Honesty
I had a look at Hipwood’s ‘ GameBreaker’ highlights to see how he got his goals. Hore was on Hipwood for the first goal, ball watched and allowed Hipwood to run to the top of the square unopposed. May let Hore know all about it too. May was on him for the second, Hipwood just beat him on a lead. Petty was on him for his 3rd and like Hore for Hipwood’s first goal, ball watched and allowed him to run free for another mark and goal. Petty was on him for his 4th and 5th also. 2 of his first 3 goals were due to basic defensive errors from a couple of inexperienced players. Hipwood was allowed to get off the leash so to speak. Since we are being honest, I thought Salem was a bit unlucky not to get a coaches vote. He was by far our best player. In a game where we led for about 60% of the time no MFC player got a vote.

CHANGES: Rd 16 vs Carlton
Jeffy probably wouldn’t have made a difference yesterday but at least he knows how to shark a ball off a pack. Find the next best thing and play them. Chandler and Bedford not ready? Spargo is the other option, noticed he didn’t get much ball for Casey but had 10 tackles. The lack of crumbing yesterday was unbelievable. Ball hits deck, Lions players having a raffle to pick it up.

A loss to Carlton ...
It’s ok, we’re red-hot favourites. What could possibly go wrong?

POSTMATCH: Rd 15 vs Brisbane
They didn’t just beat us, they smashed us in contested ball by 27. Probably one of the biggest differentials we’ve seen against us recently. I do agree with Goody’s comments about us staying in the game with counter attacking goals and that being an ‘unhealthy’ way to play but how does he learn from it? We can’t rely on the hope of winning contested ball each game and the rest sorting itself out. Inside 50 forward tackles were 7-6 their way. They didn’t generate scores from forward pressure, the lack of accountability up the field was a killer. 33 shots from 63 inside 50s compared to our 20 from 59. Our defence worked hard to clear the ball but our lack of poise moving the ball forward (Salem and Jones excused) was evident all day. Another frustrating game to watch, especially watching the Lions clear their defensive 50 with ease and watching two to three of their players sitting in the centre square alone for their counters. How often have we seen that this year?

Round 15 Non MFC Games
Yep and they lost Charlie Curnow for the match in the first quarter with a knee injury.

POSTMATCH: Rd 15 vs Brisbane
Anyone else notice May giving Marty Hore a bit of a spray/advice in the 3rd? We were up by about 10 points when Cameron kicks the ball long to a contest in the pocket from about 70m, Hore looked like he was manning Hipwood and they both ran to the contest together which May spoiled to the boundary. Zorko doesn’t give up the contest, picks the ball up on the line and kicks it to the top of the square where Hipwood ran on his own to mark and goal for his first. Hore just stood there ball watching while Hipwood ran off. As soon as Hipwood took the mark unopposed that is when May turned to Hore to let him know about it. Hore will be a good player for us but I liked the way May went about it, just reminding a new player that concentration levels need to be at a high level constantly.

Round 15 Non MFC Games
Probably one of the best I’ve seen for a while. The last quarter was edge of your seat stuff. Cripps certainly knows how to find the goals. Very good player.

Round 15 Non MFC Games
All good points Luci, I think most of us are getting tired of seeing the game in the news for the wrong reasons. The last quarter umpiring was as bad as I’ve seen for a long time. Missed throws by ESS players, marks not paid to GWS, the non-review almost made my remote go through the telly. Just to clarify how it works. Is it up to the umps to hold off for a review? I read they neglected the GWS appeals, or is it up to the part-timers upstairs to send the message down to hold off on the bounce? The inconsistencies are mind boggling. Some might remember two years ago in Sydney, Richmond lost a game after an exact incident was reviewed and Bolton’s goal was deemed touched against GWS and Cameron took it up the other end for a match winning goal. It really is below amateurish at the moment.

Round 15 Non MFC Games
Yep, Giants certainly threw it away. Game should have been over before the $hitshow started. For all their ‘Guns’ no one stood up when it mattered, apart from Davis, he was the only one that looked likely to win the game for the Giants when the Dons just bombarded the Giants’ defensive 50 in the last 15 minutes.

Round 15 Non MFC Games
Dead set embarrassing this review system. Starting to be swayed for calls on ‘Challenges’ by the coaches. The whole world saw that ball was touched in 5 seconds of footage. What kind of system are they running?
