Demons at Etihad

Featured Replies

Yeah I hate the joint too, can't quite put my finger on why, if I had to guess I just get a very cold and unnatural feeling about the place.

Still I go, and so should every man, woman and child who goes for the dees and can get to the ground. It's not as enjoyable as the MCG but very few venues are.

Be there and scream your guts out for the boys!

So either eat before you go in or grab some Subway or a Souva at half time. If the team is playing in Melbourne you support them wherever they play. When I was younger I went to the Western Oval, Princes Park, Vic Park, Windy Hill, Moorabbin, Waverley and anywhere else we may have played since the late 80's because I support the team. Unless you are working, have to attend a birthday or any other commitments, are a student or pensioner with no funds and your membership doesn't get you in or you have some other legitimate excuse, not just "I don't like the ground" then you should be there and if you are not then it is nothing short of pathetic. As I said earlier the supporters on this forum I would assume are some of the more dedicated and even they refuse to travel 10 minutes down the road to watch the team I hate to think what the fairweather supporters are thinking. No wonder we are a laughing stock who get no respect from other teams or the AFL. No wonder we struggle to get 20K to matches against interstate teams.

I went to all the suburban grounds up until the AFL closed them, and that included Waverley.

Sorry, but i just cannot stomach Etihad..The Ground is too small, the seats way to cramped...and the food is over priced to obviously pay the faceless shareholders.

I most certainly support the MFC.

I am working this friday night, so shall watch the 2nd half from my local. The week after the bye, i shall hit the Bentleigh club...Might see you there.

But Etihad can get stuffed.

The only way you could get Melbourne supporters to Etihad would be to in some way transform it from a [censored] stadium into a good one.

Do that and the Dees supporters will turn up in droves.

No but seriously, why do we have a Melbourne home game against the Weagles there?

When you go to the footy do you go for comfort? do you go for the gourmet dining involved?

I just don't understand this mentality. It's a damn ground. Yes, it's a hell hole and I hate it, but why would you not go to support the players if you could?

All excuses relating to the ground, the location, the food, the prices, are [censored].

Go and support the players and the club. They did not choose to play there, but they still have to rock up and put up with it. We as supporters should be no different.

We are privileged to have the ability to go watch our team play almost every week (and ask any interstate supporter how envious they feel of us Melbourne residents!). Taking it for granted and not turning up is the quickest way to get us into a mess again off the field.

I want to go on Friday and listen to the crowd roar louder for us than they do for the Dogs. It's possible and it will help us get over the line. Make no mistake about that.

I have a disability...and Etihad is just not a friendly place...The MCG is.

If you have legitimate reasons for not turning up, that's a totally different story.

If you're not gonna go because you don't like Etihad then it's just a stupid reason.

The above post was more a general comment to anyone who came into this thread to whinge about Etihad and not going on Friday to support our players in their quest for a top 8 spot, because they think the stadium is shite and doesn't meet their required standards

I have been to Etihad a number of times, don't worry.

It is just a terribly designed, cheap stadium...as i said i would rather drop $50 into the MFC office than go to support Collo's ground....Having the disability just makes the decision easier... B)

i'm not a big fan of Etihad but because my dee's are playing ill be there as i am every other weekend

at the end of the day if the dees fans want to go they'll go even if its away from the g!

haha Cant believe all the hate about a decent footy ground, yes its no MCG but you've all obviously never been to the hell hole formally known as Subiaco Oval?!!

The only negative think i could say about Ethihad as someone who doesnt get the pleasure of going to the G every couple of weeks is that when the roof is shut and theres only a small crowd in, the crowd' scheers sound like those from a primary school swimming carnival.

Im not going because they sell mid strength beer during night games....

:P

Should do what i did with my mates last week, swipe your credit card to pay for beers, machine says "declined". They don't look cause its so busy, and you walk away with a tray of beer. I don't mind mid-strength when its free.

Wharf Hotel in the city. The Publican is a mad MFC supporter. I think some of the players who were injured were there when we last played at "Jihad" (I love that) Stadium.

Nothing comes close to the ROYAL! haha

WYL, what day is the Port game on? Might take you up on the drinks at the Bentleigh if it's a Sunday

I think it might be a sunday...will check the fixture.

Always good to meet a few 'Landers while a game is on..

Pay for me and I'll go. :)

I usually go to most away games in Melb, even to that dump of a place.

Haha, yeah I think you're right about the Hawthorn make up game. Costs thirty to get up to level 3. [censored] I know, but it's not totally out of the ball park. Just don't buy any food there or pay for parking.

Etihad is too expensive, but I always go. I shall be there again on Friday night.

Been there. It doesn't compare to the hole that is Shell Stadium.

I,ve bought a membership knowing full well that I can't get to many games as I work weekends. However, I shall be driving the 200 kms there and back and will get home around midnight, then get up for an early start next day.

Personally, I enjoy Etihad stadium and think it's a great ground to watch the action reasonably close up. Also, as I've saved a bit on petrol not going to the G this year, I'll treat myself and park underneath for the convenience.

So anyone who is sitting on the fence about turning up or not- get off your bloody arses and support your team!

So does the MCG.

Wish we still had Waverley!!!!! B)

I hope I'm not being insensitive here, but if having a disability makes Etihad unfriendly for you, how would Waverly be considered any better?

Etihad is a cold hole, but it's fully equipped to cater to people with disabilities. (unless you have vertigo and can't afford to sit on level 1)

It is an oval with four big sticks at either end. Pretty much the same as any other ground. Get over "I hate it, I'm not going". No wonder people think Dees supporters are soft...

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
