Does any1 else see Shane Valenti as a similar player as Brent Havery? If he could build his motor abit I can see him becoming that type of player. I thought Shane was smaller than Brent.

not as quick or elusive. he is a handy player. good decisions and skills and finds the footy. very important player for us atm without brock. we need polish and pace around the ball to compliment jones, mclean and valenti.

Totally agree going on the way he looks. I thought it was only me who thought they looked similar. I really rate Boomer, so I'd be rapt if he got to be anywhere near as good.

Way too early to be making comparisons with anyone! Saying that, it`s hard to believe he has only played about 5 or 6 games of AFL footy. He must be averaging 17 - 20 touches a game and looks like he belongs. Some very encouraging signs! If he could work on his pace he could become very important for our future.

yeah...i can see a comparison to sam mitchell

from what i have read/heard, he has a similar work ethic to JMac who unfortunately wasnt great today (even though he was named in the best on the club websight)

I don't think too many people believe he will be "elite" (however you define it), but he certainly has a bright future if he keeps up his progress.

He doesn't have that touch of class about him, but neither do the likes of Sam Mitchell. If he can become a handy replacement for Junior and take some heat away from the likes of McLean (currently our only effective midfielder, even with a broken ankle), we would have done very well for our investment.

If you rate Junior as a C-Grade midfielder, than I guess your assessment is right. C-Grade/Battler to me says "Godfrey", which IMO he is miles ahead of.

I'm looking 4-5 years down the track and mentally assembling a premiership team that can forge towards a flag, and rating those who can be part of that next premiership. I don't see Valenti in that team.

That said, there's much water to go under the bridge and many players will help along the journey, even if they don't ultimately command a position in a topflight side.

Maybe post season training on sand dunes and working on his running technique.

I'm always completely open to a persuasive argument if you can offer one, and so far you haven't. I'm yet to see anything to indicate he's going to be anything more than a good honest player. I don't think he's ever going to be as quick or clean as someone like Sam Mitchell, who is probably the player closest to his "type", which makes me wonder what he offers that any other dime-a-dozen midfielder doesn't. He seems to be a handy player (and was very good today) but I just don't find him to be all that exciting a player.
