The AFL have gone too far this time!
Jerry Lundergard replied to Straight Sets Simon's topic in Melbourne Demons
I am going to the game too, but how may families won't go because the kids will want to stay home and watch the ceremony, especially those from Geelong? -
This will be a close game, and we are a real chance to win. The Bombers have been up for a number of weeks now, and have been the underdog in every game they have won. I am predicting a little bit of aura of inflated self worth from the Bombers team now they are playing against the "wooden spoon favourites" and are expected to clean us up. Do i want us to win this game? Ask me retrospectively in about 5 weeks when i see how many wins we finish with.

How about giving us one Friday night game all year, that happens to be live against the gate and falls on the same night of the Olympic opening ceremony. A big thank you to the AFL for that boom game and the thousands of $$$ we will reap from the gate . -
I can't believe Sylvia has been with us for 5 years
Jerry Lundergard replied to praha's topic in Melbourne Demons
Does anyone know if he is contracted for next year? I don't beleive he holds any value in terms of a trade, but if we were going to persevere with him, i was thinking he should be offered a one year deal and told your on your last legs. -
I wouldn't say i am a Bruce basher, but the thought crossed my mind on Sunday when i watched the team huddle after the toss "I wonder if all the players would get fired up by any words Bruce would say before the game, and what would he say anyway?" It was just a thought, but i would've thought that the likes of Miller, Green or a McLean would be able to pump the boys up so much more.

Did you read the comment i was replying to? -
And there will still be perceived to be tanking in order to get a higher number of balls. It happens in the NBA. The Celtics were said to be tanking 2 years ago to position themselves the best chance at getting Greg Oden, instead they get pick 4( i think), pull off a couple of great trades and win the championship, and Oden goes to Portland and misses the season with an injury. So go figure.

Incorrect. If he were playing for the Hawks or Cats, he would not be even getting a game. -

5 years too many as far as i am concerned. -
I have lost all rspect for Harvey. He has a player on his team who employs the exact same tactics as every other tagger in the AFL, so to single out Dunn like that is a pathetic response. I can't wait to see the Roos get smashed by 12+ goals come finals time again.

Wholesale changes for next week
Jerry Lundergard replied to Straight Sets Simon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Out - Bell, Newton, Bartram, Sylvia In - Green and Petterd(if fit), Frawley, Aussie -
I thought we were not much better today skill wise, than we were early in the season, but we were not pants by 100 points. This tells me that this young group is showing a bit more resolve than some of their soon to be retired elder teamates, and are learning how to defensivley stop the bleeding when needed. Now, if we could just get first hands on the ball and have a target to kick to(apologies to B.Miller)......

Not even close to being quick enough to make that comparison.
-
Mark Stevens has always been good to the Demons. Being a Doggies man, he would have sympathy with the plight of our club.
-
I should be on the selection commitee.
-
Maybe Aussie is getting a rest from footy for a week, just for a freshen up. Maric in for him.

We didn't use a No.1 pick in the national draft on Davey, he came off the rookie list. The fact that we have got the amount of great play we have off Davey is a bonus in itself.
-
I'd be dropping Warnock before Martin. I think Martin is a better long term prospect considering how little he has played football, and how much he has improved already. I would personally like to see Garland tried forward because we are struggling for targets down there, and Frawley can come back in and cover for him in defence, as he has shown some decent form at Sandy. I'd be more than happy to Sylvia to make way for Garland in the foward line.

They flashed to Jimmy sitting next to someone at the game yesterday, but who would know what Watts Dad looks like? Maybe the Watts family are mad Demon supporters?
-
It seems to me that Watts is pretty determined to stay in Victoria, and much of what he is saying is geared torward this. Reading between the lines, i think when Melbourne finish bottom 2 at the end of this season, if they want to draft Watts and give him assurances they will be picking him with pick 1 or 2, he will nominate. If he waits another year, he could still end up at the Eagles, Crows or another state anyway.

My 3 word player analysis V The Fockers
Jerry Lundergard replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
I am not a Bruce hater, i was just trying to make the point that much has been written about Bruces poor kicking(which IMO hasn't been too bad this season), however his handballing has been appalling. His technique doesn't look right to me, he seems unable to get the necessary purchase on the ball to delivery it with precsion and crispness to moving targets. -

Bruce - His Kicking > His Handballing -
No offence to Jones, but i don't want to see him getting those cheap possessions you talk of, because he just doesn't use the ball welll enough.
-
If the Eagles want Rich, they will get him because they are dead certanties to finish on the bottom.

Interseting article, however i heard Chris Judd talking on "On The Coach" a couple of weeks back and he didn't know most of the names of the Collingwood players he was coming up against that week and he is one of the all time greats.
