  1. Strikes me that the clubs have lost control of the trade process (did they ever have it). Now it is simply a case of Player X of Club A saying I want to go to Club Y and Club A is forced to deal. The only buffer is how many years left on Player X's contract but even that seems to count for little. Were we to remove the need for player consent what would happen. Draftees have no say in where they go. Sure throw in some relocation costs but there has to be another way
  2. That Casey forward line is looking rather crowded
  3. Was on the ABC this morning. My point is that they may upgrade it free of charge to the Lions to say 20k capacity. The only other option is the Gold Coast
  4. Rumoured that the Lions will re-locate home games to Springfield while they rebuild the Gabba for the Olympic Games. Will be interesting to see how that works. Not sure if it will be one season or two and then of course in the Olympics year I doubt we will see games at the Gabba post June so they can lay the running track
  5. With Buddy gone Grundy could easily be the new poster boy for Sydney. Some good promotional deals in a two team city for the Big G.
  6. Must say I agree. Not like Grundy was a raw draft pick that recruiters had assessed at an under age comp. There was thousands of hours of video showing his strengths and weaknesses not counting industry sources who could have been consulted. If as some have claimed it was overestimating Gawn as a forward it's an equal fail by the brains trust. Fortunately we're out of it with little cost but the final 6 weeks put keystone cops to shame Onwards and hopefully upwards... 2023 was not a great year football wise
  7. If we trade 6 etc for 1 how do WC get Curtain? I thought he was a nominal pick 3
  8. Agree but I doubt we have the currency for pick 1. How do we compare with the Hawks now ?
  9. Just a straight swap between Dogs and us with nominal picks (if required). They're going to be on similar money next contract. Dogs desperate for defence. JUH a little light bodied as a Petty forward replacement but an exceptional prospect. Doesn't address the Petty go home factor but in my imaginary world if clubs could trade players it makes sense
  10. Can someone remind me of the usual number of players taken in a draft. IIRC it's between 50 and 60 but I could be wrong. Pick 44 if so is at the wrong end of the barrel especially when it's around 49 allowing for concessions
  11. Out of interest would you trade Petty for JUH at the Bulldogs? Makes sense for both clubs
  12. Oh great Another year of will he or won't he
  13. Why does an uncontracted 36 year old (surely a free agent) attract a draft pick. $750k... you have to be kidding.. $450 plus incentives taking it to $600k for a 40 goal year
  14. Collingwood managed without a ruckman for around six weeks. They won 5 IIRC Rucks can be covered
  15. It allows us at the very least to frontload a few guys thus allowing some cap space going forward
  16. Confirmed in the Age Fremantle small forward Lachie Schultz has asked for a move to Collingwood. The Docker, who kicked 33 goals this season and 30 goals in 2022, informed the Dockers on Monday that he wants to move to Victoria.
  17. I could see Hawkins doing a Buddy and rarely training. At the right price a one year deal is not that silly. I don't think we'll get anything out of TMac and probably little out of BBB
  18. The problem with Petty as a forward is price. He'll probably command a 30% premium as a forward over what he would be worth down back. Hopefully they lock up a contract extension earlier rather than later
  19. Could go out with a bit of a bang though
  20. Is McAdam another small forward? We're awash with them
  21. Wait a minute I thought this guy was Fritsch like and now..............
  22. Interesting from an Age article today. Five clubs have interviewed him. MFC not one of them. If the Eagles are not convinced Reid will stay, they can trade away pick one for multiple picks, presumably to use on West Australian top-five prospect Daniel Curtin. In a sign of who else might be interested, Reid said the Eagles, North Melbourne, Hawthorn, Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney have all interviewed him. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/the-no-1-question-being-asked-of-this-year-s-top-pick-harley-reid-20231007-p5eah9.html Just noticed he played for Tongala. Was that in our old zone around Shepparton?
  23. Adelaide tackle and mark well Dees completely outplayed that quarter
