@Nascent agree … presumably Tigers take Lalor at 1, then think Dees will choose Langford at “5” (or vice versa) Tigers could then also get Smith at “6”. Might see Kangas try to split 2 to get say 6 & 14 off the Tigers. Tigers could then guarantee themselves Lalor & Smith and a huge PR exercise with picks 1,2 draft combination. Kangas could get Tauru at 6 and get another player like Shanahan at 14. Fixes their key back and key forward outlook in one swoop.

Oliver to Geelong in 2025 trading. AFL media bottom feeders will run this story for the next 12 months. It’s the bushfire that won’t go out !!!

At 9, hope for either Lindsay, Travaglia or Tauru. Each are also very special youngsters with definite AFL quality futures. Each would also be ready for AFL in 2025. Josh Smillie is an absolute wildcard for me. I’d be doubtful if he gets past the Saints. At start of the year, he was a possible number 1. His form was generally very good and he dominated Coates league footy. But his championships games were average and I think clubs saw his defensive skills as lacking. But his talent is undeniable. 194cms big and strong and good burst across first 5 metres. Kicks it 50-60 metres easily. His centre clearance work is Cripps like. Whoever gets him and then puts the necessary extra physical conditioning into him, could get an absolute steal and a future great.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

Dees should hold at 5 & 9 at 5, it’s about who slides, it should be either Lalor, Langford, O’Sullivan, Smith or Draper. Tigers at 1 have to choose between Smith, Lalor or Langford. I think Blues will want O’Sullivan and Crows will grab Draper. So it’s probably out of Smith, Lalor or Langford option. All have excellent futures ahead with exceptional talent. at 9, hope for either Lindsay, Travaglia or Tauru. Each are also very special youngsters with definite AFL quality futures. Sounds like he is off to West Coast. Part of the mega deal for the Blues to land pick 3 and try to grab Finn O’Sullivan.

“No no no”… I’m running… “I said no” Hayes … definitely a No

wtf. Suns are crazy at trading. Why do the Pies get Houston for a future 1st and Noble. That’s it??? Wow.

Just note that whilst I’m a big supporter of JT, low draft picks does not guarantee success. Getting 5 & 9 should add two high quality youngsters. It was true for 2021, and in the future , you need the combination of drafting 1st round draftees, wise trades, attracting the right players from other clubs and development of others within the group.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
spirit of norm smith replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hope Dees retain list spots to get 4 draftees in this years pool. Super deep and lots of ready to go young talent. Given we have 5&9 and have purged other picks, our two later picks might be in the deep 60s. But there’s still talent. An example is in SA. Woodville-West Torrens U18 captain Jett Hasting was very good in the SA colts grand final (under 18s). Best on ground. I saw him also in the National championships and his run and carry and burst gave him similarities to the Trent Rivers. Endurance is good. Won the SA state coming2km time trial in 6min29secs. Skills are good. Has the pace and composure to be a AFL footballer imv. Probably a rookie pick but shows the quality late in the draft pool. -
Welcome to Demonland: Harry Sharp
spirit of norm smith replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Any news? Heard this was progressing quickly on Friday morning. I guess the bombers and crows pick swapping has taken the priority Sharp is the third player to potentially nominate the Dees now. 1st … Houston … did he really nominate us? Well the media said he did, so that’s a given. But he’s yes, no , yes has brought out other suitors and MFC off limits 🤮 2nd… Derksen… nominated MFC, Dees very keen and it helps his career, his financials and his family. GWS lost too many players and had poured concrete over Derksen. FFS. 🤨🤨 Hope we can do this deal. He’s the type of player needed and type of trade (22yo, 4 years in system) that can come in straight away and still improve and improve -
Yes agree it’s a reminder of the Mahoney days. Good smart trading of picks to move up the order. No complaints. Let’s JT weave some magic. Just to be clear, the call out that was frustrating was the recruitment of players like Schache (and his extension), McAdam and Billings. The extension for Laurie for a further 2 years was highly questionable.

Agree. Keep 5 & 9. Hold !!! We will have two guns available at these picks. Sure they become 7 & 11 with Ashcroft & Lombard bidding and matching going early.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
spirit of norm smith replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes I think both would be handy but we are unlikely to have any picks in the suitable range. Ough showed such improvement that he’s likely to be picked at 35-40 and Boxshall at 50-55. -
Wow. AFL list management. An Actuarial degree is required

Welcome to Demonland: Harry Sharp

Love this. Really want us to get Sharp. The deal could be MFC 49 for Sharp & BL 66. Gives Lions extra 200 points for Academy bids while leaves us with a third pick still. -
That’s a great get. Dees can use 5&9, and then see if theirs is still rated youngsters left at the end of the draft. There is typically good youngsters left who need to be given a chance. Other delisted free agents might be worth grabbing such as Parfitt.

AFLW: Rd 07 (Game 2) vs St Kilda
spirit of norm smith replied to BDA's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
That was super courageous. Tough win away from home. 3 1/2 day break. Saints are a good team. Our contested footy to win clearances was critical. Like to see more “getting territory” footy though with less handball like we did v crows votes. 6 McNamara 💙❤️ 5 Heath 💙❤️ 4 Hanks 💙❤️ 3 Hore 💙❤️ 2 Goldrick 💙❤️that goal in the 2nd quarter was special 1 Chaplin 💙❤️ Georgia Campbell 👏👏ruck work to compete and kick a nice goal Georgia Gall👏👏be strong at the contest in the absence of Pearce and Harris, great to see GC and GG stand up again Get the pen out to sign up extensions please. -
Welcome to Demonland: Pick 46
spirit of norm smith replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
Pick 46 will not even get the chance to open its locker. Likely off to the Dons or Lions in the swap frenzy -
Give us pick 9… sell sell sell all those picks

2024 squad = 45. 😭ANB (crows) BBB (⏰)Gus (med ret) , Hunter (⏰) JS29, KFW, Schache. Tomlinson likely to go. 8 off the list. Down to 37 ??? Marty Hore??? Staying or delisted???Likely to stay with Tomlinson going. Add in Campbell and Sharp*, plus potentially another DFA (Parfitt?). Add in 4 in the draft (and leave room for Mentha as a cat B rookie).

Welcome to Demonland: Harry Sharp
spirit of norm smith replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I like what Sharp can add. Delivers run and carry and youth. His endurance is elite. At 22, he has a strong base. 👏👏 Thought Dees could get Sharp from Lions and get trade in pick 9 from Dons EFC 9 for MFC future 1st and pick 28, 40 & 54 (Dons get 1300 points plus future 1st) … Dons only need 1000 points if Kako bid is say at 8-10 so it’s paid for Sharp for picks 48 & 65 Dees would have 5,9,46and Sharp -
Agree not so much the points , it’s the extra dip of 28 and 40. Getting 9 this year and giving back future 1st plus 1800 points. Sweet deal for Dons. This draft offers excellent youngsters in the 2nd round as well. I do really like getting 9, so wait and see …
