We get to choose clash jumper

received from the club this morning...

Hello ........(Me),

Thanks for your email. After the vote on our website was split exactly 50-50, we are now working with the AFL to determine a clash jumper design that is unanimously supported by our members, and a predominantly red design will be discussed.

Well done Bub!!! Lets keep this in front of them though. Keep chipping away at them Demons Fans..

Excellent, glad to hear that the voice of members is being heard.

I quite liked the reverse colours guernsey that was bandied around earlier in the year. I would like it if we could keep our same unique design that our guernsey has, however I would definately settle for red& blue in any form.

Although the blue side panels look good, I think that it would be pushing it a bit.

I just kinda went with what they were showing us.. :) Without panels is undoubtedly a more classical design. But in the vein of the "modern" jumper , and they tend to be very snug !!..I dont mind the panels. I think its what the fashion people call 'definition'.

maybe our own style guru "Jaded" might know more about al lthis. I think there are also panels these days to facilitate the ergonomics of the jumper !!. Of course I could be talking rubbish...its happened before !!:lol:

I thought I would send mr cox a note as well, lending my support for a predominately red jumper. if anyone would like to support the jumpee send an email to:

The panels would make you look fatter (defining your curves), which in the case of Cale Morton could be pretty good :D

I really do like the Red & Blue design. If they don't want blue on the side, perhaps a navy stripe resembling the letter M could be included at the back to avoid a clash with Sydney.

But I can tell you that I've spent all year designing uniforms for a major Australian company (20,000+ employees), and it is so incredibly difficult to create something that everyone likes and everyone agrees on. You will never have a perfect clash jumper, but no doubt a red and blue one is better than a white version.

I'd like blue numbers with white borders, just to be different :)

just for you !!!! :lol::rolleyes:

Another positive development. Good to see the Club are listening to the Fans too. Well done to Bub, well persisted and in the end a positive outcome.

I think the lads might like it as " defining the upper torso " !!! ..appearing beefier ;) ..more rugged...brrr !! lol

I sent my email to membership dept today ... and here's the reply........................

We appreciate your feedback regarding MELBOURNEfc's uniform. MELBOURNEfc experimented with some colours to create a uniform appearance in the early years of its existence. A distinctive white outfit was used, which led to one of the Club's earliest nicknames - 'Invincible Whites'. This made way for red and blue in the 1870s, but still has an important place in the Melbourne Football Club's earliest history and cultural background.

Clash jumpers are in place to ensure that there is clear differentiation between the teams to benefit the players, the spectators, the officials, and the broadcast and media partners amongst others. A ‘main’ playing uniform and an ‘alternate’ playing uniform are mandatory for all Clubs as stipulated by the AFL.

The other criteria enforced by the AFL surround the length of time a jumper must be used and it's colouring. Dark playing strips need a light coloured alternative, as in the case of our silver jumpers and an "alternate" jumper must also be used for a minimum of two years. Unfortunately, the AFL will not allow Red to be the predominant colour. The AFL have determined that the MELBOURNEfc home strip clashes with Brisbane, St Kilda, Essendon, Fremantle and Carlton. This clash occurs mainly due to the dark back of our jumper and those of the clubs listed.

You see..this to me is where the whole thing becomes subjective.

As you can see from the above comparison I could concur with some that the back of our normal H&A jumper can be confused with the Carlton, StKilda and Freo Jumper. To be honest Id reckon youre a dill if you were to think that Bomber effort was us !!. I see no problem with the Lions jumper.

I see absolutely no problem with a red jumper , from behind being confused for any other of the teams mentioned in Martin's email.

and Im about to voice that to him right now :) ( nicely of course )

The AFL are absolute dills.

Actually ..the AFL HAVE allowed us to wear RED..so they might be fibbing ever so slightly !!

That is the point! Red used to be ok but now it is not! Why AFL? and why does essendon or adelaide not need to come up with a white alternative???

Keep fighting the good fight belzebub!

to further emphasise just what a crock of sh!t the AFL talk. This is as we all know the back of a jumper belonging to a certain team north of theMurray. Who by the way HAVE NO CLASH jumper !! apparently not needed.

So if a red back is good enough for them..surely for us too !!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh good. I just read True Believer's response on another thread, and got stuck into that for bascially dismissing the option of a red jumper.

Great point. Maybe someone should point that out to the AFL/Melbourne

Bloody good work guys.

I reckon the white numbers on the back of this one would be a great result

yep...you've got my vote. Just need to convince MFC and that won't be easy. They know what they want !!!!

Its a grand old flag

Its a high flying flag

Its the emblem for me and for you

Its the emblem of the team we love

The team of the red and the blue

Everyheart beats true

For the red and the blue

And we sing this song to you

Should auld acquaintance be forgot

Keep your eye on the red and the blue

You know...no matter how many times I read those words..I just cant find WHITE !!!!!!!!

Totally Agree-We must stand up for our colours otherwise the club will always be a Push over. Funny How the SYDNEY SWANS (AFL Love CHhild) Don't wear a clash strip or white shorts EVER Grrr.

Ime still dark that Barry Hall played in the 2005 Grand Final!!! A guilty Man...

Have just emailed the club. I decided to ask them, straight up, whether the club is happy with white (or any other third colour) to be included on the jumper, because of my suspicions that the club is pushing for a white jumper. Suggested bub's red design with blue insignia and blue panels as an option.

God I hope we can get this to work.

I love your enthusiasm.... a bit like mine. Maybe send in our theme song and see their response. I'm sure they may have blocked me out for now. But I'm on a mission, and i don't want WHITE !!!!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
