Morabito's decision making, kicking and even his hand passing is very questionable. He hardly hit a target by foot or hand and in several situations made just awful decisions with the ball.

He has speed and strength but i think is half the player Trengove is...

Gary Rohan and Dustin Martin are way in front of Morabito in my eyes, still he looks better than Butcher. I think Butcher will be a big slider this year. Last weekend he was pretty bad. very one dimensional

They've devised a new kicking drill for draft camp. If Morabito is that bad he'll flunk the test and probably slide down in contention. We'll see.

I'm fascinated by this whole kicking test things. I'm also very sceptical.

Does it somehow challenge the kicker to kick under pressure? Is it only intended to show whether a player can kick stright on each leg accurately WITHOUT pressure?

If so, I have a feeling those results will be a bit skewed and probably will only confuse regular fans and recruiters more. If a player kicks accurately (say 90% and up) in the test, but is a bad decision maker or is a bit of a squib under pressure, then it's going to make for false statistics.

I suppose that's true of many of the tests in the camp. Beep tests don't allow for getting heavy hits, jumping tests don't allow for contested situations, agility tests don't allow for courage at the ball.

I don't mean to be pessimistic. I'm glad they got Buckley to come in and give it a try. I'm just not sure it'll be all that useful at the end of the day. I think it still really only matters what you see a kid do on the field.

The test is designed to put them under some degree of pressure.

Can look on AFL Website for video and link, but basically:

Theres 6 circles, 3 on left, 3 on right. - Long, Medium and Short

The player initially faces away from the circles and moves towards the caller. Theres a line at a certain point and the caller tells him the target, e.g. Left Medium

The player must then continue, turn around the cone and kick it towards a player in that circle. Ranked 5, 4, 3, 2 or 1 based on accuracy and speed, spin etc.

Designed to give indication of footwork, disposal, speed of disposal etc.

I'm amazed that it has taken this long for them to start testing kicking skills.

Either way there is bound to be some kind of pressure when taking the kicking test, won't 16 clubs be watching the invitees? and as well their results could ultimately determine whether they get drafted or not.

Also from what i have seen, Morabito's skills look alright, but yes there is some room for improvement with his disposal. You cant pass morabito off that easily. He is a unique kind of player, he has pace, strength, height, is a booming kick, and has versatility, which seems to have been a common theme in our recent draftees. atm i reckon the club is 65% trengove, 35% morabito, but a final decision will be made after draft camp depending on the player's interviews and athletic results etc.

Your spot on DD. Growing up playing a lot of hoops, I come across plenty of guys who were great shooters in drill situations and even in on court scrimmaging at training, but once in the heat of a game under higher intensity and pressure, not so great.

From all the footage I can find of Mora, it is hard to find him hitting a target by foot or even putting it to a players advantage. Most of the time he kicks too long or puts the defender at no disadvantage.

Your partly right, but the thing that our clubs recruiters will be ascertaining is how good these players will be with 3 or 4 years of developement put into them.

we need certain stars with picks 1 and 2. not a project player. I don;t understand the argument that players are still learning the game at 18 years old. sure they need to learn game plans and the pace of league footy but if they can't kick by now or don't have a natural ability to read the game or know where to kick or how to kick to advantage by now i don't think they will ever be able to.

Morabito seems the higher risk-greater return proposition, whereas Trengove is the safer bet.

I suppose the decision may come down to whether we believe that the safe bet in Scully allows us to take a risk with Morabito, or whether we just don't feel we're in a position to blow pick 2 away on someone who can go either way.

Trengove seems to be doing everything right at the moment, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything at this stage. This time last year Rich was considered to go top 3, and for now it appears that Brisbane hit the jackpot.

agree totally. At this stage Trengrove is far in front. Martin a smokie though.Butcher out of the question for mine

Have only seen Morabito and Trengove on youtube.

Morabito looks a one-trick-pony to me. Runs hard at the ball, gets it, and then kicks it long without looking where it's going...

Trengove on the other hand looks just as courageous but with a footy brain and is a good kick.

Morabito just seems too much of a risk to me. Maybe he'll end up a Darren Milllane type, or maybe he'll turn out to be just another early developed man amongst boys whose trick won't work so well against blokes his own size and development...

What clips were you watching? He just grabs the ball and kicks long to no real advantage of his team mates most of the time. have not once seen him hit a leading target or even put the ball in the advantage of a team mate. look away handballs that miss the target and selfish play that cost his team a goal. Trengove all the way!

I see no risk with Morabito. He will be a gun. X factor does not mean risk or inconsistent, although for some reason people equate these characteristics.

I watched the Championships at the Dome and that night I watched the replays on IQ. The amount you miss on the television and the different perspective you glean is extraordinary.

Dude, I'm like just leaning to the Tren, but think Mora is way worthy of like being on our list. And I like them both cos like I've seen them like live.

I think we'll need a 3 sided coin to flip between Trengove, Morabito and Martin.

I'd be happy with any of the 3- for now. In 3 years time I'll probably be ruing our decision.
