I'm uneasy if it's in the order you've listed.

As per their order matched against the order of the originating post......and FWIW, it's simply my opinion.

Grimes into his 3rd year is a running player off half back and may well be a star mid fielder in the future. His talents matched against Sylvia, who appears to be beginning to reach his true potential would be an interesting dual and a good learning curve for Jack. Frawley showed greater strength and poise in the key back roles last year. His work on Riewoldt, until moved in the last round was more than commendable. A great experience for both JW and Chipper. As others have said on another thread, many are hoping for bigger things from Dunny in 2010. He has strength and a match up on Bater would be a good test for him in my view. Warnock on Stef Martin for his strength. I see a lot of up side with Jamie Benell and with Wonna on the comeback trail and keen to put a lousy 2009 behind him, I think it would be a good test for both. Lastly, J Riv had his first season in a long time which was injury free, I would just like to see how his agility stands up against the Jurrahcane.

Remember we are talking about an intra club, as the question was posed. My opinion only, but happy to see what others think.

The way I would originally set up with that forward line is:

HF: Bate Watts Sylvia

F: Woenaeamirri Martin Jurrah

The match ups would be:

Martin - Warnock. He has the size and straight line speed to handle Martin. Martin is our most dangerous big bodied pack marking threat at the moment so should receive our best lock down tall defender.

Watts - Frawley. Frawley gives more run that Warnock, so we should look to exploit Watts' youth and lack of strength. Frawley should look to dominate Watts, and also has the speed to defend him.

Jurrah - Garland. Very important match up because Jurrah is our most dangerous forward at the moment. Garland has shown that he has the speed and his ability to play both small and tall is very important. Physical strength is not paramount, but athleticism is. Jurrah is a tough match up, so Garland i very important here.

Bate - Jo McDonald. Bate will push more up the ground in this forward line (with Martin present). Better to have a more of a runner on him and JoMac plays medium sized and uses the ball quite well as a rebounding half back. This wouldn't be in a dedicated shut down role, and run from defence will be important.

Sylvia - Grimes. You'd imagine that the amount of time spent inside 50 would be minimal, with Sylvia being a goal kicker in transition playing as an attacking midfielder. Grimes is strong enough overhead and who look to run off Sylvia and compete when they both move up the ground and Sylvia breaks forward.

Woenaramirri - Bennell. As Prendergast said, when you have small forwards making an impact you've got to draft player to play on them. Quick, agile, good user and decision maker, so use him in defence to help mop up and also defend Aussie.

I'm struggling to find a genuine match up for Rivers. His lack of speed would be a major issue against every one of those forwards you mentioned. If you felt that his influence in defence was such that his inclusion is absolutely non-negotiable, then I'd probably get him onto Watts (due to Watts' inexperience and lack of strength) and pray to hell that Watts didn't start finding the footy, move Frawley to Bate and McDonald on to Sylvia, with Grimes moving out.

Frawley on Watts.

Rivers on Bate.

Whoever I put on Jurrah will struggle. I think Bate might run Rivers ragged, might have to take Grimes out of centre for Bate. I think Wonna might have Bennell covered for speed, but Bennell is best option for now, cheney not quick enough for Wonna.

Sylvia : Cameron Bruce. Bigger engine, defensively very smart and has height and reach to counter Sylvia. Sylvia can be destructively damaging so Bruce's lock down skills plus his run will keep Sylvia honest and tire him out so his impact will be diminished later in the game.

Watts : Frawley. Got the speed to match him and strength to out position him. If he pushes up high. Col Garland can switch.

Jurrah : Garland. Seems a perfect match up. Can switch to Frawley.

Martin : Warnock. Size and speed to counter the big KPP.

Bate : Strauss. Can afford to play small as Bate isn't a high jumping over the head mark. Strauss got the speed to spoil on the lead and will hurt Bate on the rebound. Joel Mac is probably the most likely but I'll give Strauss a crack.

Wona : Bennell. Bennell is definitely quicker but Wona is smart and is good at finding/creating space. Will be a good battle.

Cale Morton to match Watts for athleticism and height.

Jared Rivers to take the most experienced Bate.

Spud Frawley probably the best pace for height option for Jurrah.

Warnock on The Big Stef.

Jamie Bennell to match up on Aussie and try and expose him defensively. Might leak a few goals, but equally damaging going the other way.

thats pretty good for mine.

i like the strauss idea on bate. it would be an interesting way to play on bate, because he roams around, giving hima big advantage over most tall backs, and the rebounding would hurt bate a bit if he tires out, a lot of his good work comes from running hard in offence.

if we ever had a match up like that on bate however, i would love to see bate pushed deep where his body size and strength should absolutely dominate. i realise he isnt a big overhead pack mark, but he has good hands out front and very good body strength and would give strauss a bath if stationary.

I'm not sold on Stef - reminds me of a slightly more agile Alistair Nicholson. Just don't see him as a Premiership player.
