Barry Hall?

Seriously this guy has a body which is not breaking down and he could be a bit of protector for a few of the forwards for a few years.

If he is available I would take him in a flash.

Dees need some mongrel and he would se the tone.

I can only assume you are joking.

Why?? Do you have the monopoly on crazy stuff?

He is a talented forward and has been a premiership captain, leading goalkicker and genuine physical threat on the field. Who do we have who seriously makes people nervous on the field?

With the draft being biased in the next few years to the GC and WS, why not?

Personally if Barry hall decided that he were to play on next year at another club i doubt it would be melbourne, hed probably see it as a waste of time.

Because monster full forwards are dropping from the sky.

Let me ask you, who would you rather Hall or Newton?

neither.

We have Watts, Martin and Jurrah who will all be ready to make an impact after another preseason.

And Garland may be used forward.

If free agency was around then yes, as you could build a team of aging stars to sneak a flag ( boston celtics ) But as it stands we would have to either offload a pick or get him in the PSD, which may be to expensive.

Personally I see no benefit at all in bringing in a bloke who will be finished by the time our window of opportunity is open again. You might even argue he's already finished. If we were any hope of challenging for a flag next year I might've considered it, but we're not.

The 'protecting the kids' argument is nothing but a huge cliche IMO. That's not a reason to recruit someone, and I doubt anyone's ever been brought in to a club on that basis. The 'we need mongrel' argument falls in to a similar category.

Pass from me.

Bails already said on SEN he wouldnt take him.. plus Baz wouldnt want to play his last year/s for a bottom team id think

barry hall was getting frustrated at sydney imagine what he would do with some of the delivery we dish up he would probably bash his team mates

Pass thanks.

However, I do think that GFC, no not the financial crisis, rather the club, would be MAD not to take Hall.

They are a key forward away from another flag. Mooney just isnt the man and Tomahawk, well......

I shudder at the thought of Geelong with a capable key forward TBH.

I shudder to think of the implications for the GFC when Barry inevitably loses his [censored] and punches someone in the head again.

The Bulldogs may take the risk for the year, to try and win it, but Geelong really don't need him even if their forwardline is a little suspect.

The MFC doesn't want Barry Hall,

Barry Hall doesn't want the MFC.

The Bulldogs will be the only suitor, and I doubt that will happen.

I dont think Barry Hall should be so quickly dismissed.

MFC needs a capable forward in the next 2 years to show the young guys how the job should be done. He does have a good record as a FF (leads out and demands football as well as one on one wrestle for the ball). Theres no doubt there is a risk of his behaviour being a problem again, its just a case of risk vs reward (think cousins and richmond)

I dont believe he would be around when melbourne has a true chance to go for the flag. The obvious question would then be how much to pay for how long? Is he capable of teaching watts/Jarrah/Newton to play as top line forwards?

I think he could be a very valuable asset for 2 years but top dollar/draft picks are not worth it.

Clearly YM does not but he has a majority stake in it.

You getting carried away with the tough man bull---- .

Agree with all of that.

Would they have room in the salary cap?

What? Worse than sub prime mortgages!

Seriously, its a valid concern. His last act on Rutten was unprovoked, off the play, no pressure and clear decision to hit someone. He decided to cross the line. Bulldogs may gamble but he is the ultimate caveat emptor.

No point bringing in a forward with barely a season left in him, especially when we've got guys like Watts and Juruh with so much potential for the future. Hall can't do us any good.

No to Hall and MFC.

Not so Rhino. He was elbowed to the head. No media hysteria or even a citing on that one though.

Jaded: "..when Barry inevitably loses his [censored] and punches someone in the head again."

There are players with far worse records than Hall. He has 3 striking charges over his long career.

Hall had time to consider his action and he made his choice despite the legacy and the implications. It was a sad action that cant be mitigated by the elbow incident. Hell, stacks of footballers cop high hits and dont react in that fashion.

Even Hall and the Swans know its an indefensible and stupid action.

Spot on nasher ;)

Absolutely Rhino. Still doesn't mean 'His last act on Rutten was unprovoked'

i would not like to see him at the mfc in a jumper, however he may be some use to the forwards at the club in the way scotty west has been.

I can see more value in putting Bazza in a boxnig ring with Watts for the summer than having him play.

He admits himself to having no control over his temper.

He is into his thirties well and truly.

He is not the player he was.

He would not be respected by our young players.

Bails doesn't want him either.

We are committed to a side rebuilt with youth.

We wont challenge for a high finals position for at least 2 years.

Other clubs know how to get him in!!!!

IMO not worth the gamble and I can't stand his selfish attitude at the expense of his team mates efforts around him.
