It doesn't make the selections any better. The point is the players weren't very good, which is a drafting failure. As a percentage I would say 90% drafting and 10% development is the cause of our recent problems.
-
Which of the recent Melbourne failed top draft picks would be stars if drafted by other clubs?
-
No, poor drafting. If it was poor development they would have improved at other clubs. And don't say it was too late that Melbourne scarred them, players can change and improve very easily.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 23

Mitch White to debut. Deliberately withholding a link to annoy Curry & Beer. -
Just because they weren't a "shock" doesn't mean they weren't poor choices.
-
It again just proves that drafting has been our number one issue, development a distant second.
-
I always liked him, gave his all and always provided a spark. A lot of players should have been moved on before he was.
-
This is the crux of the issue that no one in the media has addressed for years. Is tanking deliberately just deliberately trying to lose, or does it include winning not being a top priority? I don't think that Fremantle and North are actively trying to lose, but winning certainly isn't their top priority.

In fairness, I still think of 2000 as being 10 years ago. -

Yes. -
Would $3 million over five years be enough to get him out of retirement?

Biggest downhill skier I've ever seen. -
He's always been lumped in the Rockliff, Rich and Redden group, but I need to be honest I wouldn't know him if I fell over him.

Paul Roos heralds more onfield changes at Demons
Straight Sets Simon replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
When Roos came on board I knew there would be a re-build but I just hadn't really considered how deep it would be and as you allude to it is another demolition job. Basically 2007-2012 drafting a complete write-off which we all knew, but you think about how far behind we are because of this it is quite scary. -
The OP was referring to about a player making his debut.

It's been announced on AFL Twitter account. Close the thread.

Barry Prendergast joined Carlton in early 2012. In 2011 Carlton finished fifth and were clearly building momentum. Since 2012 Carlton have not finished in the top eight (excluding replacing Essendon in 2013) and look like more of a basket case than Melbourne.

Fremantle, Sydney and Hawthorn seem to have players who have muscles but are also very lean, the opposite of Lynden Dunn.

Jason Taylor - Is he up to it?

I thought last weekend's game was one of Salem's best. -
Paul Roos heralds more onfield changes at Demons

Howe is not a FA, he either must be traded or walk into the draft. -
A bit sad to hear, from reading here a head knock has contributed to this decision. His highlights package as junior is as good as any but that leg injury probably ruined any chance he ever had, but we will never know. Incidentally he's exactly the kind of player we need right now, just shows how important getting it right on draft day is.

Does anyone know who was meant to be on Danyle Pearce yet? -
POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 22

I'm far more concerned about the top six, you could swap the bottom six around all teams and they wouldn't change too much but the top six would. -
