  1. Hasn't relied on his pace…never. Could play for another 3 years if the mind is willing.
  2. George Brandis has said "everyone has a right to be a bigot". If these clowns stay in power, this stuff will be permitted as some freedom of expression. Get used to it I fear.
  3. Anyone who watched Ed & Derm last night, they focused on the writing on one of the umpire's hand for our game. PTBC - Protect the ball carrier? No 50/50 - Just pay absolutely clear frees And another thing I forgot....
  4. I sold Tony Abbott ages ago too. Making a fair-dinkum killing. I really feel sorry for Ray Hadley not wanting to get out of bed in the morning.
  5. No, I sold all of Neeld's 2nd hand bargains (Gillies, Rodan, Byrnes, Pedo etc..) before they arrived.
  6. Have a look at it again. Watts' opponent definitely had hold of his jumper.
  7. The $4.50 is great value; as is the 28.5 point line. The NAB challenge match was a true indication I reckon of Richmond's slide.
  8. Roos obviously sees what every man and his dog can. There is an umpiring focus, but amazingly, not communicated to clubs. Good to see Roos hurt at a soft umpring decision as late as 3 days later. If a junior coach did this, or even a VAFA coach, there would be a lot of people suggesting that they "move on". I love it. He is passionate, and gives a stuff. Sets high standards for his players, and accordingly, expects those creatures to uphold minimum standards. This week shows me that he (a) hates losing and/or (b) has that competitive us-against-them vibe back.

How much of it is DNA transmission, or opportunity via success? Peter Knights and Gary Buckenara and Judge etc... were part of a successful era. This basically gave you an automatic key to get in the door of the coaching possibles. There might have been some good footy thinkers who played under Dennis Jones at Melbourne. But no success = no opportunity. How many of Barassi's MFC boys went on to coach AFL?

At MFC we had 27. Aitch (most of us private school boy educated) and Haitch (used to spot trailer trash)

Hafey and Tuddenham were ahead of their time with fitness levels. But for motivation and speaking skills and oratory, he was no Allan Jeans IMO
  12. Love the sound of that drill. The guy on the mark is occupied with a footy. The kicker will wait (occupied with the footy) until the option comes. You go look at training, juniors to seniors, VAFA etc.... it absolutely doesn't make sense when you have players at the end of the line doing nothing. Or setting up these half field drills, and the poor forward/backs don't see it because the man with the whistle in his hand is pedantic about the stoppage and wants it repeated 4 times. We have this "game sense" bulldust at junior level; but you hardly see a tackle bag, or contact drills, or tackling technique, or ground ball work at all. We still train like its Tom Hafey footy. Kick long, mark. Allan Jeans famously catergorised footy at (a) in dispute; (b) they have it and © we have it. Training at most levels is all about 'c'. And even then it is 1970's 'c' work. Training is 30 years behind where it should be at juniors, in the VAFA...you name it.

Ironic that Richmond play Melbourne after his death. Richmond is where his heart and successes were. The MFC was the club that he least respected and virtually hated (I read that somewhere). Richmond were the antithesis of the silver-tails, born-to-rule class. I doubt he felt this way as he aged, and as footy changed, but I recall his views of Melbourne Football Club quite clearly.

  15. Problem here is not that Cross got pinged. He had a choice to keep his feet, which is the bravest, most skilled, most aesthetic way to get a ground ball. The problem was Byrnes didn't get the free when he was slid under.
  16. Good point. There is no upside to kicking off the ground in our game. Doesn't show courage or skill in any way. If a player is within the area it should be an absolute no-brainer to pay a free. What about the old hockey rule. Kick off ground but you cant end up with the foot near your face ala Darren Bennett.
  17. They plucked these guys from juniors surely. Technique horrible. Power non-existent. They needed to step in 5m to throw it in, but that is common-sense. We were pretty slow on the up-take to; especially at the Punt Road pocket when Griffen pounced. Think that the AFL has told them (slant of the week) to throw in toward centre as harder to lock it in versus pockets.
  18. I predict more changes. Yes, you have to reward good form/effort, but tigers will be fresh, coming off a week break. Salem has had quarters of footy, and might now have to go to Casey to play a full game. Byrnes might not hold his spot due to form, and will no way match the run & intensity of Morris. Out: Salem (rest), Byrnes (Omit), +/- injuries (Terlich Frawley) Ins: Talk to those who watch Casey. Kent? Tappy? Blease? Adelaide boys
  19. 15 m kicks would have been a handy focus tonight. Surely Minson got a 10m kick. Marked and goaled.
  20. Unlike many MFC supporters, I agreed with the sliding free that Cross gave away for a goal. But Byrnes should have got one in the fwd pocket in the last to put us 8 points (?) up.
  21. Should book a getaway now. If he doesn't go, the bump has been brought back to life.
  22. You guys need to work out this maths. Roos has massive self-confidence and belief in his ability. That is why he took on the poisoned chalice. Roos has low/no ego. That is why he will hand over the reigns. Handed over Longmire a great list. Will hand over our emerging hardened youngish side to his chosen one.
