One Ripped Forward

That photo was actually taken just before the 2010 season, wasn't it? It was definitely early in the year as it was on the back page of The Sun. I remember it.

Well thats a killer. that ripped and got bullied on the ground. clearly needs to be arnie to assert his strength on the field then. next stop: creatine factory

you're right it was taken start of this year. Needs to put on about another 10-12 kgs i reckon. He's not even in the 90's yet.

89kg is as close as he can get without being in the 90s.

I think his optimum weight will eventually be about 98kg, but the kid is still growing.

It's unsafe for him to put too much weight on too soon.

Good to see Mark Stevens is traveling with the team (& Adrian Anderson too...).

Smart move. He'll want to ingratiate himself with our players for easy access in the future as we become a more successful side.

Helps the club too with media exposure at this slow time of year for AFL news.

That photo is from last pre-season.

Jack and the boys came along to watch some of the Asia Champs today in Shanghai, he's a tall lad and there's a good frame to build in to. Remember we saw him running around on the 'G seven weeks ago so it's unlikely he's that much bigger.

Someone who is bigger on the other hand is Fev. He's carrying a lot of weight...

More than he should be, I gather ??? Poor ol' Fev. :)

The last thing Brisbane needs is extra baggage.

Interesting article, confidence plays a massive part in anyones game and by his own admissions, Watts wouldn't have had much of that going into his 15 successive matches. Not feeling like you belong in the player group would surely hamper your game.

"With hopefully a full pre-season to come, including a weight gain from 89kg to about 92kg, Watts will be far better equipped to get the job done." Does this mean a hopefull increase from 89-92 over the next preseason, or does he weigh 92 now and he still has a preseason to add more? Does anyone know how much Watts currently weighs?

How much weight can one put on in a preseason? Talking gym work not food works?

Depends what areas you're working on. Putting some muscle into your upper legs and shoulders are the heaviest areas therefore will see the most weight gain in terms of muscle mass. If he was to do a preseason working on his core less weight would be gained. Interestingly, Pavlich is 102kgs and Riewoldt is 96. Pavlich is more of a one on one mark taker whereas Riewoldt needs to be running ive found to take a mark. Which version would you prefer a Pav Watts of a Riewoldt.

89 to 92.

Just putting it out there, could you imagine Frawley in the forward line?

Reminds me of David Neitz's situation, would have been one of the greats in the back line, but his calling at the time was kicking goals.

the way i see it...if jack only stuff's up 50% of the time,,,compared with season 2010,,,he will have a fantastic year! and the following year he doesn't stuff up and puts on weight up to 98kg he will really enjoy his footy!

Remove our best defender and the centrepiece of our defense, to put him in a lesser role in the forward line that could be filled by a much lesser player than he.

I don't see why you think that would be a good idea.

Maybe we should put Morton at FB & Watts in the ruck?

Why the hell not...

Re-read my post, when did I ever say that Bailey should go ahead and do that? You really couldn't see that I was coming from a hypothetical point of a view, and was basically saying that Frawley has the attributes as well to fill a great forward line player like Neitz did?

Why in hell would you think I would want him out of our back line when he was made an All-Australian in that position?

89 to 92.

If he increased from 89 to 92 this preseason, and then from 92-96 the following preseason, he should be ready to really grab games by the scruff of the neck by 2012.

Very responsible management by the club

What is he now?

89.

For a guy 196cm, he realistically won't be imposing himself at AFL level till he is 95kg+. By the start 2012 he should be 95kg with 40 games experience, and ready to have a really big break out season. Perfect timing just as we are starting to make finals

What is he now?

From 89 to 92...something tells me he is 89.

Your talking squats and benchpress son, big compound movements. Squats for core, most power comes from your legs so this helps with one on ones. Legs/glutes, chest, back- largest muscles. Squats, deadlifts, bench, legpress etc increase size and power. Shoulders/biceps/triceps etc, smaller muscle groups.

Very good points you raise- I think if he can reach 96kls overtime and end up like a Riewolt that'd do me-thank you very much..indeed.

He needs to take weight gain lessons from Kenny "F#$king" Powers!

Hahaha i love Danny McBride.

You're listening to "You're Fu%ing Out, Im Fu%ing In" by Kenny Powers...

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
