person. I think we should start a thread here ......Ban the Food Channel.

    I will certainly be bringing up the Food Channel on every thread from now on.

    I can't for the life of me understand the weirdos on this site who want to stick to the thread topic.

    I mean I've been a paid up Melbourne member continuously since 1963 and find the club and stuff interesting ................but .......

    this Food Channel issue.........people here need to review their priorities.

    Besides there are some fat players or possibly becoming fat players, who obviously need our help. Like Chunk and Pedo.

    Special if you are into wine the Tamar Vally has some excellent wineries up either side, including some Straya's best sparkling and pinots.  Also, if you are into nature, Launie isn't far from world heritage sites.

    The famous founder of our city formed a long line of men with guns there and they marched towards the ocean, shooting men,women and children wherever they stood.

    Hard to find any tourist markers pointing this out.

    Interested in your sources for this post Biff. I am currently reading about early contact from 1788 onward and the writings of the early explorers observations of the locals in their natural environment.

    Yes Biff TV...it's awful here. The best tv in the world is in Italy. They have stacks of great shows...like game shows and stuff, with funny presenters and lots of girls. If only we could get Silvio Berlisconi to take over the ABC here I would be rapt.

    Also worth researching Cape Grim on the west coast for the same reason.

    Yes the Black Line or the Black War.

    Graziers were reporting raids upon properties and Aboriginal tribes sought retribution for their women who had been stolen or " purchased".

    Batman controlled the line from Launceston to the ocean with the intention of driving any survivors out to Flinders Island to the N/E

    It was here that Batman grew his ruthless reputation and gained support as a selector in the new colony of Victiria.

    Touchingly, he took care of a young Aboriginal boy who's parent he had shot. He was all heart.

    I notice Biffen that you are very generous with my assets!

    I have previously refused Special any access to the Merc on the basis of his poverty. Now I'll grant you he seems a decent enough chap for one of that ilk but his need to stowaway on the "Princess" suggests little change in his state of penury.

    Apparently the Summer Solstice will do that. The body painting is supposed to be quite complex  but I believe the good pagans of Hopping Dicks simply get a few spray cans of Dulux from the local Bunnings and go at it furiously so that they can get straight into the naked dancing.

    It is rumoured that the good Doctor's alchemic skills provides "secret herbs and spices" which makes the barbequed possum something special when washed down with a cask of Aldi red.

    Still haven't heard from the good doc and he doesn't appear to handing out his usual indiscriminate thrashings.

    Is it possible the doc cavorted a little too enthusiastically during the abovementioned rites of summer and did himself a mischief?

Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack.     • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

      Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

    • REPORT: West Coast

      On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
