  1. Interesting....from the web The original music is from the Gendarmes' Duet (the "bold gendarmes") from the 1867 revision of the opera Geneviève de Brabant by Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880), which debuted in Paris in 1859. On the Grand Old Flag Written by George Cohan of Yankee Doodle Dandy fame.... The original lyric for this perennial George M. Cohan favorite came, as Cohan later explained, from an encounter he had with a Civil War veteran who fought at Gettysburg. The two men found themselves next to each other and Cohan noticed the vet held a carefully folded but ragged old flag. The man reportedly then turned to Cohan and said, "She's a grand old rag." Cohan thought it was a great line and originally named his tune "You're a Grand Old Rag." So many groups and individuals objected to calling the flag a "rag," however, that he "gave 'em what they wanted" and switched words, renaming the song "You're a Grand Old Flag".
  2. Realistically? Is there a chance of Hawks passing Freo
  3. Sorry GoF will always be a jingoistic US knock off The Crows song is arguably worse being that of the US Marines !! Amazing France has never complained about Brisbane/Fitzroy using the National Anthem of France Time for a reset of the knock offs IMO
  4. The next six gives us time to get a lot right if we are to challenge in finals. Adelaide seem to play a less skilled version of the Collingwood gameplan so that will be a good place to start Ideally we need the Cats to lose one more. Having them 1.5 games behind us is a little worrying especially if we drop a game
  5. Watched ANB carefully on the replay. He struck me as one of the few players that took risks with his kicks. Sure some were to one on ones where the other side prevailed and there were a couple of clangers but if those risks aren't taken we go nowhere. It's not as though we are awash with skilled pin point distributors a la Collingwood
  6. A draw would be almost perfect
  7. Agree Assuming Port lose today We'd need to win 6 and they'd need to lose 3 Won't happen Mind you Port also have the game against Adelaide ??
  8. Those first 4 goals from Collingwood off half back and straight through the corridor were terrifying. No team stops those
  9. The win was wonderful but next week is the consolidation test. Need a good no stress regulation 20 point win. No change other than injury. Hopefully it's decent weather
  10. 9 scoring shots to 2 in that last quarter Not bad at all
  11. Agree... on so many grounds We recaptured fast scoring !!
  12. well I suppose the positive is that this is our highest score for several weeks
  13. what's a corridor asks the coach
  14. out coached who'd have thought that a shoot out when you don't have a gun is a good idea
  15. when Gunston gets a goal you kind of know where this game is going
  16. an old fashioned shoot out... wonder who will win
  17. Grundy reaction...........
  18. 50k expected for tonight's friendly between the Matildas and France at Docklands Live TV on 10 Bold
  19. Used to think the same myself until I realised a few years back... they don't really want bigger crowds.... as increased crowds mean extra facilities (toilets etc), more ground security etc. Some grounds like Punt Rd are aggressively anti-crowds with narrow viewing space and blocked off areas. Port and Box Hill are a nice balance with grassed hills and old style grandstands Agree though it is an enjoyable day with a little winter sunshine
  20. Think it's only 3 in season plus the weird finals which gives another bye. This is the system that the AFL clubs wanted... why... I've no idea If you want to involve non AFL sides I favour a conference system including SA and WA. Allow for a few cross conference games if the budget allows. Finals could be cross conference (8 highest teams) or intra conference with the two conference winners playing off. Perhaps GF to be played in Adelaide or Perth where I think the locals and the State Government would pump some money in
  21. Good points if we were performing but at the moment the engine is just turning over. Coach to the present team not the one you dream of is my thoughts. Strangely enough against the Saints I thought we were too conservative. There were 2 occasions where we got 2/3 goals up where a bit of fast play might have put the game to bed far earlier. Saints however especially down 3 key players are not Brisbane
  22. Nah everyone watches the big screen or their phone Binoculars are for Boomers 😉
  23. Stupid me thought we would occasionally use them both as part of the kick out strategy with one either side or similar but we didn't even try that.
