What's needed in 2024
This club needs to be more ruthless. It got credit for targeting Lever and May and broke the stereotype of safe recruiting/drafting. Those moves proved to be masterstrokes that basically got us the flag in '21 along with some decent drafting. Unfortunately, we are yet to nail a FWD. With the picks we currently have + what we will get for: Grundy, Harmes, Jordon, we must be aggressive. Gawn is 31. Yes Petty looks good, and yes JVR will hopefully come on/Jefferson might get exposure, but injuries happen - as we've seen the last two years and therefore we need depth. We need a FWD for the next 2-4 years while JVR and Jefferson learn their craft. It is no good throwing JVR to the wolves getting the best defender each week as a 20 yo.

Then we play hard and say that Kozzie is also a required player.- Kozzy Pickett Re-Signs for 4 Years
If Kozzie goes, the equation is quite simple. We will demand Zak Butters. Butters is from Victoria.- Kozzy Pickett Re-Signs for 4 Years
May, Lever and Gawn have all been reported at relevant and various stages to be on more than that figure. Richo didn't say Kozzie deserved that, that is the 'industry talk' based on what current deals are and what I think Kozzie is worth (I don't think anyone on here with half a brain would disagree with that). He didn't say that we wouldn't be able to re-sign Kozzie because of those deals: he said that it makes for conversation that clubs work out whether they want their premium top-liners to be rewarded (Trac, Clarry, Gus - all done last year) which makes it more difficult to retain the next tier (Luke Jackson case and point - and now the conversation turns to Kozzie). Does that help you?- Kozzy Pickett Re-Signs for 4 Years
Not conjecture - confirmed by Alan Richardson end of last season on trade radio, that most good clubs have their top 8 tied up to nearly 50% of salary cap. Unless they are prepared to do a hawthorn/geel and play for less/success... New CBA means that average salary has increased significantly since last broadcast deal.- Kozzy Pickett Re-Signs for 4 Years
The reality is that Kozzy deserves to be getting 650-700k per season for this deal. We may not be able to match Port or other suitors given the deals that Trac, Oliver, Brayshaw have all signed. We know Lever, May and Gawn are all north of this figure. So it leaves very little for the rest.- 2022 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Agreed - I don't expect we'd get top 5, simply suggesting we try move up to 9 or 10. But they might have tried to no avail. You'd back them in to get something at 13 given Taylor's record- 2022 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Would the club not entertain trading pick 13 and future 2nd or 1st? Seeing as though we have two future firsts (2023) and two future 2nds (2023)...we could get higher up the order this year - given there's some F/S picks. I know next year's draft is being touted as stronger, yet I'd like to see a better return on investment for losing Jackson this year. We've got a good record of trading up/picks.- Trade and Free Agency rumours
