We're the only team to have won all 5 fourth quarters (none of the remaining teams to play in Round 5 can match us).

Round 1 vs Hawthorn: 4.4 to 2.1

Round 2 vs Collingwood: 3.2 to 2.4

Round 3 vs Adelaide: 2.4 to 0.1

Round 4 vs Richmond: 5.2 to 4.3

Round 5 vs Brisbane: 3.6 to 0.2

Total: 17.18 (120) to 8.11 (59)

One thing that's really improved this year (among a lot of others) is our ability to run games out. We ran Brisbane off their feet yesterday. It's a great advantage to have I reckon.

Last year we won 10/22 fourth quarters.

These are impressive figures... however it also highlights our lack of goal power. In the last 3 games we had all the play in the fourth quarter but could not convert that dominance into goals on the board. Last night with 10 minutes left the Lions had all but stopped running and the floodgates should have opened up. Hopefully this will improve with experience and confidence and the inclusion of a few natural finishers in LJ and Wonna.

I agree and we also have recruited and developed a number of elite runners in our squad which also makes a massive difference.

Fitness and conditioning team deserve massive kudos for the teams fitness.......during the commentary Tony Shaw made note of how hard the team worked running back into the Lions 50 to set up the defensive zone, and made note of the "gut running" required to do that.

Our ability to run out games is a huge advantage!

The ins this year have made a big difference in this space.

Scully, Trengove, Bail, McKenzie (pretty much an in).

A few others have looked much fitter as well.

great work.

That's true, however of the three wins, only the Adelaide result was truly still up in the air. Richmond was done and dusted at 3/4 time, and Brisbane needed to kick 5 goals having only kicked 7 for the match to beat us. It'd certainly be nice to see us kicking even more, but I reckon we're doing fine the way it is, and as you say, once we get Jurrah, Wonna, even Watts back into the forward line goals will come even easier.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
