It always interested me to see who we all rate from MFC. Usually we can all acknowledge the good players, the kids with potential and the over-rated but when it comes to putting them into a order from best to worse there will always be diffrences in opinion... I thought i would give it another go spliting into 6 different groups; Rucks, KPP, midfielders, small forwards & small defenders/running players.

when creating my rankings i based the order on ability and potential. If you are an older player nearing the end of your career, you would be relegated in prefrence to young potential.

Rucks:

Paul Johnson

Mark Jamar

Jeff White *

Jake Spencer #

John Messen

KPP (Forwards): (190cm +)

Cale Morton

Matthew Bate

Brad Miller

Michael Newton

Trent Zomer #

Ben Holland *

KPP (Defenders) (190cm +)

Jared Rivers

Colin Garland

Stefan Martin

Matthew Warnock

James Frawley

Nathan Carroll

Tom McNamara

Midfielders:

Brock McLean

Brad Green

Simon Buckley

Nathan Jones

Cameron Bruce

Brent Maloney

James McDonald

Shane Valenti #

Jack Grimes

Lynden Dunn

Kyle Cheaney

Clint Bartram

Small Forwards:

Aaron Davey

Colin Sylvia

Adaam Maric

Russell Robertson

Austin Woonameri #

Adem Yze *

Running Players/Small Defenders

Ricky Pettard

Paul Wheatley

Daniel Bell

Matthew Whelan

Chris Johnson

Jace Bode *

Issac Weetra *

# ROOKIE LISTED

* EXPECTED TO SEE RETIRE/DELISTED

OTHER THOUGHTS & QUESTIONS:

Tom McNamara, During the Pre-season games i thought McNamara along with Valenti showed alot of potential, havent been able to see to many Sandy games but he has played most of the season in the reserves, can anyone shed any light on his potential??

Id expect to see Cale Morton be a key position when he finally finds him Gym pass and does some weights, It is imperative for MFC that Morton stays away from Bruce and Wheatley whilst he is in the gym

Id expect that we would trade either Green or Bruce if the pick was higher enough. And maybe Bell if he attracted any attention.

Who was a worse draft pick, Weetra or Heath Neville??

Clint Batram tries hard but just isnt good enough.

Simon Buckley is what we need more of. SPEED and run and carry.

Jack Grimes will probably be in our top 5 midfielders in 12 months time.

Id expect to see Jack Watts and Robert Warnock at the MFC next season.

I heard a romour on here before that Alwyn Davey wanting to play at Melb with Aaron, Is this just rubbish???

Melbourne need to draft kids who are quick and have skill.

Your thoughts and id love to see your rankings....

You missed pulling him up on Moloney etc too.

Anyhow, to comment on the actual post, I guess the rankings aren't too bad, although trying to fit players into categories is problematic.

Is Davey a small forward? He's played more in the midfield over the past year or two.

Robertson plays as a KPF, although the height criteria excludes him.

Morton hasn't played as a KPF, so I'd have put him in the midfielders group.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
