The Panthers are a weird one. I wasn't that impressed with them in week 1. They may well have the most fierce defense around though and Luke Kuechly is back to his old self.

With Olsen now out for 6-8 weeks and Newtons arm no where near as good as it was, I'm very wary on how their offence will go.

Falcons were always going to be a weird one really season as no one knew how badly the loss last year scared them. Panthers wwent to a heap after their loss.

Yeah true, I have a sense that the team has "embraced the suck" as was their motto in the off season and will take it in their stride this season.. Obviously won't be proven right or wrong until seasons end but only 2 sides have ever lost the SB and returned to win it the following year.... We are only the 4th side in history to lose the SB and winning the opening 2 games next season, it's a start!

Ryan is playing well, Jones is a star but I've been super impressed with your running game. O-line is playing well and opening good holes. The D is getting the job done. There is a lot to like.

JV has shot to an early lead in the tipping comp ... Dappa also picked up a big 2 points as well.  Shouda gone for the Titans - shouda, couda, wouda.

This week and next (weeks 3 & 4) we're playing for 1 point only but as you well know, every point counts.  Wide open this week though ... just gotta get the right 3.  Good luck!  Remember - get ya tips in early.

There's a few decent match-ups again but the pick of 'em might be the Falcons @ Detroit (early Sunday)  SNF & MNF look the goods too.  Thursday night is a big game for the Rams but the 49ers will be desperate for a win.  Could be a close one.

Leaderboard in the comp

3 - JV7

2 - Dappa Dan

1 - Go the Biff,  Clintosaurus,  Macca

0 - The rest

Wow, you guys are tipping early.

There's any number of possible's this week ... including your Rams on Friday (our time)  The Ravens,  Seattle,  Dallas,  Miami,  the Falcons & the Broncos all have decent claims too.

I read somewhere that Bradford has bruising on the bone in his knee so he's very doubtful.  Which means Tampa could be a real show as well.

I'm half tempted to tip the Rams... super worried that we won't have fixed the D vs the run. Got smashed on Sunday.

What I have seen from the niners hasn't been great but if was wet in the last game so hard to go by that game.

I did read that the Rams have 5 offensive TD's, rest of the NFC West has a combined 4...

It's a tough gig steering clear all day, I hate it but there's no alternatives really.... Makes it even tougher not watching for a full 24 hours!

I mix it up with some live visual (RedZone),  a fair bit of tunein radio and usually manage to watch 2 full games out of SNF,  MNF & Thursday night football.

I'll be doing tunein radio tomorrow because of the footy & the NRL.  Tunein is the best $11 a month value out there (if you like live radio sport)  On top of the NFL,  one can tune into any game of MLB,  NHL & NBA - whenever.

I go back a ways and for a long time there, we got absolutely nothing.  Zero TV and as for audio coverage - zilch.  It was just footy, cricket and a bit of soccer,  golf & tennis.

Got a mate who isn't bad with predicting outcomes and he reckons the Crows will obliterate Geelong.  Me,  I'm no good with these sort of things but I favour the Crows.

Reckon GWS may spoil the Tigers party too ... but again, what the hell would I know!

Storm vs Broncos could be a top game though ... I've got into the NRL of late - a brutal sport.

How long you been following the NFL for interests sake Macca ?

Back in the day,  Don Lane (who?) was a Packers fan and from time to time he would sprout their sporting prowess to a bewildered audience who had no freakin idea what he was talking about.

But I was just a youngster then and was suitably fascinated.  So they became my team even though I could never watch them or hear anything about them.  There was no cable and the only game we ever got was the SB.

So I was a Packers fan from afar for a long time.  Australia finally dragged itself into the 20th century in the mid 90's so now I get to see them play whenever.

Even I'm thinking of tipping the Rams this week. Even though we took it to the Seahawks. Hoyer not bringing home the biscuits IMO.

Good ol Don Lane. That's what got m into the NFL.

Macca, I've been watching the NRL since I was a young un, followed the Balmain Tigers back before the Storm. It's a great TV game, ok to watch live but tbh I prefer it on TV.

I like the West Tigers but am also a Benji fan - gone for a year and now he's coming back.  Also like the Cowboys because of Thurston.

Great competition in a sport worth watching and the stars - that'll do.

Same story here. Don Lane used to explain the rules to us novices. Also followed Balmain with Blocker Roach, Benny Elias and Garry Jack who played the game like an AFL player. Was great to watch. Dropped off when they merged & Marcus Bai made me a rusted on Storm fan

Also been into NFL since the Don Lane days. Can also remember Eddie hosting a 3 hour Tuesday night NFL highlights show that had highlights of all the games and 2 featured games one of which was always the Monday Night game. Think it was 11pm to 2am so usually recorded it.

Have been following Parramatta in the NRL since 1976 - has been a largely frustrating time except for 1981 to 1986 and the occasional finals visit in recent years. Totally [censored] the bed last Saturday when a spot in the Grand Final was there for the taking.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
