High Tower this is a massive 'bump'. I think you need to calm down.

As for the leadership group - who knows what Brock will get up to over the summer.

And with trade week, I don't know who will be left.

Brock for Captain! No doubt. Will be shocked if he is'nt.

Macca and Bruce his deputies. These 3 play like leaders. Oh! And add Paul Johnson too that list. So make it 4. Most of the team need to pull their fingers out if t!hey want to be leaders.

theshaft they played for northen knight not calder cannons

Yeah, you're right. Oops.

Totally agree- gee brock has had some unlucky injuries- ankle 07 and then this year.

Ready to be captain, with Miller and Brad Green deputies- macdonald and bruce aren't captain material, they're good senior players. Paul Johnson and Moloney should be in the leadership group

Green ©

McLean (vc)

Miller

Junior

PJ or Jones

We need to have a singular captain, my vote is for either Green and McLean. Green and Junior are the only two "older" generation players in there, this is deliberate to install this playing group as the future of the club.

Bruce has been a good servant, but we can no longer have him as the centre of our footy clubs image.

This is nothing compared to the 2 years (and change) thread revive the other day :P

I created this thread, it is still current and concerns next years leadership group. It saves creating another thread on the same topic. It saves Mods merging threads. Massive bump back.

......etc..... :)

Edit:

PS. I liked the pic you posted in the other thread. Got the message, cheers.

Beyond 2009 I'd imagine:

B McLean Capt

J Rivers VC

And a leadership group consisting of Jones, Miller and Moloney.

But for 2008; I can imagine J McDonald captaining in a care-takers type role whilst Brock get a full season under his belt and another year of experience.

J McDonald Capt

With a mix from:

B Green

N Jones

B McLean

B Miller

B Moloney

J Rivers

M Whelan

Green and McLean have to be in there i would have thought. Probably with Beamer, Miller and a backman. Maybe Rivers or Wheels.

I don't rate Bruce and McDonald is never going to be the answer. However, maybe Bruce is good around the club, i don't know.

Going to add too my own Blog!

These are the only cosistent players week in week out! Not injured, but goer's! Leader's are consistently good all the time because they lead by example. Thats why Macca is so well respected at the club. Miller is way too inconsistent! Green just does'nt cut it for me. Not hardened enough!

Brock and PJ play with passion! Where most dont! These guys would be captains on the field where we need it!

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
