I think some of Trengove's most impressive play, especially in stoppages, is shown in the James Craig footage on the Draft Machine.

I agree. That 40m pass coming out of the backline at 2:45 was incredible.

Agreed. Far too many of his kicks were to contests or to an opponent's advantage. I've only seen limited footage, so I can't really judge but I don't think I've seen a long pass hit a teammate cleanly in any of his highlight packages. Could be the factor that costs him the no. 1 spot.

I'm excited with Scully... i foresee him being a much more talented, faster and skilled version of Daniel Cross (who i rate extremely highly).

I always thought Crossy could have been a top10 in the afl kind of player if he could kick the footy, n had sharper pace. Now I'll only have to look at Scully.

Scully's in and under work and handpassing will be renowned as being the best in the afl in 2-3 years i reckon.

I'd be getting Strauss to help him out with his long distance kicking when we get him down to the MFC.

Based on that footage, the long kicks (or most of the long kicks) appeared not to hit the targets. However, is it entirely his kicks the reason why they didn't hit the targets ?

From what I have seen of him in other footage and live, I don't hold any concerns about penetration. Does Brent Harvey have penetration in his kicks ?

I hope I'm not being biased, but I seriously think Scully has the closest football brain to Chris Judd that I have seen. His ability/awareness to be able to play on after a mark/free kick, and even to be able to judge what tackles he can break is very similar to Judd. What will he be like playing in the AFL where it's quicker and the bodies are bigger? Well, he shows all the signs he will be able to handle it straight away. Obviously he wont win the Brownlow next year, but I could seriously see him playing 16+ games in his first season, then the sky's the limit after that.

Not sure I can really compare Trengove to any current/recent players. Hird maybe, just in the way that it doesn't matter where he is on the field, he attracts the ball and does uses it well.

No. You're not the only one. This has been broughtup a number of times around the traps.

I think you might be guilty though of wanting TOO much from your pick #1. They can't all be perfect, and if playing the percentages and kicking long to a contest when there's nothing else on is his biggest fault, then he's doing pretty well. I reckon Scully might end up making his mark a long way from our attacking fifty anyway. And when spotting up a target coming out of defence, suddenly his kick seems faultless.

A very small concern, and one that could be fixed/minimalised by making different choices.

My only other concern with both these kids is how different playing in the AFL will be. Scully breaks a lot of tackles in the league's we've seen him in, but it's going to be a while before he's big enough to break the tackles of AFL players. (and an NRL player)
