Played very well across half-back for Casey but struggled to force his way into the senior side, only playing two games for the year. Hard bodied and uses the ball well but a lack of pace hurts him - Luke Holmesby melbournefc

I think his lack of pace is his only glaring weakness. The problem is that speed is hard to get. Some people just can't get quick no matter how hard they work at it.

I like Fetta, but it is very clear that next season will be his last if he cannot crack that lineup and stay there for more than 2 weeks.

Many poster's here will be well aware of my glaring love for Kyle.

He is young. He is a tough nuggety type. He does the courageous stuff. He loves to get his hands dirty. He's an honest player.

2nd by a fraction of a margin in the Casey Seniors' B&F to B. Miller says he is solid in defence - and this is true as he was always amongst "the best".

He probably isn't in Melbourne's best 22... but he's a damn good depth player if a Bartram (in particular) or a Rivers goes down.

Kyle's an interesting case but, like James Strauss, needs to be persisted with I think. If Strauss can get a 2-year deal, Kyle has to be rewarded as well.

Has a lot of work to do.

I don't see a future for him in the senior side.

Agreed. He gets a lot of love on all the MFC forums, and I just can't see why. At AFL level he has no real strengths (oh sorry, except "a bit of mongrel") and doesn't have a position with his name on it.

I understand the logic in the two year contract he was given, but I think it was for naught. Won't make it.

A real goer- I hope he makes it next year.

I agree, sometimes you need these players to keep pressure on the other guys & for a bit of injury protection. Not every player on every list will be a star otherwise you wouldnt need over 40 blokes on a list. Some players take longer to develop or to find the best position for them. Now i havnt been on here for a while but last time i was everyone was saying delist Jamar as hes garbage,Sylvia to but look at the years they just had & to think lots of Demon supporters would of traded them for unknown players.Sometimes you have to have faith & go with what we have, its no point trading or delisting for players that arnt any better

According to Twitter, player/manager Alex McDonald says Demon Kyle Cheney could be traded by the club.

I would suggest some form of low key trade might transpire because he would only be worth a mid to late draft pick.

Kyle will only be going to one place-China with our football club.

Kyle had a very good year at Casey, as shown by his second placing Gardner-Clark Medal. However, it's hard to see how he was ever going to become a regular best 22 player for the Dees, and his trade to the Hawks seems to be a win / win for both parties. Good luck at Hawthorn Fetta.

Was one of my favourites- always done his best. However our club has stated he was not in our best 22. All the best in your football career.Another ex MFC person going to the Hawks.

Ditto. Mine too. I think he'll do OK for himself.

All the best Kyle Cheney.

The tough on baller won his second Keith 'Bluey' Truscott Trophy in a narrow battle with skipper Max Gawn and Alex Neal-Bullen and battled on manfully in the face of a number of injury niggles. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
