Do you always answer a question with a question ?

I asked a change in what ??

People on Boards don't make public what there thinking for the future. unfortunately.

You stated there has "been a change since Monday's board meeting"....how on earth would you know of a change - even if there were one ?

You're assuming.

Whether this is whats was meant or alluded to I do sense the board will be bringing forward many time lines. There will be a somewhat greater sense of urgency applying now. The board wont succumb to panic but it will know that whatever plans or contingencies exist to remedy failure have just been ramped up. Whatever was in place that might have been looked at 'later', it will now happen 'sooner'.

In that sense I think it a reasonable assumption to think things have changed.

That's your opinion and certainly not nine...Before thursday was no more than a rumble. But yes i was right about the Article in the Australian with our CEO's words, thanks for noticing that at least.

You werent right just misinterpreted it as usual.

Caroline Wilson, a front line journalist wrote the following pieces in the Age in the lead up to the WCE games.

If you can use Google, then you can access Hun and other media article on the Bailey situation.

CLearly the disposition of Bailey was much more than a rumbling prior to the WCE. There is no doubt that the WCE loss intensified the scrutiny on a coach with his contract due. You entitled to your opinion but when it clearly flies in the face of the facts it becomes a bit of a fantasy. And you claim to work in the media?

I'm with WYL.

The media are simply vultures; they can smell a carcus a mile off and will feed off it given half a chance. The MFC is giving them plenty of chance.

Well done. Your last sentence is exactly what I am saying and the loss on Thursday only heightened the existing media attention. And you're with WYL??

You are amazing RR, yes i read the articles, it was actually i who posted one of them on here at the time, which you hassled me about (i expect nothing less!!)

But if you are telling me that i was wrong to feel "rumblings" at that stage, then you are wrong.

The Supporters have certainly fast tracked the Media since last Thursday, no doubt. That does not include the inner sanctum of the club.

And yes i do work in the Media...25 Years at ABC Ripponlea so far, drop in for a coffee sometime.... :)

But if you are telling me that i was wrong to feel "rumblings" at that stage, then you are wrong.

Bailey's position was clearly in the media gunsights and in the press prior to WC game. Its not wrong what you feel its more the case that you weren't aware of the extent of media exposure on Bailey. It had gone well past the point of rumblings. And you are only restating my point that the WC game heightened the pressure. You seem to have got yourself a little over excited about the Facebook page. Enjoy.

Any windows in the room at ABC?

I am well aware that the "rumblings" were there well before the Wet Coke Game (i think i have said that before!!)

How was i not aware of such things as it was i who posted the link to the CEO article in the Australian??? You tried to hose me down after that one!!!

I felt the energy explode through this very website during the WC game, that i doubt the Media would have even predicted, Have no doubt that they did not expect the MFC member to be so forthright-we usually just keep it inside.

No more.

Its hardly rumblings if every major media outlet has already had 1 or more articles often by lead or name journalist saynig the heat is on Bailey and his tenure was at risk. It had moved on from there weeks ago particularly after the Hawks game.

Clearly there are no windows in your workroom at the ABC. This sort of thing happens at every Club when the Coach is under heat and the team plays badly.

The same happened in 2007 with Daniher and probably worse when there were expectations we would move beyond 8th on the ladder and it all came crashing down.

Get some fresh air.

No i have never seen the MFC supporter react with such venom than i did last thursday night. Yes it was big news in 2007 with ND but last thursday night it exploded, and it all came in about 2 minutes. Everyone reacted at exactly the same time.

Window is open at work with a nice afternoon Breeze thankyou..... B)

It must have been quite a mess.

It must have been quite a mess.

Could be, will be about six weeks before we know the full extent.

Christ, you can be a [censored] when you are in the mood.

WYL is simply saying that this weeks rage is supporter generated, pure and simple, and is not following the media.

What supporters are saying here is not the result of the media. Understand?

Thanks Mono, i thought it was quite obvious, but for some maybe not.

This is the first time the supporters have really cracked it in 47 years. And i am glad, the energy is going to push this club to a higher level.

The supporters? Demonland represents but a tiny percentage of Melbourne supporters. I know quite a few demons followers, including members, and not one visits (or vents on) this site.

WYL is simply saying that this weeks rage is supporter generated, pure and simple, and is not following the media.

And no one is arguing that supporters were not enraged but he was claiming there was no media attention on this issue prior to the game and stated that it was only "rumblings". That was pure carp. The media had Bailey well and truly in its sights across every outlet and were behaving in exactly the manner you were applying to them. Not diminishing the extent of supporters anger its naive claim to suggest that the media had no part in fuelling the dissent (unless of course supporters dont read the papers).

Clearly you werent a supporter of the club during the 1996 merger. Keep up the hyperbole.

A very good point.. not so much any denigrating of WYL... but the noting of thateveing at Dallas Brooks.

There is possibly something to the idea WYL is alluding ( if poorly..sorry wyl ) is we , the supporters , now have very different tools at our disposal. We have social media and by that im reaching much further than the 100 or so p!ssed off's who set up face-b etc. There's here for starters and we know its read by elements of the club. We can communicate withe club and probably more importantly ...they listen and openly solicit our involvement these days. How times change.

What I would say is that after thatlast insipid efort there was a deafening chorus of anger and disapproval ....it got heard. Its been noted and possibly influenced events,

That firm but gentle hand behind Bailey ?? Probably going to guide him all the way out the door

I was there at the Dallas Brooks Hall Rhino. Carry on. You once again miss my point.

1996 were very different circumstances....they were like 2007. We wanted our club to survive.

2011 we need our players to do their part.

Before last thursday Where did i claim there was no media attention Rhino??? I put the link up in the first place that YOU then drided!!

Of course there were Media rumblings, but it was the supporter anger 7 days ago that took it to another level. A level not even they expected.

Edited by why you little

I was there at the Dallas Brooks Hall Rhino. Carry on. You once again miss my point.

I didn't. It was a dumb statement about the supporters cracking it for the first time in 47 years. It was clearly not the case. In fact given there was no facebook or internet in 1996, the collective naked rage of the fans at Dallas Brooks was one of the most amazing experiences you could see

Irrelevant. Supporters were extremely upset at each occassion. And 2011 is the same as 2007 and 1996 -its about success and survival

I never stated that was your claim. I challenged your assertion that the broad media speculation and coverage of Bailey were mere rumblings. As other posters have pointed out, the issue of Bailey had moved beyond that point after the Hawks game.

sure, i was suprised a gun wasn't produced at the Dallas BH, i feared for Tiger. But it was a different, that was white rage, because the club was about to die.

Last thursday was more supporters saying "Not Good Enough" considering all the positives that have been reclaimed in the past 3 years. Call it semantics, but it was a different energy (just as powerful though)

I was actually pleased, it said to me that the MFC will rise, because us long suffering supporters will not allow it to pass over again.

over the past 47 years as far as onfield goes, we collectively have all just sucked it up and gone home....i think that is changing.

Yeah...im not sure you can simply put all of the various rages into one basket etc.. They are different and ofr differing reasons. RR right in that rage is rage..I'll concede WYL in that theres a different flavour and resonance about this event.

I think for far too many years we have despite any empty rhetoric just stood there whilst our fortunes were delivered ( or not ) . I can only suppose its that there is now such a detrmination by the Board down to succeed that this now generates not only expectations but a measurable barometer to accompany it.

We're failing.. Probably not over all but presently the tram's slipped off the rails and were going in circles. ( something of an oxymoron I realise...lol ) , anyway: there is a definite palpable groundswell of discontent that goes beyond the survival mode. For far too long weve been happy ( in reality ) to be just in teh competition and if possible competitive but in the great Melbourne way of the last 40 years , well thats all there is.

Not so any more. Premiership success has been put on the table. A timetable of sorts given it. Anything that sets to derail this needs to be attended to and directly.

The Club used to exist in haughty realms often aloof from the general rank and file. Ever since the Summit its been vastly different. The Club has invited and welcomed its members into its consciousness and now when the pain reaches a crescendo it too feels it directly from us at the same time as it must itself.Theres a remarkably differing symbiosis now than once existed.

Im not going to suggest that our efforts (i.e supporters ) by themselves created teh reaction by the club but I certainly feel it nudged it.

That is a brilliant post Bezelbub. The times are indeed a-changing at Melbourne. A shift in the collective consciousness of all who love the club is occurring.

I presume you've booked a room boys

Most people seemed to have forgotten 1997. A shocking season. In particular Round 9 against AFL debutants Port Adelaide. A peurile effort not seen for a long time until last weeks abomination. Neil Balme got the sack for that effort. Interesting to note the few players who flew the flag for us on that miserable day. Alistair Clarkson and Jim Stynes. Forget about the rest.

Good point. I think MFC have given supporters plenty of opportunity to vent their disgust/anger over issues despite the hyperbole of some.

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
