i think after the 300 Foundation Heroes donate there 5k we'll be out of debt and into being finacially ahead. that should be 1.5m. well done everybody.

I think it will only be the new members who have to donate the $5,000. No doubt others will still give but not $5,000 each.

I love that the tins were filled and that so many contributed, including many Swannies supporters. However, I have a small complaint to make Re: some of the tin rattlers. I can only speak for the ones that were on the Level 2 Balcony in the MCC members. I noticed that they were not paying attention to those who were trying to donate that were not sitting directly on the isles. I know it is a tough gig, but i was seated in seat 12 and my dad seat 13.. Both of us wanted to make a 'note' donation and tried to waive at the girl to gain her attention. Sadly we were ignored. Many others around us were in the same boat. As soon as everyone noticed the tin rattlers coming around, everyones hands went in to the pocket to pull out whatever they had. Sadly many did not get the opportunity to pass their contribution on.

I am not blaming anyone or having a go at the volunteers who gave up their time, but perhaps if we run this type of thing again a little more organisation is needed. It is harder in the area I am talking about as well as there are a lot of people packed close together and getting to everyone is a bit tough.

However, if I was the MFC I would next time direct the tin rattlers to stand one on either end of the isles on either side. Pass the tin up and down each isle/ A la collection plates at Church. That way teh 'plate' (tin in this case) gets around to all members and supporters. Just something to consider for next time. Isle by isle is the way to go. Everyone will put something in as they feel embarassed if they don't. Least that has been my experience with Church collection plates.

Good effor though team and lets hope we smash a bit more of that debt. I think we will all be suprised with how much we will get. I saw a lot of $10'ers and $5.00ers being slipped in there. A few people slipping in the odd $50.00 too.

Strict instructions were given to all collectors do not start until jimmy speaks at 1.45pmand finish at 2 pm to be back by 2.15 pm i think your a bit harsh on the volunteers and if you can do better then go ahead, and if you didnt get a chance there is always via the club site and there you will get a receipt.

Shame that by the sounds of it a few of the tin-rattlers weren't as alert as they might be - but they were a bulk group of pure volunteers so can't expect too much, I guess.

I will happily put my hand up! Tell me how and when and I will be there. I dont think i was too harsh on the volunteers, in fact I stated that i appreciate them giving up their time and that I respect the fact it is a tough assigment. I will however say that the youngish blonde lass collecting on the Level 2 balcony of the MCC hadn't a clue what she was doing. But yeah, good on her for giving up her time.

Eventuually the second representative is at the other end of the isle waiting to collect the tin. They in turn pass it to the 1st person seated at the next isle and so on. I realise you have concerns about people stealing the tin, but if both represantatives are paying attention and watching the tin, this will not be a problem.

They asked for 50 volunteers, we didn't get 50 volunteers.

So how are you going to get two people on each side?

They were only allowed to collect in the seating area, concourse was off-limits. If you were so keen, why didn't you head down to the demon shop and give a donation there??? Or is that being too harsh.

What happens if it gets dropped?

What happens if it breaks open?

- having not seen the tin up close, it could have an easily removable lid

What happens if it disappears?

- it could get dropped and roll around and be slipped into someone's bag before anyone notices what happened.

What happens if a note isn't pushed in properly and it gets taken out by someone?

What happens if an argument starts because someone accuses another of doing that, whether correct or not?

What happens when it gets to someone who is ridiculously slow in realising what is going on/ incredibly slow finding their money / passing it on?

What happens when it gets to an aisle that has big gaps so people need to stand up and shuffle along to pass it to the next person?

- this will make the whole process take a lot longer and potentially make it harder for some people to donate.

What happens when it gets passed through to opposition supporters who resent our club for some reason/think they are clever/funny and do something incorrect with the tin?

What happens when people in general just get confused about what they are supposed to?

A lot of these scenarios are a bit far-fetched, but they are far from impossible.

The more people handling a tin full of money, the more potential problems that arise and the more people you have to trust to do the right thing.

Just the potential for drawing our the process and logjams make me want to avoid it.

The club is striving to wipe out the last $767,000 of debt by next week, having already received pledges of $5000 from 52 new ''Foundation Heroes'' who have signed up over the past fortnight, plus an additional $135,000 raised in that time - meaning in effect, it has already eradicated about half of that remaining $767,000 owed.

That is very generous of you. I threw a hundred in as a country supporter. Good to read what everyone gets up too, and i am aslo a member but its a bit to far to drive up to watch the games so its more like a donation. Bad times are what make the good times so good hey....

Tonight's the night where the Melbourne Football Club could well be debt free for the first time in 30 years!

Super work from every single person, from Jimmy to each and every member that has donated.

I just donated and feel good for doing so. They probably didn't need my small amount and no doubt will reach the required amount but i wanted to contribute too this club i have loved all my life! So lets not leave it up too the big wigs and all show our support no matter how small!

Every last cent counts. If every member had tossed in $25 we would be done so its the small amounts that count.
