Since it seems that half the posts in the McLean thread are about this rumour as well, why not give it its own space?

So what do people think on this one? What factors will influence the decision? How much money do we throw at him if he is thinking about leaving?

Personally, while I think we could cover his loss on the field, I would be really worried about the cohesion of our indigenous group. He really is a leader and mentor for them, as well as now being the oldest player in the bunch. This could hurt us long term far more than just the loss of a skillful player.

Simply give him The Captaincy & sell him the dream of raising the Holy Grail in 3 - 4 years time.

I cant believe the people thinking we could cover the possible loss of Davey!

He was Bloody amazing this year and is improving parts of his game onfield and off every year!!!!

I have tried to twitter Shwabby a number of times to put our minds at ease and to say Davey is going nowhere as he has a number of times if people ask him the same question he answers it! Anyone who has twitter should do the same and see if he replies.

If Davey leaves i will be VERY VERY VERY mad

any player that is not as excited as most of the supporters are about the good prospects this club has in 4-6 years time can leave. Chooka's body is half baked now, when Melbourne become good he is going to be even slower and likely have more injuries (if possible) so let him go, Flash wont go anywhere everyone is just on edge and jumping at shadows...

Funny, I did the same thing. He has put in a general comment about it being a stressful day, but nothing about Davey. Coud mean that negotiations are ongoing and he can't comment right now.

From Twitter:

"CamSchwabBeen a tough day. One that tests AFL administrators/coaches and supporters for that matter. Sincerely wish Brock all the best. Go Dees."

haha yep i think if he gets more and more questions from fans he is going to have to say at least something :P

Bloody hope its not true, ill be very upset if it is-

Judging by the bigfooty post a few days ago though with someone having a few drinks with Connolly at the brownlow-

He said that we will be getting another first round pick! Check

Davey and Wonna was having a great time around Connolly and were excited about next season, Davey saying Jurrah is better than Buddy! :)

Connolly said they are working on a 3 year deal for Jurrah as we speak

I just dont see why Davey would want to leave after doing recruiting for us, stepping up as a leader for us and improving his game every year with us?

I tried to look up that bigfooty post before but i cant see it anymore? lol

I mentioned this in one of the other threads, but what do people think of us making a play for Alwyn? One of the claims is that Aaron wants to play with his brother and we now have a spare top 20 pick. Could 18 be enough to get him away from the Bombers?

I just followed you and a few others that seem like dee fans,....check recent followers and follow me...

I like Alwyn as a player, but we don't require a small forward as such, so it would be irresponsible to go after him purely for those reasons. Im confident Aaron will stay.

think its a good idea, bamboozled as to why we didnt draft him a few years back, someone who isnt drinking tonight might be able to tell me who we did select that year. also last year there were murmours of this happening

Do you see him as only a small forward? He is fast and elusive. Could be a very good outside mid for us. Of course, that just adds another player to the glut of mids we have coming up...

Does any one remember the way C.J left the club and the way he was sent of by D.B... In a Flash there will more departures...

F%^ no?

Please no!!!!!!!

Are you deliberately indicating something there????

This better not be a hint dafacat.

Spit it out. What do you know?

If Davey leaves I will be seriously concerned.

I herd Davey to Collingwood. But I'm not even going to believe it and usually get good mail.

I think I am going to vomit...

I can't see Davey leaving, but then I couldn't see Brock leaving either.

Davey has had a huge amount going on behind the scenes with his indigenous development efforts. He's doing huge things for the club, and is well and truly entrenched with the surrogate family of indigenous players. Surely that would be enough to keep him with us? I doubt he'd be able to get more money at a good club. We have more room to maneuver than most in that regard.

If Davey leaves it will be an ever bigger PR disaster than it would be a football disaster, not to mention the possible impact it'll have on Aussie and Jurrah (anyone else thinking that Aussie may not have signed yet as he's waiting to see what happens with Davey?? :o)

Get your [censored] together Melbourne, and don't undo all the great work of the past 2 seasons.

Ok i will not reveal my source - you would not believe it... The very same source has said the following .. Davey wants out - to play with his brother, the players as a group have no idea what the game plan is and there is much anger about the C.J send off. I know i will not be believed but it was the same conversation about brock. We will have to work hard to keep Flash.

[censored] joking.

Play with his brother? Professional sportsman? Surely he wouldn't leave

Frightening thought. Davey is much more to the club than just a great player. His loss could be devastating. Throw the checkbook at him to get him to stay I'd say. Perhaps arrange for a captaincy after Junior retires.

i knew that flash part had a bit of irony in it, but what about the situation with the other indigenous boys, surely he cant leave them behind.

Other than the connection with his fellow indigenous players I've got no problem with Davey leaving if there's adequate compensation. Davey raised his level this year, but I've never seen him perform in a big game and have never been his biggest fan.

Would prefer to keep though. Mind you, it won't be easy for him to get to Essendon. The bad press would be the biggest issue in my mind.

Also, because your source had one piece of accurate information doesn't mean I'll get carried away by all your assertions. Someone with an axe to grind may have been on the money once, which for the gullible suddenly gives all of their views credibility. And this is often what the informant seeks.

For all I know it's you who have an axe to grind. I'll not be too worried about Davey leaving.

Agreed, this isn't a f'ing family reunion hour, this is professional sport.

Davey has four brothers at the Melbourne Football Club who need his guidance and support. If he leaves, it would be pretty poor management on our behalf IMO.

What's the contract situation with Davey?

Surely there's camaraderie between the players and for the club beyond the coach.

Perhaps we'll wind up giving either 11 or 18 for Alwyn to come to us.

How is this panic? The fact that every player that plays for the demons is almost like family. We pay money to watch them play for this great club.

Especially Brock who many thought was a leader and passionate player for the dees.

Someone tells you that Aaron davey is leaving right after his just proven to be right about brock, well some feeling of concern has every right to be shown.

That is the number one reason to keep Davey.

I don't think our future premiership depends on Davey's on field performance, but if he helps Aussie, Bennell, Jetta and most importantly Jurrah, than his worth is that of four players.

Davey is the best link our club has to these boys, we just can't afford to lose him.

Jaded, I'll give you Jurrah and maybe Aussie.

But I won't give you Bennel or Jetta.

Jurrah might be worth it himself though. I'm also realising how little I actually did care about Mclean. As soon as the idea of losing Davey came about it's all I've thought about.

Trade too many players and lose the fabric of the club and the side, we wil fail, DB is failing, MFC is failing. Pray it stops.

Aussie was Davey's date to the Brownlows FFS, those two are very very close.

Bennell and Jetta might not be as dependent on Davey, but there is no doubt that Davey (and in previous years Whelan) has helped these indigenous boys when they first arrived at the club.

Either way you're right, we need to do whatever it takes to keep Jurrah happy

If Aussie would leave the club for Davey leaving, then there are serious issues over him.

Will he not be able to play if Davey doesn't?

Completely agree with this.

Unless he tried to go at him with a baseball bat, it sounds a little over the top and if true, the players should step out of the bellarina costumes and harden up.

Stuff like that would happen at my old footy clubs and it would only serve to strengthen you to your club. Johnson came back after he'd already asked to leave, it's not like he played for the club and Bailey told him to f.off and then CJ left.

Just couldn't see Davey doing it (though I said the same about Brock). He already lives in the same city as his brother and has played at the Dees for over 5 seasons as a club's favourite son. He has an important role as a mentor and is a respected leader at the club.

If he was to leave, I would have serious concerns.

This goes far beyond football ability and you know that.

These indigenous boys who come from remote territories are all supremely talented but sometimes have their careers stall because they struggle to adjust to the lifestyle and the separation from their community.

Aussie will remain the same player with or without Davey, but he may struggle to remain in Victoria and live this lifestyle without the support of his brothers. We might not understand that, but it's a bond that has really helped Davey, Aussie and obviously Jurrah.

Yeah I understand that Jaded.

I'll restate my position. I'm not giving you Bennel and Jetta. Benny and the Jets have each other and will be fine.

And Aussie and Jurrah will be fine because Davey is not leaving this club.

Surely he'd have to have a degree of loyalty to the club that gave him a chance? I know I would. He'd been passed over as too small and only one club was willing to give him a shot. That's got to be a factor now that he's shown what he can do.

If that's true then we are farked

I don't want too believe, Not Davey !! If this happens we have very deep problems !!

This is getting a little scary ATM.

If this is because of the coach, then surely the players can go over his head and talk to the president and sort something out, or get some reassurances.

I just cant understand why he wants to leave, it cant be because he thinks he may not get a run in the midfield, as it stands we don't really have one. Then to got to a club like carlton which has one of the best and probably one of the hardest to crack into just does not sit with me.

I will cop it for this, but..... We may need to review the coaching position

Well i hope we use this pick sensibly. Scully and Trengrove 1&2, A tall KPP (maybe tallia or Carlisle) with pick 11, and maybe trade 18 and a player for lovett or burgoyne if posible.

Would be devastated if the Davey rumor is true though.

The absurdity of this - are you guys THAT stupid??

Why would Schwab come out and 'put your mind's at ease' when it is completely out of his hands? He cannot speak for Aaron Davey, and even Davey himself cannot say that in 2 weeks time things won't have changed dramatically at the club and he'll want to leave.

And if Davey is leaning towards it, the last thing Schwab is going to do is come out and confirm.

Honestly, you people...

If we could trade for a top 20-25 pick (eg. Miller and Valenti to Sydney for Pick 22). We could on trade that + Dunn to the Bombers for Alwyn. Dunn is an Aberfeldie boy and needs his opportunity elsewhere. I like him as a player and would like to see him do better.

OR

Davey and Jamar to Port for Pick 7 & 9. Ha Ha!

Picks 1, 2, 7, 9, 11, 18 (Everitt)

Woo Hoo!

Yep, I agree. Also were trying to get players who can kick well & quick, must keep.

Last week I had a conversation with someone as high up as it gets at the MFC.

Anyway we were talking about the benefits of getting Burgoyne to the dees. (At the time he was hopeful not confident of getting him, strictly implying that we wouldn't trade for him, the only way he was coming was the PSD).

I mentioned that if we got Burgoyne, Davey could quite possibly take his game to another level. He agreed and continued to talk about Davey in a glowing manner.

Based on this conversation nothing he said alluded me to the fact Davey would be leaving.

Dafatcat had this news before anyone, and alluded to Davey being another who wanted out.

This poster then went on to say that the 'game plan' of DB was to blame (who hasn't heard that old chestnut - I think m064 and Mono ran through that one in 2008), and the treatment of CJ had the players up-in-arms.

I don't know whether dafatcat knows a player, or an agent but this smells of an agenda.

And for those who have forgotten what happened with CJ - He rocked up to training in his MFC garb taking part in the drills after making the decision to quit the club. The FD got wind of the fact that the decision was made and DB told him to eff off if he didn't want to be at the club anymore.

Tactless for sure, but if you have decided to leave an organisation you should inform your employers immediately and not act as if nothing had changed by attending meetings with colleagues you do not want to work with anymore.
