Listening to the game live overseas

Apologies for starting a thread on this, but some guidance would be really appreciated.

I am currently in Buzios in Brazil and would like to listen to the game live on the net (2am over here) tomorrow. I have an iPad and fairly sketchy internet access.

Last week I was in Buenos Aires and spent the night (again 2am start) wrestling with this bloody iPad trying to log into either SEN or Triple M to listen to the game live. I was nearly in tears that I couldn't listen to it, as regular score updates revealed that I was missing a one in ten year Demon rout. My wife was nearly in tears too, because I spent the entire swearing my guts out.

The problem I faced seemed to be that AFL.com wouldn't allow me to access the commentary because I'm not an international user (despite the fact that I subscribe to Foxtel and bigpond.com) at home. I also encountered significant problems with trying to stream radio to an iPad - it seems if I had a laptop I might have been okay on, say, ABC.

Have any of you listened to a game on an iPad from overseas? If so, how did you do it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Go Demons!

My understanding is that iPads are tricky for streaming media. Have you tried accessing the audio feed through the AFL gameday site/page?

On the other hand, you could also try Liveafl.tv - it's the AFL's live video stream for overseas fans. In theory, the site should pick up your (international) IP, and authorise access. You have to pay, but a few euros or drachmas or whatever to watch our beloved Dees is always well worth it, and you can take a short-term subscription if necessary.

Good luck.

Yeah, if you don't mind paying $15 for a monthly subscription, liveafl.tv might be a good option. Can watch every game live, plus they put all the replays up later which means you can also watch the Adelaide game if you want.

I'm living in Prague at the moment (getting up at 6am tomorrow to watch the North game!) and it's been a god-send.

Thanks for the tips fellas. For some reason, afl live tv "is not available in my location". It wasn't in BA either.

I think the streaming problem I'm having is due to the fact that iPads don't support Flash. Genius thinking bringing the iPad over a laptop on this trip!

The best radio apps for iPhone and iPad IMO are Wunderadio and TuneIn radio. Look them up up the applications app, they are easy to download and use.

The trouble is That football is not broadcast on the stations themselves live through Internet radio owing to copyright restrictions, but the broadcasts are available through the AFL site at the AFL's closing. I listen through that site while I am overseas. Alternatively, you sometimes can get live broadcasts through Radio Australia, and get live telecasts through Australian Television which is on many cable television services offshore. Alternatively, there are various transcribed services which has a written narrative plus field map so you can at least follow a live score.

If you are not sure, the local Australian embassy usually has the information on this as most of them also listen in/ watch.

Good luck - I know how frustrating it can be.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
