Hmmmm, another chance for a Tassie Team? They seem to have a serious case! (I would never change aleigences but would definitely have a soft spot for them)

My bet is the AFL will never bow, which disappoints me alot.

Consider this highly speculative notion.

With the advent of GC17 and Sydney West would that put our club and pehaps West Coast and freo being the teams to really benefit from the last proper drafts fror many a year.

Many here have considered the compromised draft as a negative. I see it as a positive as it will mean that our club was the one to bottom out in the three years preceding GC17 putting us at an advantage over other established clubs.

If Sydney West were to have come on board as well and we were to finish well down the ladder and get priority picks in 2009 our club may have been the best poised to be at the head of the competition by say 2012 and onwards when our draft picks mature.

Is that because you'd find yourself lost on the way out? :P

AFL opens their eyes

MEMO:

TO: AFL

FROM: DEMONLAND

SUBJECT: WE TOLD YOU SO!

Hang on - all the article says is the team won't be formed by 2011, and the target date is 2012. So what's one season? From what I can tell the intent is still there.

Correct. As I said its on hold. Of course the intent is still there. Public opinion was the Western Sydney front appeared rushed straight on the back of GC17. The AFL have realised more work needs to be done for Western Sydney. At least they are now acknowledging in the current economic climate that WS18 shouldn't be rushed.

Reading the article you should note: -

Instead of pushing to create an under-18 team by 2010 and follow the Gold Coast model, the AFL looks certain to spend the next two years investing in extra development and marketing in the non-traditional football region, which Fitzpatrick noted at last week's AFL Future Directions conference had provided a disappointing return on its investment.

"The commission has put off a final decision on the western Sydney team until the end of next year."

Whilst they may have put off the formation date, it looks as though this back peddling may result in further back peddling for the target date of 2012.
