If this guy is fair dinkum then these Velocity Sports chislers are trying to ransom us and messing with Tom's head. The risk of injury and bad form is far too high for one so young to take these kind of chances when he can get a great deal with us now. But to repeat myself who are you?

Before I start i'll say that I read every night and post maybe three times a year. To begin i'll say that I've already stopped caring whether Tom plays for MFC in 2012. I want to enjoy Tom and the dees in 2011. Who knows how many hours of life have been wasted worrying about the negative. But to address some of the things I've read...

As for maguire, he's just directing the heat away from Swan, Pendalbury and Thomas. Scully will sign when he's ready as will Sylvia and a host of other Demons who's contracts are expiring at year's end.

I don't like Eddie bashing. Never have. I actually like the guy. I like him because he likes football. He gifted MFC the queens b'day match when he never had to. Anyone who says "who cares?" to that isn't going to the same games I am. It's our one and only marquee fixture. I know Eddie has a bias towards c'wood but I'd rather barrack for the pies than see Jimma suggest anything other than Melbourne were the club to be focused on.

Oh and while Eddie was busy talking up the Scully rumour and deflecting from his stars he oh so casually threw in those stars as his summation. So in order to detract attention from them, he drew attention to them? Give me a spell.

Sorry Nutbean going to have to call you a fool, Ablett was long gone by the end of the season.

I won't say fool but I was pretty sure he was gone. He'd done all he could at that club and his family were at GC. Tough ask for Geelong.

Hi Guys. First time poster!

Despite all of the hysteria I am here to tell you that Tom has

1 Not signed or even made a heads of agreement deal to head north

2 Has put off contract negotiations for the simple reason is that his management have told him to wait until the CBA is finalized to see what is in the pool (TV rights & what % is distributed to the clubs), effectively the salary cap in 2013 & 2014.

3 Is looking to buy a house/property in Melbourne, but cannot get finance until he has a contract

4 Cannot earn more than a set salary for the first 2 years (Whats the point of signing NOW for "unders" if he has a slashing first 10-12 rounds)

5 Has been strong enough to resist doing a back flip & signing due to media hype & speculation

Having said this it is incumbent on the club to put a good deal on the table come contract time as at the end of the day, you have a 10-12 year window at best to capitalize on earning potential.

For all of those that want him burnt at the stake & playing at Casey please bear in mind that he was HAPPY to sign for 3 years last August, but his management made the decision to play poker.

The boy loves playing, loves playing at Melbourne, has a fantastic relationship with the boys there and if the club do the right thing, will be there for the next 10-15 years!!!

Tough choice for the kid and the club. So much cash up for grabs. All being well at the dees... so much earning potential after the playing career. These comments say that Melbourne have to treat a future star like a current star. Everyone in this deal is gambling (Dees that Scully will be a star) (Scully that Scully will be a star) (And GWS that Scully won't get hurt.) Tough read.

I know Tom's family well through a friend playing at Vic Metro with Tom & others.

Not that this adds any credibility!! Or does it??

I am not after the "scoop of the year". All I am looking to do is alleviate the rubbish that has been directed Tom's way due to bulltish written about him DEFECTING to GWS.

He is the most loyal kid that there is & IF MFC look after him will be a 250 gamer.

Given good health this kid will be a 250 gamer wherever he plays. I hope he stays. I'm only bothered by one part of the possible deal and that's compensation. A #1 draft pick is a #1 draft pick. As a player who's yet to reveal what he's actually worth, then all he's worth is what was paid. If he goes MFC should be granted #1 pick in a the next draft. It's not fair if Scully's a gun and #1 pick 2011 isn't, but it's not fair to pin any more of that pressure on the poor bloke. I hope he has a ripper season.

/end rant.

thankyou for your posts

i think many of us supporters do go over the top and Tom could be such a great player and with him in the side will bring us closer to the holy grail we havent seen for many years. The media have built this up and as stated Kevin Sheedy is still dirty we didnt pick him as coach , this is the sort of game he would play. I am sure once the real season plays most of us will cheer and watch Tom play for us . the Afl need GWS in the papers and will push this till the cows come home ! any media is good for Sydney . just my thoughts . either way i will support melbourne and watch them play as i always do

Him or me?

I am not overly bright myself!!

Bottom line is that I do know that Tom is

1 Happy at MFC

2 Looking forward to NAB Cup/Season proper starting to put all of this crap behind him

3 Looking forward to SIGNING with MFC when the CBF is finalized (August Sept)

4 Looking forward to buying a property in Melbourne for him & his sister

Get him a fair & equitable deal and he is yours for life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This also irks me. Surely a grown man is not so petty. Not an attack on Markc, merely an opinion. It seems to me that (in all honesty) Kevin Sheedy couldn't give a sh*t about MFC, and this doesn't make him an individual in the football world. We take offense to Malthouse suggesting QB is our grand final! It is our bloody grand final!!! MFC haven't done a thing since 2000 in my memory.

I hate this attitude I see adopted. I'm reminded of Johnny Fontane squirming and saying "What am I gonna do?" Stand up. Be counted. Forget the Sheedys, the Malthouses and the freaking AFL. Put wins on the board. Get the job done and make the MCG the house of pain. Turn up and cheer because we're gonna win a lot more games from now on.

Until Jim started turning this Titanic around no one (that publicly mattered) cared about MFC. I'm glad we're on the map now but for God's sake, there is no curse. We make the off field happen and in 2011 the players make the on field happen. That group includes #31.

OK now literally end rant.

If what I said is eddy bashing then you're a touch sensitive. Also I never mentioned QB and he didn't gift us the game. Sure he gifted us the home team cash but the QB fixture was allocated by the AFL, who also allocate Collingwood the most generous MCG draw of any team which kind of makes Eddy's "gift" a little hollow. He may have mentioned his players but I'm pretty sure he didn't say the ink was drying and his source was impeccable as he did with Scully. Now take a spell by all means.

Don't worry, thats for me. Some people get too uptight here. They don't like vigorous debate and thrashing out the issues from all points of view. But if you are sincere in your posts then that is reassuring. Because I want to Tom to stay too. But I hate his management with a passion.

We really are ripping in to each other now aren't we?

I certainly hope the players don't read this thread because if they do they will wonder what we are on.

There have been a couple that have said they have information that would suggest he's staying and others that believe he's going, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I think I'll just concentrate on the season and worry about Tom sometime towards the end of the year.

Fortunately I think most Demonlanders have a reasonable grasp on what is going on. This gives me heart after I read ADC's panic stricken rants, and name calling of anyone who isn't as fearful as he is.

Fortunately all of the major players on our side have a greater grasp on reality and what is needed to be done.

It takes gumption not to fear the weight of expectation. It takes real courage to embrace it.

I wonder if there is a loser mentality at play here, where excuses for failure are put in place before the actual contest occurs.

And ADC will not address this post properly, he will continue with his tactic of attempting to have us all hiding in the corner wetting our pants, waiting to lose this great young player, waiting to the AFL to set us up for failure so then when the inevitable failure occurs it will come as no surprise.

I find solace in the fact that most people reject this notion and the there is a shift in the psyche of this great club.

Sorry, he gifted Melbourne the gate receipts. Happy? As for the QB comment it was merely my evidence as to why

a- I don't like Eddie bashing and,

b- He can act in the best interests for the competition. You cannot argue that the "gift" of the QB as a home fixture is not in benefit of MFC over CFC.

Also if we haven't all heard that Scully hasn't signed then what the hell are we panicking about for 20+ pages of net chatter.

I also meant no offense when I said I disliked Eddie bashing and my reasoning seems sound. If you take offense to it then the trait of sensitivity is yours.

Great to hear from someone who apparently has some inside info as to what may be happening. In fact all the posters I have read both here and elsewhere that claim to have some inside info have all said that he hasn,t signed and would be happy to stay at the Demons if the right deal is struck.

He "gifts" us the gate receipts because he can. His club continually receives the Royal treatment from the AFL in regards to fixturing so as I said his "gift" is a tad hollow.

I'm not panicking as I don't believe and never have that Scully is leaving.

You didn't need to mention "Eddy bashing" as I wasn't bashing him. What I will say about Eddy "conflict of interest" Maguire is just that. What the hell is a club President doing fanning rumours about players at other clubs. The answer: Drawing the heat away from his own. The truth be known I am a tad sensitive!

Do people on here worry that Scully might be booed by his own fans next time he steps on the field?

I know it's unlikely and completely out of line but there are some absolute morons in society - MFC fans included!!

This is exactly what I was getting to!

Boo him in April/May & June, but then he signs in August!!!

What then????

I know for a fact that this kid loves the MFC!!!!!!

The question that everybody needs answered, is what have the MFC offered him to stay?????

Maybe we need to look at retention as an option?

Lets get it all knocked over soon & get on with the footy!!!!

You know ... I like this. I reiterate that there wasn't an accusation of Eddie bashing. Just a statement of my dislike for it. But I hear what you're saying here, and i'm catching what you're throwing. Lets enjoy this season. For my own stability I hope it's a hell of a ride.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
