We were seriously out classed today by a flying Collingwood on a massive stage, which they love.

Too many young kids, too many turnovers, the back line wasnt tight at all, and we had no forwards. Thats why we lost the game mate.

Can we please not go down the path of having shots at DB when we get pumped. Cos theres probably a few more to go yet.

In a year and a half, he's shown no evidence of being a good matchday coach, nor an ability to inspire the team.

The Bailey apologists can't use an interupted preseason or injuries as an excuse this year. I wonder what excuses they'll come up with now.

Rebuilding. That is the word. This is the first year of that rebuilding. Last year didn't count because the list was still infected with Daniher's duds. Slowly cleaning them out and slowly pulling them in. Hence a 3-4 year plan.

It's one game, against a team that is flying, on the big stage, of which hardly any of our players have played on.

I'm not convinced Bailey's up to it and I think the club made a mistake appointing a nobody rather than an experienced senior coach or a fresh face who actually could play the game well at the highest level.

However, he's 33 games into a 66 game contract. Today marked the half way point of his deal. If in 12 months time - after the young guys have another season under their belts - the club still put out performances like that then I suspect the only option will be to dispense of him at the end of 2010 and find someone else. But he's got another 18 months, really 2010 is when the club need to judge what he's done this year and last.

Morton J.Watts M.Bate A.Maric J.Bennell K.Cheney, all these kids in a big game. Bring back Carroll, Godfrey, Luke Williams, doggy Brown, Wardy, Holland, White, Yze, etc, to play the big ones for us.

When I saw the title of the thread I knew you'd be spouting your dribble. I'll tell you what let us down today and it wasn't the coach. Our forward line is led by Junk time Robertson who should be shelved immediatly for bringing the club into disrepute. After that we have no forward line. Our supposed leaders in JMac and Bruce are pale shadows of their now distant best. Our midfield was made to look one paced (slow) and we don't have an AFL standard ruckman. That doesn't leave all that much for a coach.

On the plus side I thought Grimes continued his impressive development. Sylvia is finally performing at the level he is capable of on a regular basis. Davey continues to have his best year. I think Bate, Warnock, Cheney, even Maric all showed enough for me to remain hopeful. We massively overhyped the game which gave Collingwood all the ammunition they needed to hit us hard, which they did. To right off the coach is absurd to a level thankfully only seen by a few posters on this sight, led ably by our man Mo. Now lets move on to Tom Sc.......

Mate go and look at the tapes of last years games and come back here and try again. He now has a younger list than what he started with.

Probably best to refrain from calling people names, particularly when the evidence suggests that what you are saying is plain wrong.

What we need is our young players like Grimes, Maric and Watts to get thier hands on the footy more and Bruce, Bell and Johnson to get it less.

I like bails and i think we made the right decision when appointing him.

What i dont like is everyone saying we are such a young squad bla bla ..yes we are but i think malthouse said in his pressi that the pies were actually collectively as a team 5 years younger or something along those lines.

Embarrassingly stupid thread. We've shown immeasurable improvement from last year, but are a team made up of teenagers, with no forward targets to speak of. The fact that we've been competitive in most of our games this year says something about Bailey's ability to develop a list.

It's too early to say whether or not he's a good coach, but he's showed all the right signs so far, and anyone who thinks otherwise purely on the strength of todays game, needs to take a breath and get things into perspective. Our list still has a long way to go, and unfortunately, you'll get the odd game like this. But compare it to this time last year -when we were losing by todays margin regularly, and 100+ point beltings were more common than wins- and tell me we havnt improved.

I'm as disappointed as anyone, but Jesus Christ, a bit of perspective wouldnt go astray.

So whats the solution to that mate get another coach, start the cycle again? Was he out coached in the first quarter no he was not, were the players second to the ball and lacking intent HELL YES Get of his back mate seriously how bout pinpointing some senior players for criticism rather than the coach.

In a way all this criticism is a complement to DB's coaching over the last 11 weeks.

It shows how well he has done and what we expect of him and the team. One bad game big deal.

Mousey, I didnt hear it so I might be wrong, but I'd say Malthouse was talking about the average age of the playing list. He might technically be right, but it's a bit misleading. Say Team A consists almost totally of 26 year old players, with two or three under 21s, whereas Team B is full of under 21 year olds but has five 30+ year olds- chances are Team A are at their peak and will be more experienced and stronger than Team B, who are well and truly in development mode. But, on paper, Team A could easily, on average, be a "younger side".

The formula also doesnt take into account the degree to which an individual player is relied on, e.g. the Bombers are a very young side on average, but have some key players close to retirement.

Their average age might be younger, but in anyones language, Melbourne are a much younger side than Collingwood.
