Man this is tough to watch... Huge let off by the Pats D here. Rams gotta take advantage

Terrible hold by Sullivan killed that drive, the. Why go to cooks on the big play when Gilmore was in his pocket. Not a smart call or throw.

This just reaffirms in my mind that Belichick is the GOAT.

He has been the difference today, we have been beaten at what we do well, and even when our D has been great and Brady quiet by his standards it’s been the game plan that has won the day.

That was a rough watch. Tougher still for poor old Gorg. Bloody Pats. Sick of them.

Yeah fair let down as a spectacle. Not that Pats fans will mind. Most explosive offensive game in the history of the sport last year, then that.

Rough way to lose. Was really hoping they could make some big plays late and bring it home for you @Gorgoroth. Tough to take.

TBH it wasn’t that bad, I mean I’m not happy but we were beaten but when you make bad calls and your QB was as poor as he was I wasn’t expecting to win.

After the first go in the third I was sure that the game was never to be ours unless the D or ST scored.

We get Kupp back next year which will help massively.

Think I'll be wearing my Patriots jacket to round one, please lads don't creep up and behind me and slap me in the head. Go Pats Go. Been a fan since the Booming Darren Bennett started punting so I don't mind the Chargers either. Pity Drew Brees didn't stay there, their history would of been different and won a title or two.

I sort of feel the same way about the WC final last year. It wasn't like we were close. We weren't ever gonna be I don't think.

I remember when Brady had it last year just before the Graham strip sack, I felt we were gonna lose. You know when it dawns on you when you're behind in a game and you know it's not possible to get it back. Had things turned out differently last year I'd have been shattered to be so close and watch Brady steal it again. So I think you're right... this wasn't the Ram's year.

Actually. Had things turned out differently we'd be reading about a Pats threepeat. Thank god for dem Eagles, and Nicky Franchise.

Consolation prize for you @Gorgoroth

You're the winner of the post season tipping comp!  Well played and good tipping.  I'll post up the overall tallies sometime in the next day or so.  2nd goes to @Go the Biff  & 3rd place goes to @DeeSpencer  Well played gentlemen.

Bad luck about the big one Gorg but Belichick,  Brady & the Pats were just too good in a fairly forgettable game all round.  We kept waiting for something to happen but the only real highlight was the Brady throw to Gronk.  That play proved to be the most decisive play as well.

Anyway,  thanks to all for your participation.

Final Tally - Post-Season Tipping Comp

Follow this tweet and it’s thread for a brutal breakdown of the Rams Offense and their failure to adapt to beat Belichick.

Note to all NFL coaches.

Coach your players to play multiple styles. Without them you have no chance if you come up against a coach who can.

The worst thing for me was we didn’t do what has worked vs Edelman in the first half and that was hit him at the line of scrimmage.

The other was by not even trying to stay with Gurley in the run game in the first half played straight into Belichicks plan. He did it to th3 chiefs, at half time they adjusted and came at the Patriots.

McVay and Goff were deers in headlights. McVay blinked in the first drive and kept blinking and I reckon Goff also got that feel from McVay. How often did we go quick and get to he line and have McVay still talking to Goff... maybe 3 times.

To be honest the game was so boring I was barely watching and couldn't work out exactly what the Rams were or weren't doing, but they did well enough on defense to win it. Did the Pats stack Edelman in a bunch so he couldn't be pressured? They did that against KC.

It was clear to me what the Pats were doing.

Lining 6 defenders on the D Line and saying to the Rams you can't run outside zone runs and good luck running play action because we'll just bring the 6 defenders no matter what. So you better have it blocked perfectly and be super fast to get it out or we'll pressure Goff.

As Warren Sharp documents in that thread the logical change was to bring in a second tight end so you've got 7 blockers if need be. I know the Rams don't have great tight ends, which is a lesson for teams around the league - invest in valuable players in the positions that have versatility like tight end = a more versatile offense. But either way the Rams had to get that 7th blocker in and force the Pats to change from just lining up 6 defenders on the line and getting pressure on Goff.

Goff certainly choked, the delayed throw to Cooks cost a touchdown and the lead. And yeah I think McVay wasn't as confident in Goff from the Chicago game on. He had to find some plays that gave him and Goff confidence. A series of short completions or a designed run or something. Maybe it was the play to Cooks that would've been the one that got them going.

With Edelman first half we allowed him space at the line meaning he had clear paths to run routes. Titans showed weeks ago if you hit him at the line then follow he  and Brady are much less effective. Other teams followed suit and first half we didn’t. Got more physical second half.

ps don’t blame you for not watching ?

Browns sign Kareem Hunt. Never afraid of a circus that lot..

Saw that, it’s full of clauses pending charges etc.

but let’s be honest, a club was always going to get him as he is a star and the NFL has very loose morals.

More football?  Can it last?

The 'Alliance of American Football' lasts from early February until late April and could be viewed as a 3 month extension of the NFL albeit under another banner.  8 teams in its inaugural season all based out of reasonable sized to large sized cities.

As DS pointed out with regards to the masses of viewers that the NFL gets,  this new league might just get a foothold.

NFL fans over there are as fanatical as Aussie rules fans are here but even if this new league only picks up 10% - 20% of those NFL fans,  it could be a success.  The cities represented might decide to get behind their representative teams and the league.  Interesting that Atlanta is represented but Atlanta is a very large city.  Also interesting that CBS and the CBS Sports network are covering the games as is the NFL Network.

You just never know - it's America where all things are possible.

  • GAMEDAY: Fremantle

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
