  1. To be a chance we must - Bring relentless pressure from opening bounce. Move the ball quickly and efficiently not just throw it on the boot and bomb away. Continue our recent trend of better delivery inside fwd 50. I read this morning since we got thumped by Freo several weeks back we’ve been the hardest team to score against. Winning this is very possible.
  2. Petty turns 25 next year, May turns 33. For many he’s a must keep, the club is normally pro active in the re signing of players. Considering the push from Adelaide surely we’ve offered him a revised contract which overrides his current one which runs out next season.
  3. Theres not enough talent for 18 AFL men’s teams currently and its been going for how long. The AFLW expanded too quickly and in the process diluted the quality of the product. AFLW was always going to work but they’ve gone about it the wrong way.
  4. Doesn’t matter what the AFL do to our game we the fans will continue to lap it up. The current state of umpiring is and has been for some time extremely inconsistent. The tribunal / match review is a talking point every week. Constant rule changes and the pending expansion to a 19th team for many stretches an already thin talent pool and here we are discussing a wildcard weekend.
  5. Sucked in Port.
  6. I liked the fact we look to move the ball quicker and at times through the corridor. The fwd line seemed less congested and we delivered it a hell of a lot better than we normally do. TMac should be offered a one year contract for next year.
  7. Quick ball movement and low penetrating kicks to a leading fwd.
  8. Fritsch is a gun.
  9. Ball movement so much better. Entry into fwd 50 so much better.
  10. Hogans set shot routine just went next level.
  11. Logan McDonald had re signed for 4 more years.
  12. Is the salary cap going up next year? If we’re serious surely we could offer a bit with cap increase plus pending retirements.
  13. Of all the years to do a Melbourne, we chose this one.
  14. Jack Higgins miss highlights what’s wrong with fwds.
  15. Any chance of anyone kicking straight. Saints and Port making hard work of it.
  16. Watched parts of Suns v Pies & Cats v Bombers. Again once the Pies force a turn over they are off, and rather than just bomb it down the line their players sprint to find space and a series of low quick kicks finds them hitting up a fwd, Hill more often than not who has sprinted towards goal via the corridor. Geelong seemed to from what I saw leave Stengle or another (not sure who it was) deep fwd at times so when they turn the ball over they have a fwd leading up at the ball. I think we could also use tactics like these.
  17. On Fox Footy this morning they were replaying highlight packages from previous encounters between Melbourne and the Lions. The one of most interest was the 2021 qualifying final, we moved the ball quickly (not like Collingwood do now but quicker than we do currently) we would take a mark at half back or on the wing and we would turn and go kicking towards CHF before turning and kicking to a less congested fwd line. Our small fwd were at the drop of the ball and our pressure was immense. Anyway that seems like a lifetime ago now…..
  18. All good, I’m on holiday and I’ve had a couple so just thought I’d clarify.
  19. He’s 27, (not being smart, just sitting in an airport waiting lounge with time to kill).
  20. I think the Eagles are a chance today.
  21. Stuff me Bub, I’m getting over a bout of influenza and it hurts to laugh…..
  22. If Trac and Lever played last night what would have been different? Obviously you could start with potentially the score line and argue that our backline would have been more organised with Lever there or with Trac in the middle we would have stretched Norths match ups. But would it have changed Oliver’s game? Would it have changed the way we move the ball or our entry inside fwd 50 which is clearly affecting Fritsch’s game? Would it have changed some of our woeful set shots on goal, basic skill errors or our inability to not score in the last qtr? What about when we kick in after a behind and we nearly always go long to Gawn? We have too much talent to be playing like this, my biggest concern is we’ll start to have talented players want out come seasons end. Goodwin clearly doesn’t see a problem with the current gameplan or doesn’t have the skill set to do anything about it. We’ve done the whole swap some assistants around and that hasn’t worked. Look at Hinkley, I laughed when Port extended his contract. Difference here is Goody has a flag so what he says goes.
  23. Exactly, I made a comment in the game day thread about isolating Fritsch like the Pies do with Hill but we’ll never do it.
