We're struggling to beat the competition's easybeats in our home state.

Yes, we have a much weakened defence but we should be doing better.

Dees 5.2.32 Lions 5.6.36

True, but as you said Grimes, Frawley, Batram all out make it a severely weaken defence, and I think they have a few back, I know Power is back and kicked a supergoal.

Garland also not there.

Not great so far 49-32 now.

We aren't looking great at the moment. A lot of kicking to contests, No efficient run and carry. Tackles don't stick. The defense is completely depleted that's one thing to note. Watts looks lost out there again although there isn't any direct ball movement.

Good to see gys and tappy and petterd running around. Ricky starting to take some grabs.

Watts receives free kick and will now have a shot from just outside 50 - but on the boundary

Watts kicks an outstanding goal - well done son!

Much needed goal from Dees. Melbourne 39 BL 50.

Dees needed that spark ... now down by 11 pts

Ricky Petterd rises to take a fine mark ... quickly gets the ball moving to Rohan Bail, who marks inside 50

Bail kicks a point

Very much like the Essendon game. Disposal and decision making is aweful.

Half Time - we trail by 10 points.

Goals to Dunn, Jetta, Maric, Martin, Sylvia & Watts

Luke Tapscott v. promising for what is virtually his first hit out with the club. Classy disposer of the ball compared to some of his more seasoned teammates.

Hope we bring out some system after the break.

No jurrah garland trengove grimes Davey from what I can see.

Petterd lifted and took some fine marks that qtr.

The ease at which teams carry the ball out of our fwd line is very frustrating. Luckily lions turn it over as much as us.

Midfield just lacks something at the moment. Just got to hope that the likes of jones and Silvia are still holding back.

I like the size and movement of Howe, should play some footy this yr.

Tapscott is a great positive and his kicking sublime.

Could be the theme of the day, taking away some individual highlights. Tapscott and Petterd so far.

Sounds though Tappy is going well, how many touches has he had?

Tapscott has been very good in first official hit out for Melbourne. His ability to hit targets and his long kicking skills have been on show

Just got some basic stats ... Marks: BL 73 Melb 29, Disposals: BL 187 Melb 144, Rich (14), Adcock (13), McGrath (12), Rockliff (12). Melb: Bail (11), Tapscott (11), Moloney (10)

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
