Dees most likely destination for big Eagle

Wouldn't it just be amusing if we ended up trading Pick 1 + 51 for Pick 2 + 36 with a proviso that WC choose NikNat in the Draft, followed by a trade of Pick 2 + 67 for Pick 3 and 53 (or throw in one of 17/19 to get Warnock) if Freo want Rich over Watts?

It will never happen, but would be delicious if we ended up with either:

3 (Watts), 17, 19, 35, 36, 53 or

3 (Watts), 17 or 19 + Warnock, 35, 36, 53, 67

and that being before we shop players around and try and turn those early third round picks 35 and 36 into early second round / late first round picks with the right players.

Yes, i know, it wouldn't happen, but hey, that's why drafting and trading is so much fun, clubs have brain fades occasionally (Freo, Kangas). I'm excited to see how aggressively Bailey and co will approach Trade Week.

Let's hear some names H. Who would you put up? What are the realistic destinations for these players and what would we get in exchange?

The old 'put up or shut up', eh Vibes ?

It's very complicated and difficult to summarise what one thinks will, or even could happen. Much depends on the meetings between the clubs next week. Each club is given 15 minutes with all other clubs where they'll pore over the list and say who they might be interested in. Then it's a case of seeing what they'd pay. What I think may, or should, happen will be irrelevant if the club in question has no interest due to their rating of said player, or if they have an over abundance of his type.

McLean and last years draftees are about the only players that I wouldn't trade for the right deal. But even though I'd trade Green I don't believe that we'd get a top 20 pick for him in this draft. He's 28 before the first bounce next year and the only club that would perhaps even consider giving a pick in the teams would be Sydney if they lose O'Keefe. And even though I reckon a pick around 20-25 for him would be fair I wouldn't do the deal for a host of reasons.

Likewise with Rivers. What we'd get for him wouldn't be enough. If he gets his body right his upside is enormous and he's still young. What I would trade him for we wouldn't get. There becomes so many moot points in trade week.

If we could get a 10-20 pick for Davey I'd do the deal, but I doubt the club would.

Guys like Bell, CJ, etc aren't worth a cold pie. The best we'll do is improve our draft pick situation by moving them on. Which I'd do, btw.

Sylvia isn't worth trading because he's worth more to us than the draft pick we'd get.

Unfortunately we just don't have any perceived value in the market place.

So on reflection I haven't really been able to shake much from the trees. I doubt the club will either. I'll watch with interest.

Nudge putting out Seaby for pick 35.......................priceless

Seaby is a dinasaur with limited ability............next

LOL @ Melbourne going after Mark Seaby.

He is one of the absolute worst players in the comp and will bring NOTHING to the club.

Agreed. Disgusted at the fact we are even considering him.

Mark Seaby, my god.

A lowpoint in all our lives.

you two obviously don't understand the importance of having a decent ruckman who can move around the ground- cos jamar is terrible

If Seaby was a decent ruckman then I'd agree, but he's not. Have you actually watched him play?

Just because he backs up the best ruckman in the league doesn't make him any good.

Seaby has never had more than 17 disposals BB. You obviously don't understand how rubbish he is.

Goalkicking Ruckman? Never kicked more than 3, has kicked about 60 in his 100 or so games. Doesn't speak volumes either.

Seaby averages a whopping 3.5 more possessions a game than Jamar.

Now i'm not saying Jamar is good, but don't go advocating crap is better than crapper.

I tell you what, I don't normally do this, but you really do post a lot of crap. You have no idea what you're talking about. To actually link 'move around the ground' to Mark Seaby is utterly ridiculous. I never said Jamar wasn't terrible either. But Seaby is not close to being a decent replacement.

I think this is the most realistic angle for the club to pursue and the small grabs from Bailey over the past couple of weeks suggest this will be the approach. Upgrading pick 35 into the 20's and pick 51 into the high 30's or low 40's would definitely be worthwhile. I think 'cold pie' worth is a little harsh. CJ, Bell and maybe Dunn could be players other clubs would be interesting in at a low cost. Trading Bruce seems a long shot although one I'd like us to consider for anything under pick 25. Anyone entertaining thoughts of getting pick 4 from Port Adelaide is in dreamworld. I agree that the club is unlikely to trade Davey and Sylvia and Rivers are indeed worth more to us than what we'd get in a trade. The one player who may have value is Jones but with McLean's injury history, I think he's important insurance. The only 'must keep' players on our list at the moment are Morton, Grimes, Maric, McLean and Garland. A fit Rivers and an in-form Davey would join that list but we have to go back a couple of seasons for evidence of that! I think Bate could become an important structural player (despite his form deteriorating at the end of the year) but everyone else I consider to be bit part or role player.

Another pick below 25 is important. If we go with Watts as pick 1, we could then take the best 3 midfielders available and hope 2 of them turn into best 22 players. Whatever way we do the maths regarding draft picks and list weaknesses, we're still a draft short in regards to addressing our needs. Patience over the next 12 months might become our most required commodity.

Agree with Hards re Seaby. I'm not swayed by Seaby stats. He is very very average.

Hrm, getting worried about the Whelan situ.

Surely he'll sign again, surely we need him. If he joined another club I'd...I'd... oh dear God i don't know. 4 of my 5 melbourne jumpers would need to be burnt.

What other AFL Club would pick him up?

ok. so he averages 3.5 more possessions a game...

jamar probably has about 50 minutes more game time!

geez you guys arent seeing the point- you've all said how good our footy dept is, chris connolly knows what he's doing- i back them 100%, if they're targeting seabuy- obviously they dont think he's a piece of crap, like jamar

and with a name like yours (titan_uranus)...and your having a go for me posting crap

look what you posted on this forum about left footers

"Yeah I didn't realise until later that most of the players who have just one foot are lefties. I think the fact that lefties generally are better kicks, and the fact that lefties often have absolutely no right foot go hand in hand. In other words, they concentrate a lot on kicking with their left as coaches see it as a weapon of sorts. In the process they neglect their right foot."

recruiters don't discriminate because someone is right footed- so we aint drafting him. it's purely coincidental the hawks have more lefties than righties.

What other AFL Club would pick him up?

Hopefully no one!

Not a good example BB. Hawthorn staff have been quoted as saying they drafted left footers specifically to increase their kicking efficiency. Wrong again.

Things have been slow the last few days during camp, but there are a few consistent rumours..

Mark Seaby appears almost a certain demon unless Warnock can somehow slip through. There is word that the demons will trade with fremantle pick 1 for 3, allowing Warnock to slip through to the PSD, but this appears dead in the water today.

Thus, the Demons are in the box seat to attain the services of Seaby, with the likely deal being pick 35 being dealt by the demons, probably in a 3 or 4 team deal..

The other mooted option is a trade of pick 1 for 2, with the eagles adding in a late pick, and the proviso that the Eagles take Naitanui with the no.1 pick, leaving Watts for the dees.

In other news:

Melbourne are shopping a number of players including: Daniel Bell, Chris Johnson, Mark Jamar, Paul Wheatley, and the ever irrepressable Nathan Carroll amongst others for trade in order to improve their order in the upcoming National draft..

The latest specific offer that is around is Bell to the crows along with 51 for pick in return for pick 28.

The demons have also approached a few clubs in regards to the availibilty of a few players including Beau Dowler, Mitch Thorp,Brent Reilly, Mitch Clarke & Mitch Morton.

Hawthorn have again expressed interest in Jared Rivers, with the dees reluctant to even consider offers, unless Mitch Thorp or Dowler is attached to any offer.

The saints are believed to of cooled on thoughts of trading David Armitage at this stage.

Brent Prismall still remains a big possibility, however ther have been no developments.

They all sound good... but as with 99% of the rumours, I doubt seriously any will get past the "mooted" stage.

Bell and whatever for 28 is a sensational return given the sitation and the depth of the draft.

Seaby for 35 is a bargain for WC. I know he's 24, and he's semi-proven... But he's going to be list clogger before too long at the dees, and he'll excite about as much as Jamar anyway.

Wasn't Dowler hurt badly? Take Thorp in a SECOND, maybe even for Rivers. Reilly and Clarke for the right price... and Mitch Morton for a second rounder...

They all sound exciting, as always Nudge.

What's the latest on Green?

I was going to do a separate post on Green tomorrow..

Things still up in the air, his vbalue will be tested on the market.. no doubt about it!!

I'll have an update tomorrow night..

Surely by testing, you mean a pick no lower than 20.

The club owes a duty of care to its members to get a very good draft pick for Green.

By testing he means testing. ie finding out: 1st rd, 2nd rd or <10, <20, <30 pick or ................

I'm sure Green is also testing his value in $'s and years.

His hearts not in MFC anymore, so hope he goes. Hopefully we get a good deal, as he is coming out of contract.

Miller, Bell, Jamar, Caroll, Green should be what we put out. keep CJ

You wanna get rid of Green and keep Bruce?

You fool.

does trade week start tomorrow?

i would love it if we were absolutely ruthless

i would only be upset if any of last years draft picks, garland or martin were not there by the end of the week

Add Davey to that list! He is the one most likely to get us that pick we want. 4, 5, or 6. Jones, Valenti, Aussie and Maric are all similiar size players. I like them all. But would persist with Maric and Valenti over Jones and Aussie. So possibly add a Jones aswell!

Add Davey and Jones!

You are an absolute fool, to be putting Jones on the trade list is ridiculous. He and Brock compliment each other very well when they are playing together. Valenti would be on the trade table before Jones

Why is everyone so desperate in getting picks this year.

We all know we'll have picks 1,2 and 18 next year.

Um no mate, thats the issue, and the reason this year is so important!

The Gold Coast team gets the top picks next year, we will only get pick 6, then maybe 11.. not to mention all the other kids the GC have rights to..

Picks arew worth 5 times what they normally are right now..

Hence the importance of increasing our order this year, to fully utilise this years draft, this is our only real chance..

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
