Sportsbet have already paid out on Rich winning the Rising Star, but they are running a book on who will come second.

Andy Otten (Adelaide) $2.50

Stephen Hill (Fremantle) 3.50

Tayte Pears (Essendon) 9.00

Chris Masten (West Coast) 11.00

Patrick Dangerfield (Adelaide) 12.00

Jack Grimes (Melbourne) 14.00

Callan Ward (Western Bulldogs) 14.00

Dayne Beams (Collingwood) 16.00

Jarryn Geary (St Kilda) 16.00

Compared to Otten (18.2), Hill (15.5) and Dangerfield (12.9), Grimes (20.6) has them covered in average possessions per game. Masten has 21, but 11 of those are handballs and only averages 2 marks compared to Grimes' 8. The only area where he will struggle is that he has only played 11 games...

But still great value at $14

Otten will definitely come second.

Pears could be a smokey. Takes the best forward each week and has done a great job. Typically backmen don't get the votes but he would be a deserved 2nd place getter. No to grimes, like you said he has not played enough games.

Am happy with Grimes over any player on that list, but he will not come second.

Good to see some punting information on the site for the few interested parties.....maybe Grimes for the trifecta! B)

Am happy with Grimes over any player on that list, but he will not come second.

thinking the same thing when i came across ur post..

knowing he was a dees supporter coming into the club has kinda made him an instant fav..

one of us, playing for us.. (that is besides the fact he's a gun, of course)

hill @ $3.50 would be my runner up tip.

Put your house on Andy Otten to come runner up....

If there wasn't so much hype on Rich and Otten played for Collingwood, then Otten would smash the Rising Star award.....

Has had a fantastic year.... Quality player!

Of that lot, I'm happy we've got Grimes. He will end up equal or better than everyone else on that list.

But Otten or Pears will come second.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
