I agree - I've always been a fan and, for mine, was the spiritual captain of the club for the most part of the year. I thought questions over his hardness were always unfounded (which he proved a number of times this year). Can't you just see another club approaching their premiership window picking him up and using his left boot to devastating effect while we lose a large chunk of the limited real class we currectly have available (for now, anyway).

Would rather Green stayed but if he goes it will be becuase he would feel un appreciated by those at the club, 3rd in the B&F is a joke.

True. Played his heart out for the club this year.

I fully undertood trading Woewodin and Johnstone when we did, but where we are as a club at the moment, off-field moreso than on-field, losing Green for anything less than a 1st round pick, will be PR disaster for the club.

see you later green. if you wanted to play for the red and blue you would have signed.

good luck where ever you go. but its not us trading him off, its him asking to leave. and i hope we get a great kid for you.

it would be sad to see green go because i think he has been the one big improvement at the MFC.

But......... he is the only one we we can trade....... id would hurt me a bit to see it

but if we could get pick 4 - perhaps Green and Bell to PA for Pick 4

or Green and pick 35 to PA for pick 4

then you get perhaps Watts and a Vickery and there you have possibly ten years of serious size. strength and power in your team!!!

that would be nice!!!!

He no longer wants to represent our jumper, and obviously is wanting out so trade him away and get someone who wants to be a demon player

But isn't that an indictment on our club? Not only can't we attract players to the club, we can't keep our own. That's why it's an off-field PR nightmare. How do we attract sponsors or kids to support us when things like this happen?

I totally agree with you mo64, but until we have a settled training venue, better facilities, better success on field and a stable board(hopefully we have now) we will always struggle to lure and keep top line players

The way I read it, it seems like a money issue. Nothing to do specifically with our club or PR issues. The same situation is happening at most clubs and will continue to happen as long as players get paid to represent clubs.

Really don't wont him to go but if he is to go there's not much we can do about it. I think the only way we could get pick 4 though would be if we traded Green along with pick 17.

Which players haven't we been able to keep? I can't think of any other than the occasional interstate player... it is not an ongoing problem, this is an isolated incident that seems to be related to the MFC playing hardball on his contract, which in light of some recent contract blunders can only be commended.

I would have loved to see Brad playing for us next year, his actions have indicated that he is not totally committed to the MFC though so I think it is important the MFC try as hard as possible to set up a beneficial trade.

If I was in my late twenties and at MFC I'd want to leave too...

If we ARE going to trade him, it would make more sense to do it now, as his value wont get much higher. Strong draft, our best player this year, hardness, skill, leadership, a good head on his shoulders... Could walk into a leadership group at Carlton or something.

The only concern is our kids need SOMEONE to follow the example of. No Green, then who?

I'd say it has more to do with Brad understanding where the club's at. He knows we're rebuilding and that finals may well elude him if he hangs around. The club knows how important it is to get as much young talent as possible so it's using it's best performed older player to attract a possible deal. If we get a top 25 pick or combine Brad with another and get an even better pick and Brad plays some finals footy elsewhere it's a win win. It's no PR problem, if anything it will show people that the club is serious about getting better.

Davey and Green to Port for pick 4

Commitment isn't a static emotion. It can change with the breeze.

I don't believe money is the issue. As stated in the article in The Australian, Connolly believes that money wouldn't be the problem, because he won't get anymore anywhere else. He's [censored] off because he was left out of the leadership group and missed out on a bonus because he didn't finish in the top 2 in the B&F. Considering his age, and where the MFC currently sits, combined with the fact that it may be his last contract, he's open to the idea of finishing with a successful club and have a chance at a flag. All reasonable, imo. Pick 16 to Hawthorn and swapping a couple of other picks may do the job.

Whatever happens I'll remember Brad fondly.

"It is believed Green missed a bonus payment in his incentive-based contract for not finishing in the top two in Melbourne's best-and-fairest award last week."

Ouch...

I'm probably more sentimental than most when it comes to trading, especially a player like Green. But if he's pushing for the trade, then I'd rather he move on rather than disadvantage the club.

Absolutely. He had the chance to sign for a number of weeks.

It's a big grudge to hold to leave on account of missing out on the leadership group, had he played the way he did this year in previous seasons, he would have been included in the leadership group IMO. Understand the bonus scenario and having a chance at a flag, etc. Reasonable IMO too.

Re: Hawthorn, if O'Keefe can't get to Hawthorn, Green would be the "next cab off the rank" for the Hawks.

Hawks have a loaded forward line but maybe Geelong's pick 15. A hard leading forward who can kick straight. Will get plenty of supply and blocks from mooney.

I think Footscray's used their first pick but he could be a good forward there.

Saints maybe. A medium sized forward to help Riewodlt, Kozzie.

I think Greens a big show for the clubs who are or think they're close. Hopefully the deal gets done.

With their forward set-up, why would the Hawks want O'Keefe? They've already stated that experienced key defenders are what they're looking at.

Hawks may have room, (ie lets see what Crawford decides). Pick 16 seems fair. They may be willing to release pick 16 for a Green and one of our other later picks. They will get a replacement pick if T.Boyle goes elsewhere. Could it be the Dees?

Just relaying my thoughts after hearing the Hawks state their level of interest in O'Keefe on SEN in the last hour. That's why mo. ;)

For those who have stated and thought that the Demons will remain relatively quiet during trade period, I suggest you read the article posted by Mousey:

"We want to better our position with more picks or better position picks." - Chris Connolly.

They won't be putting their feet up with some KFC watching Fox Sports or twidling their thumbs at Telstra Dome, they'll be quite active.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
