Liam Jurrah has scored 32 goals in his first 15 games of AFL football. Have a look how this effort compares to some of the games recent great forwards

J Brown 7

W Carey 11

N Riewoldt 12

B Hall 14

G Ablett 14

L Franklin 15

D Brereton 20

M Lloyd 25

B Fevola 26

L Jurrah 32

T Lockett35

J Dunstall36

Great stat

Given where Liam has come from, and how much he has had to learn, one can only say he has been a success story so far. He is a freak of nature, and hopefully he will grow as a player with each game he plays.

What a future, especially when he gets fit.

Not a fair comparison. Jurah is three years older. It's like comparing Barlow to Scully. Jurah is looking good, but you cannot compare him to an 18 year old key position player.

I thought some of Jurrahs forays into the mid-field today were exciting and he obviously has the potential (as does Watts I think but to a lesser degree) to be throw into the middle for short periods and provide something different at some stage but no doubt he's best place is in the forward fifty and he needs to polish up those skill first. But yeah great start for him to his career so far :)

You forgot this player:

A Jakovich 78

Now that is a good stat !

The most interesting thing is that I don't think we have come close to seeing his best. One day it will all come together in a big way.

Dunstall debuted at 21

While Jurrah is 3 years older, he has not been developed within traditional junior football ranks. Barlow was raised within the Victorian football system

Given his background and his lack of natural assimilation and familarity with city life and AFL footballer, its reasonable to compare him to a 17/18 year old. He's 21 but he is raw.

In some ways it is like comparing apples with bananas

Or apples and pears.

I'd probably kick 20 goals if Ablett was delivering me the ball demon_biggrin.gif

It is a remarkable achievement for Jurrah, considering where he has come from and how limited his AFL preparation has been.

One day, he'll go mental and kick 15 in a game.

You have to love a player who can turn shite into gold.

Agree with this. As posted above, also agree with the excitement he bought when pushing up the ground. LJ needs to bring a more desperate, harder edge at times but this is not too much of a concern.

All of Jurrah, Wonna & Bennell have a massive amount of talent, in different area's of the game too, they all need to find it a bit more at times IMO as they do go missing for periods of games. In LJ & Wonna's case they are coming back from injury interrupted seasons & pre-seasons and will be better for the run this year.

I love Jimmy Bennell, he seems to start games with a rush and is involved early but then fades out of games too much. This needs to improve but another with a heap of talent and x factor.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
