Fletcher suspended

Not too much to say here.

Fletcher got a couple of weeks for kneeing Muston.

[Deleted] To think Scott Thompson from North copped all that flak earlier this season when Fletcher was the prototype for years on end.

Anyway, why is this relevant?

Fletcher will be missing when we play the bombers, as will be Pears after his lacerated pancreas.

It will help our cause quite a bit and Watts in particular, I think.

Their defense is already a bit suspect, but this is great for us.

Yeah good news assuming they don't contest the suspension. Essendon will have half of their defence out and might have to take the dangerous Hurley from the forward line into defence.

On a side note, I think it was Bruce McAvaney stating that Fletcher was a clean up-standing citizen Fletcher on the field. He failed to take into account Fletcher's long tribunal history.

When people mention Dustin Fletcher's name, some like Sheedy refer to him as the best fullback in the comp. The first thing that springs to my mind when I hear the name Dustin Fletcher is a full back for Essendon that is a great competitor for a very long period of time, the gangly skinny type with long arms and reach, who has a penchant for tripping up opposition players.

Sad that he always had Niets's measure though, always made me mad.

Agree.

He has been a long time great of the game. One of the best FBs I have ever seen. Pity about the odd incident here and there. Its interest how it focusses some posters attention away from 300 games of great AFL football.

Would have loved him in MFC colours.

Bit of a sad states of affairs with all this bagging you hear about Flethcer....

Would have loved Fletcher ahead of Nicho, Shanahan etc.

300 games at AFL level, premiership full back. Who cares if he has tripped someone a few times? No one would have cared about that if he played for their club.

The Guy played in a premiership side while in year 12, back in '93 when i first went Overseas. Now that is so long ago in my life, & he is still playing 2010 football , & doing it well.

In no way is he being carried. Yep all i can say is i wish Dustin Fletcher had played for Melbourne.

(just imagine if Jack Watts had played in a Flag winning side last year)

Dustin Fletcher is a credit to himself & the game, regardless of his tribunial visits.

Why are some people so sensitive ? The thread topic is regarding Fletcher's suspension. As an extension of that is the mention of his history at the tribunal. Regardless of how good he has been over a very long period of time (of which has been acknowledged), you can't but help acknowledge the facts.

It's "sad" that people react to things so sensitively, they don't necessarily want to hear or read.

The Thread Topic also calls him a dirty thug. That is what i object to. Leigh Matthews and Mal Brown were Dirty Thugs, i don't put Fletcher in that category.

When you hear the word 'thug' you think of players like Barry Hall, Brereton or Matthews... players that belt blokes behind play or go out of their way to inflict pain. I don't think Fletcher fits in this category but he is definitely a dirty player.

I read somewhere that he has now gone to the tribunal 17 times in 18 seasons for tripping, kneeing, kicking (all multiple times) & goal post shaking. He has the wrap sheet of a 10 year old girl. The only thing he hasn't been cited for is pulling hair & being a tattle tale

Here here!

It's every second thread these days.

Never seen so many tree huggers, Do gooders in my life.

Dustin FLetcher is a cheat. He is lucky he has got off so leniently for an act that has the potential to break someone's leg. He has been charged what, 7 times??

Actually I don't think halls a thug. He could have been in a past Era.

I think he has just had an occasional brain snap, he was always on the Edge, but hasn't really been knocking people out all over town, like in past Era's. Not like Lockett or Ditterich, or Cowboy Neale etc.

Hall has been mostly, over the last 5 or so Years, very much Bluff, except for that brain snap when his life was apparently in turmoil.

so, I don't think he quite makes it as a genuine thug.

PS: Millane may have qualified. Roger Merrett, Ronnie Andrews.

Apologies.

I actually agree the term thug is inappropriate in reference to Fletcher.

[Deleted]

He is as unsportsmanlike a player as I have ever seen.

In spite of his achievements he is a pathetic human being.

The evidence of his character is right there for all to see.

Enforcer, he is neither the insulting terms you have have labelled him with. Please avoid further instances.

I tend to agree that Hall is not a thug; he is unstable. Volatile.

Yeah, I agree, Fletcher is one of those,,, irritating,,,,,,,,,,schitts, a great footballer who just like to hate the way he goes & snipes.

I'm surprised no-one has stood him & just gone wack. He's one I wouldn't have blinked, if Hall had nailed him instead.

Ah, I miss the Grinter days! Dermot, Woosha, Dippa, Lockett... PS: The Footy wasn't too shabby by the way, foot skills a little off today but the marks & free balling footy were Just awesome. You never knew what might happen next.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
