  1. Maybe a bit early to call, but I think Baker is going to be a Star in the back end of the season. Go Ginger Ninja!
  2. I would have preferred Viney for Lewis!
  3. 6 Oliver 5 Harmes 4 Gawn 3 Frost 2 Brayshaw 1 Hunt
  4. I am not sure whether the option is lost at all! No applications have been lodged so there have been no refusals. Dan has no love ideologically for the (so-called) “East Melbourne lobby”.
  5. My humble worker’s cottage didn’t come with a basement! ?
  6. I can’t believe Bill Shorten has promised the Pies a $70Million upgrade of their Olympic Park facilities, including a “Women’s Sports hub”! (As reported on the front page of this morning’s Herald Sun ) > This doesn’t inspire me to vote Labor! ?
  7. I try to never miss a Grand Final. It is the highlight of my football year watching the Pies being beaten on the big stage!
  8. The Club has not broadcast their plans nor submitted them to Local or State authorities for approvals! When they do, if it gets up, then he is “smart”. It is the best position on a number of levels so I applaud the Club for pursuing it! I am assuming that they are getting first-class advice! ?
  9. I am not convinced on that. People who take out three-game memberships may face the tyranny of distance making more than three games or they may be merely new members which is what we want. If we play the way we all expect this year, they won’t be content just watching three matches and will come on board fully next year. Total Membership numbers are no less critical as classes of membership. Great for the players seeing 70,000 Demon scarf wearing fans packing the stands and supporting them in their Final Series!
  10. I would be wrapped if we made it to 70,000. So far, I am working on converting two long-time barrackers into ‘supporters’. I now might have a crack at another two! ?
  11. Clarry’s engineering of a double 50-metre penalty yesterday was legendary! The best TV viewing I have seen in a long time! ?
  12. Not sure why you would wait 24 years and then let your membership slip? ? You can’t have been there before a Melbourne game as the bar is always rocking with Demon supporters!
  13. I hope that Hogan succeeds at Freo like Watts at Port! When on song they were two of my favourite players to watch! I suspect that I was watching through rose-coloured glasses and now excited by the team as a whole! We will dominate this year if injuries don’t intervene!
  14. Looking at the top ten is pretty pointless unless we swap with the Blues or the Suns!
  15. Obviously you either haven’t seen the plans or know how to read drawings! I have seen the drawings (and as an architect I know how to read them)! The footprint of the proposal neither extends into Yarra Park nor eliminates the playgrounds. Further, it is of a lower height than the Pullman Hotel and residential and commercial buildings on the opposite side of Wellington Parade. Nor does it “tower over” the street as, being on the South side, it casts no shadow and is lower than a fully-grown plane tree! Frankly, your comments are an embarrassment to the educated readership of Demonland! ?
  16. A typical knee jerk reaction (like when John Cain reduced speed limits after a bus crash)! I am wary about government announcements on the run without debating it in parliament or following due process. Wait until the plan is finalised, application made, Council and/or VCAT consider it and then start worrying. At the moment it is only a thought bubble!
  17. I am in the local area (one block away) with four children lamenting the lack of accessible sporting facilities!
  18. It doesn’t need to “increase the ability of the playing group” but it would be a mighty shame if we won a GF and had nowhere to celebrate with other Demonlanders, players and the MFC Board! ?
  19. CBDees replied to Dee Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Bit hard to expect him on the MFC website! ? They would have to remove Basic, Vince, etc first (and add Sparrow)!
  20. DV8 it is the Melbourne Cricket Ground after all (and we started life as the Melbourne Cricket Club Football Club)! Our secret is to strengthen our association rather than ‘untie the apron strings ‘!
  21. Despite the enthusiasm of Binman (which I share), the initial concept is focussed on players and administration rather than a gathering place for the MFC faithfull. There is still a fair bit of concept work to go as I understand and hopefully the patient MFC membership base can end up with a high profile facility next to the “G” which they can own rather than share with other codes. My belief is that it will include components which will benefit the local community rather than merely the Club’s football operations and have a positive outcome for the local area. It is the most appropriate position by a long shot and it has merit on planning grounds which hopefully the Club can elucidate to convince East Melbourne/Richmond that it is a Win/Win proposal!
  22. As an aside, I spoke with Mick Malthouse today (who lives directly opposite our proposed Yarra Park facility)! He is dead against it! (NIMBY?)
  23. Nice thoughts guys/(gals)! There are a number of requirements either site, including player car parking! I can see advantages in both. 1) Wellington Parade will involve no building over parkland, but conversion of grassland into an oval/training ground. 2) Olympic Boulevard involves building over parkland but no (perceived) alienation of ‘parkland’ as it is already sporting ovals!
  24. Because the other codes train and play their (and presumably have an administration presence)!
  25. They didn’t announce it before the election! The East Melbourne Group (of Nimbbys) are using it to pressure the politicians of all parties into opposing it! None of their leaders are likely to vote Green but they are using the process to their advantage as they know that this is the month when the politicians are likely to support/oppose anything that will get them votes!
