Well as previously mentioned, the NFL can look slow as it's not end to end stuff like footy.  To really like the NFL is a slow burn but once your hooked, you're all in

So it's like a chess match but a lot more physical! Once you understand the rules and the scoring methods, it's quite an easy game to follow

I first took notice of the sport decades ago but it took another 10 or 15 years until I really got into it.  Now, the NFL just replaces the footy once the footy season ends.  One sport ends as the other starts

I'd say the dozen or so people on this thread are very keen on the sport at about the same level of interest

It's certainly an acquired taste and it can take years to fully appreciate.  But as slow as the sport can look, each play is unique and is hard to predict

And any sort of score can come from nowhere.  No 2 games are alike as well

The sport is way less violent these days but players will still use their helmet as weapons

And the Quarterbacks are well protected!!

QB are well protected in deed.

Stafford has been horrible today and McVays play calling not much better.

Our D is so bad that 75% of them should be terminated.

Tipping comp news!

Gonzo will pick up a big 8 points unless the Cowboys* can win for Clint.  Otherwise both will be the only 2 to pick up 6 points

And the upsets continue with Arizona & the Giants both winning against reasonably big spreads

5 Road winners so far with 2 games to go to complete week 5 

 

*JV7 & Dave also need Dallas to win to pick up 2 points

Am I right in saying that the running game across the board has increased?  

The Packers are running the ball a lot more, that's for sure.  But we're an ok team only who might snag a wild-card berth

As it stands, we'll do well to get past the Vikes or Detroit in our division

Yeah the run game I reckon is back in vogue.
Williams over took Faulk as the Ram RB's with the second most amount of TD's in his first 16 games, could have either tied or over taken Eric Dickerson as the most with a second TD today.
That's Rams Royalty right there. 
 

Also had his 12th 100+ game today only as a second yr starter.

McVay should be leaning on the run game so much more especially with Corrum doing some great runs too.

But he runs away from the run game quicker than Tyrek Hill runs from the defence.

I strongly disagree

The ruling beforehand was diabolical for QB's

 And the teams were getting more sophisticated with regards to hurting the QB's

The new narrative is that the there was an overcorrection but again, that's just the mob talking

And I hate the mob mentality (or groupthink)

The current ruling is correct ... a QB can still get hit in the torso but not late.  Hit the head or knees and you'll get pinged

It's like the late hit in footy, penalised now where as before, allowed

Get used to it as it's not changing back

Central to this discussion are the pending lawsuits re concussion etc 

They had to do something otherwise they are could be seen as complicit.  NFL,  AFL,  NRL etc

So I'm expecting the rules on hits to become tighter as the years go on

I am all for players health and well being. But they need to be careful not to make it to the point that you punish excessively those on the defensive side of the ball.

I am old school and like tough defensive contests. Hard to see these days when offense is paramount to most decisions made by the NFL.

defence down to the bare bones but held up really well against an admittedly blunt steelers offence.

some costly turnovers in the red zone including one dreadful pick on the 3-yard line but when the chips were down Dak drove the length of the field to take the lead with 20 seconds left.

its still a tough road ahead given how decimated our defence is but wins like this can only breed confidence and belief

Ah well, get ready for more protection for the players.  It won't be going the other way

But even with the new measures it is still a brutal sport without all the cheap shots

As it stands, the NFL are going to be up for $Billions in costs with the AFL not far being them.  Ditto for the NRL

The measures have been forced, they had no choice

If they didn't do anything, we wouldn't have either sport at all in the decades to come

So it's change or go without completely

Prescott won the game for the Cowboys.  Those 2 big drives he was in complete control

He cops it a lot but deserves full credit today

He's a very good QB but the greats are measured by post season success. Obviously hasn't been able to get it done in play-offs but that's as much due to the powder puff cowboys mentality as anything else.

you'd have liked todays game so. Lots of 3rd and short plays.

There was one bone crunching hit on the 1 yard line by the steelers D. Defender took flight and stopped our attacker dead in his tracks and dislodged the ball. Luckily Dak managed to recover the loose ball but that was some hit. That hit almost won the game for the Steelers.

Regardless of how you might go in the playoffs, you've still got to win 10+ games to get there

Lose today and you'd be 2 and 3 with a really tough couple of months coming up

And Pittsburgh have been very solid this season so that's a good win for Dallas.  In fact, any win on the road is often hard earned

In your division, Washington continue to impress with Jayden Daniels improving game to game.  They might be the team to get past as their next 2 months isn't too tough (especially their next month)

Major development in the tipping comp!

Clint & Gonzo have made their move picking up 6 points each whilst Dave stays in the lead scoring points again

The rest of us are within striking distance especially with 4 bonus weeks (9, 13, 16 & 17) still to come

The new scoring method has added more interest as well with most regularly picking up points week to week

But he also had a terrible INT in the red zone, plus a silly sack when they were inside the 25 yard line. That's at least 6 points lost.

That's why I can't never trust him in crunch time.
