I thought i would start a thread for people to put forward their mock trades for the MFC this coming trade period. Undoubtedly there will be some garbage trdaes posted on here, but you need to think about what other clubs might want of us, and what we need in return. 1. Jarred Rivers to the Hawks for their first round pick(13-16). We all love Riv, but we are develpoing a number of key defenders at the moment, and the truth is Rivers has been struggling to consistently get on the field over the last few seasons. The Hawks have their window open at the moment, and lack another quality key defender to shore up their defense. It would be a high risk/high reward punt on their part. This would give us a 4th pick in the top 20. 2. James Frawley to St Kilda for David Armitage. Once again i feel we could probably afford to give up a defender, and as i beleive the Saints were keen on Frawley last year and has links to the club through Spud, they may still be interested. This would also allow them free up of Goddard to more of a midfield role instead of a defensive one. Armitage was a pick 9 in the same draft as Frawley and has struggled for regular game in their midfield. I feel he could be a good addition to ours, as he can get forward and kick a goal as well. Well there is two to start the ball rolling. I may post some more as they come to me but i'd be interested to read some more that demonlanders can come up with.

Here's a picture of their CEO.

First off, this belongs in the Draft/Trading section. And secondly, if you think we could actually trade White and get something in return, you're off your head.
-
Michael Newton is Chunk! Nice one.

I think it's always a danger overpaying for a fringe midfielder from a great team, because you never do actually know how good they are. Put Prismall in our team yesterday, and i could almost guarantee he would have been just another player in a red and blue jumper struggling.

Anyone been keeping tabs on the big 3?
Jerry Lundergard replied to Bates Mate's topic in Melbourne Demons
He's a lock to nominate. Doesn't want to leave Melbourne and he has the perfect opportunity this year, provided the MFC gives him assurances they will take him at no.1. -
What? You don't like a latest tactic of getting Wheats to thump it as long as possible to a contest where we have no numbers around at the fall of the ball? It's an improvement from kicking it directly to the other team.
-
It will be interesting that now we have all but secured last place, and got ourselves a priority pick, will the team picked be one the coaches think is our strongest possible team with a view to next year, or will there be a few farewell games? White looks like he'll get another game due to injuries, however i'd like to see us put in the like of Petterd, Maric and even Grimes if he plays well tommorrow. If that means Yze misses out, then so be it.

I wasn't judging Jones disposal on today's performance, i am judging it on the whole season. I think we have accepted that Jones is never going to be the greatest disposer of the ball, but if he can't extract the ball from clearances in the same vain of a Mitchell or Foley, then that's a worry. Now i know that they are two of the best in the game, but Jones is supposed to be our in and under player and that should be what he aspires to. I am yet to shown by him the he will go close to getting to their level. -

It's not often i agree with YM, but you are not far off the mark here. I have at least seen Bate play quite a few great games for us. I'll give Dunn the benefit of the doubt, due to coming bak from illness where he apparently lost a lot of weight. Jones disposal and his inability to either use evasive skills to get out of packs, or feed it out by hand are a real worry. Bell is strugggling and you can add Bartram to that list too. -

Unfair on Martin, Scarlett would have been murdered playing fullback on our team today. Garland looked unfit to me. How does Bartrtam continue to get games, but we drop the like of Valenti and Maric. Where is Petterd? In the doghouse? -

Can't say i have ever seen as many tackles not stick in my life. We both lack desire to lay an effective tackle and we are P*SS WEAK! -
I've been trying to stay reasonably positive this season, but this effort today is disgraceful. We are inept in so many areas, and although we have players injured, when many of your senior players are worse than your less experienced ones, your are in some serious trouble. Just thought i would list a few things that we flat out suck in. - Our skills. Nothing more to say here, they're on display for evryone to see. - Our clearance work is nothing short of pathetic. We always seem to be chasing opposing players around the packs, while they are running forward, trying to get the ball. Is anyone on our team actually trying to win the ball, or are we just trying to stop them getting it? - Our inability to kill the ball in contested situations, is once again abysmal. We will have passages where we will be applying great pressure, but other teams always seem to be able to keep the ball alive and get it moving forward, or kick a goal. Conversely, we always seem to get the ball locked up, or our skills will eventuially turn it over under pressure. - Our run and linkage out of our defensive half is poor. I am undecided as to whether it is our slow ball use, lack of options or once again our overall skill which lets us down, but we seem unable to move the ball quickly from on end to the other in a rebound situation like other teams. I feel like we have too many defenders without the skill to help us here. We only need one of Warnock and Martin, and that extra defensive positon can be used for some who can provide better run out defense with precision kicking. - We are unable to convert any extended periods of dominance in a quarter into scoreboard pressure. Many times this year we have had stages where we have won alot of ball, but our inability to convert this to scoreboard pressure is frustrating. There are still many more, but those are glaring to me at the moment. It's all well and good to talk about draft picks and who will care about this result in 6 months time, but unless we start setting some standards of play now, it won't matter how many draft picks we get, because they will be sucked in to this sub standard football playing culture that we provide ath the MFC.

That was about as bad as the Geelong first qtr, maybe worse. -
We must be worried about winning this one. It's a tanking team this one.

Schwab declines CEO role and other things
Jerry Lundergard replied to warren dean's topic in Melbourne Demons
I had considered this as an option also, but i was just trying to point the sensationlist report which was trying to make this out as another kick in the guts to our club. "How bad are Melbourne going, they offer Schwab the CEO role and he doesn't even want it because they are a basket case", is how they want the story to come across to the ignorant viewer/reader who can't cut through media bullsh*t. -
We have obvioulsy had a problem lately of over paying players at our club. There is no way with our list that we should have been up around 100% of the salary cap. Now we have been told it needs to drop, Green is probably the first one to feel the squeeze. Is it possible that Green is aware of certain contracts some of our current and soon to be retired players are on, and is feeling like, at his age, it is his turn to cash in on a similar contract? It definitely puts DB's commemts from a couple of weeks ago in perspective if this is the case.

Schwab declines CEO role and other things
Jerry Lundergard replied to warren dean's topic in Melbourne Demons
Ralph reports that Schwab declines the CEO role. I was under the impression that we were using a company(Slade maybe?) to do the recruiting for us. Now why would Schwab go through the whole interview process, get offered the job and then decline it? If he hasn't gone through the interview process, then hasn't he just withdrawn himself? Not declined the job as Ralph reports. -
I agree with CC that Col Garland should win the rising star. I know he won't, but he's had the hardest assignments out of any of those listed, and has not lowered his colours once.
