Although it is great that we are going to make a $2m profit, I'm more excited that we are effectively debt free. What a huge burden off the shoulders of our great club. Remember, it is this debt that almost killed us off in 2008, and it is this board that has saved us from going the way of the dodo.

The club and it's supporters have come a long way since two years ago. There is still more work to be done as it enters it's next phase in building an asset base.

MFC followers as a whole can keep their chin up and feel proud.

Let's not lose focus though, whilst it is important to maintain a healthy base off the field; to give it the best shot on field week in/week out. A Premiership and ongoing success shall remain the ultimate goal for this club to strive for. And importantly with that, growth of the supporter base.

Don't worry. Over the next ten years, I think it's going to become more and more "cool" for a kid to barrack for the Demons, and it's at that level that real and lasting increase in supporter numbers come. Those kids eventually become mothers and fathers with children of their own, and the cycle continues.

Bloody awesome.

Wednesday night we'll be debt free.

With great facilities, making profits, off-field we are absolutely dominating.

Let's hope we dont borrow again to prop up the underperforming and totally inappropriate investment in the Bentleigh fiasco. PS What a wonderful job the committee and members have done to achieve this great outcome. Well done the Melbourne Football Club!

^^This.

Also, it's great to see that the club have taken some unconventional steps re: player payments. Looks bad in the short term (i.e. a team just finishing 16th using 100% of TPP), but should turn out to be a masterstroke in the long term.

Hazy ?

You're starting to sound like a politician.

Being Debt free means no interest payments. That is what has killed this club for years.

Now We the Supporters and all involved can BUILD this club to being a Top Line Business & Great Footy Club.

It all starts next week. Cool.

Where is Hazy i wonder??

Hazy ?

Haha. When I saw this thread this morning I was half-expecting that by now, there'd be a vintage Hazy post about how this is a complete false economy and -in any case- any genuine bit good news from this article can mostly be put down to the previous administration laying the groundwork.

It's getting tougher for him, but I've got faith he'll come through with something in the next couple of days.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?
