Who is sooking? I just have a long memory. I would never like to see any of our players sing Grand Old Flag like that. I find it disrespectful to the History of the players who have Represented the MFC.

James Kelly is a joke. He contributes little to nothing to Geelongs dominance and is expendible.

He should consider himself lucky to be in the team, and if he were playing for Melbourne his contribution would not have changed the outcome on Saturday at all.

harmless fun, that i would be a bit worried if our boys EVER do, there are plenty of ways to have fun at a footy club and alot of fun does happen, no need for them to "take the [censored]" out of winning, as we have found out over the last 3 years, winning should never be taken for granted

Dudes, is this thread for real. It's called having fun. Singing the team song after you've played a team that didn't even play 2 of it's best and is clearly buggered isn't likely to send shivers up your spine. Relax, nothing to see here. Kelly will come to regret that moment, because the video will be played endlessly and become part of the way other clubs rightly or wrongly see Geelong. It cannot help Geelong and I would say that Thompson regretted that it was caught on T.V so clearly.

You'll find that week-to-week very few teams field their best team, due to injury, or injury management, if you will.

With all the endurance testing the players did during the pre-season, wasn't Scully one of the best?? And now the coaching staff are 'managing' his work load because a trip to Geelong would tucker him out?!?!

It had nothing to do with fatigue, it was all about wrapping Scully and Trengove in cotton wool. If they want to be the best, they have to play against the best week in week out. Dean Bailey has been banging on all year about how we need to get games into the kids to develop them, but he decides to withdraw the two best youngsters in the comp because he is worried the trip to Geelong will tucker 'em out.

If you want to manage fatigue, you manage the minutes they spend on the field, not by withdrawing them from the lineup. They experience of playing the Cats this early on in their career would have been invaluable.

Yep. It's a running joke down there to see who can do the silliest thing during the song. Not something I ever want us to do but it's nothing for us to worry about when they do.

They were already "tuckered out"; the Darwin game took a hell of a lot out of both of them, and Bailey clearly decided it would be irresponsible to play them on the weekend. Yes, we want to get games into them, but not at the expense of their physical well-being.

I agree that they'd have learned alot from playing Geelong, but again, it's a matter of what takes precedence- I think they'll get more from missing Geelong and playing out the rest of the season than they would if they'd played Geelong and burned themselves out by round 15. Perhaps they should have been rested for the Darwin game instead of the Geelong game, but that's another argument altogether.

I still remember this clown kelly on a friday night at the G it might have been 2006, (it was the day in the wet when we won when davey kicked the goal from the boundary) when he blantly wanted to avoid body contact right near the players interchange we won the ball as a result the effort was one of the softest I have seen. He would be an ordinary player at any other side.

Anyone who saw what Kelly did as arrogance, or somehow disrespectful to the MFC is surely kidding themselves.

You watch any game of football, and nearly any game when the winning team sings the song, someone is stuffing around, trying to be funny.......fingers in ears, messing up each others hair, drinks getting splashed around etc etc.

I'd say for a team that has been as successful as he Cats in recent times, they have been remarkable humble, and respectful of their opponents.

Let's not be so simplistic as to look for a petty meaning in every little thing we see players do!

This is what I find funny (but not humorous) about these kinds of threads... all of a sudden everyone starts to dredge up all sorts of little stories that they believe justify the attacks on the offending player. All the guy did was engage in what is probably a "private" joke amongst team mates at the GFC and meant the MFC no disrespect at all.

Of course not, there are multiple Geelong players that if suffered an injury wouldnt greatly effect the team due to their depth.

James Kelly is a very good player who is playing a crucial role for the Cats.

His stopping job on small forwards is great week in week out - e.g. on Milne in last year's GF.

We need to find someone like him - currently Bartram is doing a good job but he's no Kelly.

He was fantastic against Collingwood just two weeks ago and would be high in Geelong's B&F this year.

It's Geelong business what he does during the song and I'd be surprised if they have any problems with it.
