Just want to kick this one off by saying that I haven't been as confident of a win in a game since the last time we played the Eagles at home.

I'm just off to see if I fit in any Melbourne jumpers I have at home (long time since I've worn one) and I expect all true Demons to be there today and enjoy the win. In fact it would be bloody disappointing in light of what's happened this week if we can't get a big crowd of Demon fans in today!

I don't think that should discredit the win. MAYBE Kerr was rested when he would have otherwise played, but it's a mute point because he's been ordinary all season.

As soon as West Coast stepped on the field, I'm sure they were playing to win.

They got within 20 points in the 4th qrt, and were fighting hard.

It's hard to read much into this game. We had to win given the build up. No Cox or Kerr and then losing Jones early in the match certainly didn't help the West Coast cause. I think McLean, Jones and Moloney showed that they'll be important in the future as long as they're not all in the middle together. Jamar has played 3 rippers this year and has genuinely taken a step. If Grimes steps into the midfield as we're all hoping and Scully (should we get him) impacts as expected and Sylvia and Davey maintain their current form, our midfield will be solid. Blease, Strauss, Bennell and pick 2/3 rounds out a good midfield combination. Garland returning to an already solid defensive 6 and Watts and Jurrah maturing to lead our forward 50 and we're going to win some games over the next few years. We've just got to remain patient and understand that this group will get younger again next year and inconsitent performances will be a given.

This takes "we're not getting carried away with the win" way too far. We wanted us to show something and they did. I'm more interested with how they performed as a team.

They showed they can tackle & apply defensive pressure, even in the forward line.

They showed they can move the ball with skill & purpose, even under pressure.

They showed they can do the team things and the 1%ers and break packs and break lines.

My fear was that it would be a scrappy low standard game and we would scrape a lucky win because of their inaccurate kicking. But it was a good standard game (when did they last get 17 goals?) and they looked very very good a lot of the time today. The senior guys stood up, the younger guys stood up.

Even if they show nothing for the rest of the year, at least we now they are capable of it. At 1.30 this afternoon 2010 looked pretty grim. Now it doesn't.

How would you have felt if we'd lost?

I would have been bloody disappointed given that our coach and members of the team publically talked about playing for Jim. That's why we had to win.

I'm not downplaying the way in which we went about it. There were many positives. Grimes and Jurrah have proven to me that they have what it takes to be meaningful members of a premiership 22. Our key defenders were awesome and Jamar has shown that he has taken a significant step in his development. McLean responded after a shocker last week and Sylvia continues to shine. I was merely referring to the quality of our opponent. West Coast were missing their two biggest stars, were a rotation down all day and haven't won on the road in their last 17 attempts.

So was this a glimpse at what the Bailey Game Plan looks like? In the next few years are we going to see fast switches from one wing to the other and rapid movement once the zone has been bypassed? If so, I think we have cause for some real optimism.

West Coast's midfield was shite today, and we smashed it in the ruck, hence we won the midfield battle.

What today showed, is that if we can get the midfield up and running to the point where we are able to compete against real quality, then we'll be right to go, because we have the cattle at both ends of the ground (minus Watts and Aussie up forward and Garland down back!) to manufacture a win.

Today was also a really good show of Bailey's game plan.

For the first time this year, we were the hunters. We went out there and we were the ones applying all the pressure, meaning we could control the tempo and movement of the ball. So for the first time in two years, we were able to move the ball quickly using a combination of short kicks/handballs and then the long kick inside 50 (or a goal from outside 50), our half forwards pushed back at the right time, ensuring we always had a forward target to kick to, we played the wings and the corridors equally well. In short, we did not look like the dumbest collection of players ever put together on a football field.

Oh and Grimes officially became a star :D

One of my least comfortable days at the footy WJ. My jumper was last on my frame about 25 years & at even more kilograms ago. Needed a bloody shoehorn to get it off when I got home!
