Welcome to Demonland - Picks 18 & 19
spirit of norm smith replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Don’t tell Gil. In the NBA Draft (basketball), you can buy or sell draft picks depending on the cap, penalties and the $$$ having to be paid on contracts per draft pick. It’s a absolute maze of swapping players and picks and future picks and options and cash even on the draft night occasion. You need to an advanced mathematician to solve the NBA drafting puzzle. Again don’t tell Gil. -
Welcome to Demonland - Picks 18 & 19

It’s a shame that guys like Nick Stevens didn’t get the chance to play this year. He’s another mid/half-back runner with excellent skills. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
spirit of norm smith replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
The last full forward from Tassie for the Dees? Russell Robertson. A gun. and before him... James Cook. A bust. -
When I look through the delisted players , if I had to choose one player to pickup it would be Ryley Stoddart. He has just turned 21 and had 3 years in the Swans system. I remember him in the 2017 championships for Vic Metro. He plays wing/half back , is a left footer and had real pace. Good skills. I think he got a few injury setbacks at the Swans and couldn’t quite crack it. Played the 6 games in 2018-19. Given his style is what we need (I’d like to add 3-4 quick skilled players to our list) , he’s worth a DFA or likely a rookie pick.

And who did they highlight for the Dees? Macrae? Perkins? Carroll? Ford? Cook? Winder? Maher ? Poulter? Laurie? -

Got it covered -
I know your point but Mitch Brown played a very good set of games once he got his chance and an excellent round 18 where he was nearly BOG. How those Essendon-scum hated his last game to beat them. 21 marks in the last 2 games. And contested marks. Took more marks in his 5 games than Tmcd did in 10 games. Probably gets a year again on value for money coin.

Another Season for Mitch Brown
spirit of norm smith replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree. He deserved his spot in the last 5 rounds ahead of Tmcd on form. Mitch got better and got 2 Brownlow votes in round 18. He was only slightly behind Trac for best on ground imv. He is very handy as a key position forward and keeps pressure on. -
2020 Player Reviews: #8 Jake Lever
spirit of norm smith replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I’d be not keen on paying upwards of $600k a year for a “good back pocket”. He’s good but he’s not a match winner or star of the team. -
2020 Player Reviews: #8 Jake Lever
spirit of norm smith replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think the Dees overspent in terms of two First Round picks and contract $$$$ to get Jake. Probably needed to serve up the big contract to win his signature. Not sure but probably on a 5yr-$2.5M total deal. Not sure we can substantiate that $$$ for a back pocket player who other clubs look to make accountable which robs him of the interceptor role. Lever is a good player. He had a good 2020. He is a very handy defender for our group. I think we need to reward with a premiership tilt in the next 2 years. Jake probably cannot hold out for more big $$$ at end of 2022. -
Great news. Everybody do the Happy dance !! why would he ever go back !! They shut their borders to us “over East “.
-
A good rule is to stop congestion. There must be at least 3 of your players in the back and forward 50 at all times.
-
Yes he’s an indigenous youngster. Played alongside Tarryn Thomas from the Kangas. And yes hopefully Jay Lockhart can vouch for his ability.

2020 Contracts and List Details
spirit of norm smith replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
Great news with LJ or “Jacko” extended until 2022. I was looking at the 2021 contracts and thought it would be great to get him extended like Kozzzy and Riv. Now move to lock away Oliver, Gawn and Salem. Oliver should get 4-year deal, Gawn and Salem 3-year deals. Salem may be highly chased but I think 3-years is fair enough. -
2020 Contracts and List Details

Bedford and Jordan should get 1-year deal. Agree Lockhart should be promoted to primary list and get 1–yr deal. Mitch Brown should get another year. Starred in last round and very handy key position player. Even if he played at Casey, he’s better than most. Chandler doesn’t fit anywhere. I think he’s going to be delisted. -
Ex Hawks premiership player. Left footer. 32 year old. Yes yes yes. Isaac Smith they cry. sorry Marty Suckling. Depends on his body and willingness to go on. I’d rather look at young blokes who are hungry for the chance. so it’s a “Yeh- nahhhhh”

Unlikely to get drafted. Good type of mid but behind quite a few other youngsters. Should progress to SANFL next year. Lachie McNeil is one I would also see as a chance though list spots are tight.

Instant nickname - “Nigel” of course. Shows my age !!!

Injury Plagued Nietschke Earns Rookie Spot
spirit of norm smith replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Honour in today’s footy world. Good call Dees. Better than the Buckley and the Filthy pies treatment of Stephenson and Treloar. -
Nailed it . But Georgiades and Mcinerney as rookies destroyed him and that was the final belated nail.

Here’s a name that I’m sure will get drafted and will be a consistent AFL player. A late bargain draft pick or a rookie pick 20 year old Rhyan Mansell moved to the SANFL to the Eagles (Woodville West Torrens) in 2020. He had played as a youngster 17,18,19 for Nth Launceston in 3 premierships. In 2020 for the Eagles, he showed he is a fierce competitor, driven to win the footy. His tackling is AFL standard. He has good pace. Run and carry. His kicking and skills are excellent. He hits targets. He is a good mark. He has 2nd efforts. In the SANFL Grand Final, he was a key part with 19 possessions, 8 marks. He has played across half back to use his pace and skills. I see his determination like Trent Rivers. They have the “Will” to compete. JT should have his name on one of those yellow sticky notes.
