My Carlton mate tells me, they hope to play him at centre half forward and put the hack Cloke in the ruck. But with their mids, the tap may not be vital, but marking targets inside 50 will be. They hope Kreuzer will provide the other tall marking target.

I like the sound of him having excellent core strength and that he holds his feet. These are the characteristics that impressses me about Geelong and how they maintain their feet when tackled.

I will be happy so long as we DON'T use our early draft selections (at least the first 4) for another 'utility' (read not convincing at any one position but too good to be let go so they are keep on the list to try and fill holes. Wheatley, Bruce, Bate, Dunn, Bartram and probably Buckley).

I understand the argument about good average mids being 'a dime a dozen', and agree, but I also think that elite mids are 'rare as hens teeth' and are clearly a level above the 'good average'.

We also desperately need another KP forward that has the size to develop into a genuine power forward.

All things being equal, if Scully is a clear No. 1 I would not hesitate to take him and then the best tall thereafter (if we have picks one and two of course), unless of course the best tall is ranked well behind a handful of other players.

The strategy of drafting the best player available is a sound 'conservative' approach with probably a higher rate of success than drafting for type. However, Hawthorn (yes them again) drafted for type in 2007 (Rioli and Dew) and look what happened. It could be argued that drafting for type has a far greater upside for the team but with more risk of failure.

Watching the game as it's rapidly changed over the last 3/4 years, I wonder now that the trend/advantage is with the pacy mobile midfielders.

I couldn't help but feel that the saints were indeed top heavy Friday Night & only fell over the line.

They were cracking under the relentless pressure applied by Carltons ability to cause contests out of Saints held ball, & get numbers to the contests. The Blue baggers have a huge amount of growth in that team to come & we DEES will be trying to compete with them in years to come. We are IMO way behind their mids at this stage lacking mids who win the contested ball & Have Pace.

Personally I would've taken Cotchin. No question. The kid will in a brownlow imho

im sorry but 192cm is the worst height. its almost undraftable. Sure there are some great players that are around 192cm..but alot of the time they are simply caught out for being too small for a key position and too crap for a midfielder. just look at bate and dunn.

It is an awkward height, I agree.

However isn't Morton 193? I would say that for this day and age, an athletic player at 192-193 would be worthwhile getting.

But I agree, gone are the days of the bustling Mathew Lloyds. Bate is far too big and slow. Dunn is just shizen.

Would Waite for Carlton be around that height? He is a good athletic mobile player.

U18s: SA ends Vic Country's run

SOUTH Australia has ended Vic Country’s unbeaten run at the NAB AFL Under-18s Championships with an upset 51-point win at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.

The home side led from start to finish in a masterful display of wet-weather football.

The Croweaters, through the help of usual suspects Jack Trengove, Alex Carey and Hayden Jolly, kicked four goals to one in the opening term to lead by 15 points at the first break.

The rain set in during the second quarter, but it failed to derail South Australia.

Taite Silverlock and Matthew Panos combined for five majors as the underdogs piled on seven goals straight for the term.

Goals to Vic Country duo David Astbury and Josh Cowan helped the visitors save some face, but the margin was still 43 points at the main break.

The weather subsided in the third quarter, but only two goals were added to the scoreboard and the South Aussies held onto a 44-point break at the final change.

Strong marking forward Andrew Hooper got Vic Metro off to a good start with a goal in the opening minutes of the last quarter, but a fourth to Panos snuffed out any hope of a comeback.

What is the point in listing the ones that don't make it? How about listing all the ones that are 186cm and don't make it? or the ones that are 181cm that don't make it?

Having watched lots of Anthony in the juniors and now at 18s/reserves level .. he reminds me so much of Jarrod Waite.

He's agile, tall, lanky ... and has a bag of some rather incredible tricks (sometimes he tries too hard though lol)

However, untill he gets his kicking technique right .. he will drop down come the draft.
