  1. Umpires are already paid pretty well. A HS article from a few years ago said field ups were on a base salary of 65k with match payments on top. Said the top umpires who do the grand final were making about 150k pa. That is enough money to be held accountable, oh - and also to learn how to bounce the damn ball properly.
  2. Of course they will. Full time or not they get paid well to do what they do and should be held accountable for the money they earn. If they went full time, even more so. All I want is accountability, being dropped would also have the same effect and I don't see why that isn't done more often.
  3. I have been thinking about this for a while and I guess this is as good a place as any to put it. There has always been a lot of talk that umpires are not full time professionals, but they are still paid pretty damn well for what they do. I think it is time for them to be held accountable for their performances. I think major howlers should result in fines to the offending official - no matter when in the game the decision is made. Only way I can see to force some improvements. This is regardless of yesterday's game.
  4. Deever, you really do have to look at a map. As the crow flies it's not much different to flying to Brisbane.
  5. Three matches ago I would not have agreed with you Paulo, he was lazy and pretty close to putrid. The following game I thought he did pretty well and was unlucky to be dropped. If a competitive Melksham shows up he is an asset. Otherwise the revolving door continues for him.
  6. I actually think there is another way of looking at the issue. I think that they need to take a good look at holding the man and tackling a player before they take the ball. There is way too much hovering over ball getters and scragging them either too early or just as they touch the ball. If they clamp down on that then it would cause the tacklers to wait until the ball getter actually has proper possession and the split half a second might see cleaner disposals and speed up the game. Of course this would need to be coupled with a clamp down on dropping the ball, or half taking possession. This is where the no prior change would make sense to me as it will help with adjudication of dropping the ball.
  7. Should always support the player going for the ball. Good tackles should be rewarded but not sniping as soon as a player picks up the ball.
  8. Nah, I'd rather be happy than right any day.
  9. Unfortunately, I agree.
  10. I love those threads, hope one is put up soon and all thanks to those that originate them.
  11. Don't worry, so did I. Was looking forward to it. Next week apparently.
  12. High, Reckless, Medium impact? How many weeks is that? Honestly, the bouncers have no idea ........
  13. Well Spargo did play pretty well on Saturday...
  14. Wow, we watched different games.
  15. Melksham was OK today. Did some nice things. I can handle players making mistakes every now and then but not lack of effort or laziness. Personally didn't see any of that from him this week. (As opposed to last week).
  16. I would have had Langford as BOG tonight. Fantastic effort throughout.
  17. Maybe Collingwood are tanking so they can get him back.....
  18. Former ST Kilda rookie?
  19. Always wondered if Satirycon from ology was Saty from here. I think I recall he wasn't. Can anyone confirm?
  20. Great analogy.
  21. Would you sign that contract,. If we get unexpected cap space you get more? If not is it bad luck, or do you just shift the guaranteed money difference down the road to be dealt with later. Sounds a little too much like the Collingwood scenario for me. Pay him what he is worth, phased over an agreed timeline. I think the flexibility in all this will come in a few years when/if 900k now (for instance) is 1.2mil in later years.
  22. I thought Sparrow was BOG last week and I'm quite bullish on him. But I won't loose sleep over Harmes being selected. He provides a different balance. Can't wait for Sparrow to get back on, but I think he has been the sub enough lately. Also think the sub is best suited to snr players like Jones. I think in future there might be a 'jack of all trades" specialist developed for the role. Jordan Lewis would have made an excellent sub. My Yum Cha is settling now.
  23. So funny, I Almost spat out my Yum Cha!!!
  24. Didn't help that when they did go to the draft it didn't work out well. Scharenberg and Freeman for example would be filling those gaps now. I don't think they have been scrutinised enough for the drafting over the years.
