With the policing, there's the aforementioned administrative blocks which are obviously limited, but a part of it is, if they ever come to the attention of crowd management, security and so on, there are significant fines that the ground can impose.

So it doesn't so much stop people from coming back again, but if they ever cause trouble again, WHAM.

As for the odd little personal diversion, consorship is very different to just telling people to get their hand off it. Someone who says they 'understand the rule of law better than most here' really ought to have a grip on precise language, no?

A ban is not entirely useless, especially with a big fine for breaking it. I wouldn't risk a big fine just to go to the footy, but then I spose I don't go around bashing people for no good reason either.

Howe does the AFL prevent a banned someone from attending an AFL game?

facial recognition technology is fantastic. the cameras that feed into the security office can get clear photos of anyone in the ground. so they can do it that way if they want, but it is probably expensive to utilise for something minor.

that being said, if he is banned from attending afl games at any of those venues and is caught there he could be arrested and fined for trespassing on private property. similarly if there is a court order saying as part of his sentence he cannot go to the footy then if caught he is in violation of a court order and can be fined/jailed.

there are more ways to enforce it than to actively police it, however if someone in this situation is caught the consequences can be tough, if the courts so desire.

makes me sick and sad to be reminded of this terrible incident, I hope he gets his appeal turned down. A low IQ and immaturity are no excuse for bashing someone in front of their family for no reason.
